  2. Hello John, Great pictures of a one off classic bike. I hate to think of the man hours involved in the building of the bike. Well Done Regards Alan
  3. Hi Keith, Chris is one of the gems on the Broads and Broom's is lucky to have him working there. He looks after a number of syndicate boats moored at Broom's and ours moored on Tingdene. Regards Alan
  4. Hello Fred, It was just a test before posting John a new forum member how to add pictures. The picture is of my mate Chris who has been playing the guitar for the last 48 years (I might add, but not on the front of Ranworth Breeze). Chris came down to the boat with us a few years ago and slept with the guitar. He wrote a song whilst on the boat. Regards Alan
  5. Hi John, All I can say with regards to the commercial craft is wow! The size of that barge with the pin prick sized cars must be anything from 120 to 150 foot long! Regards Alan

  7. Hi Strowager, As you say it has always been an issue as I see it from when we first started on the Broads in 2001. I have talked to a number of people who have had the shop and the boatyard. Most people who have had the shop have been very enthusiastic but as you say the season is short and the winters long, an added complication is that the shop can not be used as a café, my understanding there was a problem with the lease regarding this. During the season there is loads of cars that come down to the staithe to look at the boats moored or just come down to feed the ducks. It is a pity that mooring on the islands there is no access to the staithe other than by tender. Regards Alan
  8. Hello Jim, Some great strides there judging by your pictures. I assume that you have an insert section and cussions to make up a double berth. Curtains can be a pain on a curved or sloping screen, the way you can do it is to have a track at the top and at the bottom with the curtains fixed between them the alternative is to fix at the top and to have a rod that clips in place so the bottoms of the curtains sit behind the rod. For storage you can but a telescopic rod, we do this on our aft cabin curtains and the rods fit into out tiebacks. Regards Alan
  9. Hello Fish Finder, Sorry you did not leave your name on the post. I am sorry to hear of your plight, Womak Staithe is a very busy place and I have had problems finding a place to moor when we have gone there at times. Do you offer any of the mooring places that used to belong to the boat hire company? I also assume that the boat club members move off of the moorings when the overnight mooring fee is collected? The local volunteers that collect the fee have a lot to put with I am sure but have they thought of collecting a lunchtime/afternoon fee, it need not be large but it may help out the situation. Regards Alan
  10. A few years ago we were visiting Wroxham staithe and a BA ranger was turfing out the large number of people on a day boat out of Horning all of the group had six packs clutched to their chests and were asking crews if anyone would take them back to Horning? Needless to say we did not offer. Regards Alan
  11. Hello John, You can tell a lot of love goes into those wooden tenders. The quality reminds me of the boat that is moored at the rivers edge to one of the bungalows in Brundall, the owner also has a boat moored in one of the other properties with the same ropework as the tender. Regards Alan
  12. Hi Mandy, As lori says you will be fine at Reedham Bridge even at high tide there is usually 10ft clearance at the Bridge. If you do not take on water at Reedham there is water at the staithe at Loddon. Regards Alan
  13. I still find that I use my copy of "What to Do on the Norfolk Broads" published by Jarrold (Paperback ISBN 9780711711228), yes it is out of date regarding some of the information. But it is still an asset, it is a pity that it was never revised after 2000. There are currently some available on Ebay & Amazon. Regards Alan
  14. Hello John, I know of the gas ring toasters you mention in your excellent blog, I have never used one but have seen them and I think there was a version for camping stoves. Can you remember the toaster fittings that you could fit to the gas fires of the 60's? Bread & Cheese shops, sounds my sort of place. In the cheese shops do they have a variety of cheese's or is it like walking into a shop in Cornwall and all they is Cheddar, or in Holland is it Edam & Gouda? Mary-Jane looks as if she is having the time of her life over there. Please keep the story coming. Regards Alan
  15. Hi Nick, My Favourite places on the Northern Broads are:- Womak Saithe, Ranworth Staithe, South Walsham Broad, the Green at Horning if you can get in together with The Staithe & Willow (a very good place to eat. Outside the Hotel Wroxham (you can reserve a mooring)and finally on the green at Stokesby if there is no room there is mooring outside of the Ferry Inn who offer good honest pub food. Please let us know how you get on. Enjoy your holiday and be safe at all times. Regards Alan
  16. Hello Mandy, As Alan says Loddon is well worth a visit, four pubs, café, chip shop and a number of other shops. There is a public toilets and bins just up the steps from staithe. The River Chet is narrow in places but with your higher steering position you will be able to see where you can pass other boats, It will take you about an hour to travel up to Loddon once you turn into the Chet. The Ferry at Reedham is a good place to call into, good food and the toilet/showers are left open out of hours for boating crews. The side door next to the phone box is left open so you can get into the toilet lobby. I can watch the ferry going backwards and forwards for hours. You can reserve a mooring directly outside the pub. Brammerton Green or outside the Waters Edge are good moorings and just 30 to 40 minutes past Brundall. Not long now. Regards Alan

  18. Hello Mandy, Try looking for the other stones during your next visit to the Broads next week, I have not seen any of these. Other than John's link I can not find any more information about these stones, such as what do the markings on the stones represent? (and I am not talking about the graffiti on one of them) and why seven? If anyone has any information I would be interested. Mandy ask the boatyard what the air draft is on Platinum Emblem and if it can get under St Olave's bridge. Have a good and safe holiday. Regards Alan
  19. Hello Brian, We are on Ranworth Breeze out of Brundall from the 9th to 17th September. We will look out for you. Regards Alan

  21. Hello Strowager, Thank you for the heads up, it will not replace my earlier maps or publications but may come in handy. I went on Amazon and there was an option from one of their sellers (new copy) for £5.77 all in. Regards Alan

  24. Hello John & Mary-Jane. One of those hire boats looks very similar to yours, other than it having a blue hull. Boswald looks an interesting place and by the looks of it very clean, this is something that comes across in all the pictures you have posted. Regards Alan
