  4. Hello Socrates, I would go for a jointed option or maybe a laminated option. I have not done much in the way of boat building other than small mine ply construction, however I do work with hardwood often. Planks of the width you have are bound to warp and maybe split over time, the window cut outs will not help and could be a weak point in the construction. I would use thinner planks and laminate them to provide extra strength to the construction, this would allow you to use a smaller planner. A lot more work for you but maybe more manageable. Please let us know how you get on. Regards Alan
  5. Hi John, No they are switched off and the yacht stations gates are locked to block public access from the roads and paths. Regards Alan
  6. Hello John, Yes Reedham Quay is what the original OP was talking about. The Norwich and Yarmouth yacht stations are effectively closed for four months, the quay at Reedham has a BA operative that works out of a small shed on the quay, the quay has mooring that also belongs to the pub and at one end is Royalls boat yard, for the quay to be closed is somewhat a nonsense likewise from a personal point of view I think that Yarmouth should be kept open and because of fast running tide through Yarmouth I believe it should be a necessity if only for the safety aspect. Regards Alan

  9. Dear All Urgent Boating News - Reedham Quay Moorings Please note that these moorings revert back to the responsibility of Broadland District Council during the winter season but will open again ready for the summer season in March 2018. The electricity supply to the charging points also had to be turned off due to the frequency of the water over topping at the mooring and constantly tripping out the charging points. Kind Regards Laura Milner Administrative Officer Operations Broads Authority Tel: 01603 756035 Broads Authority, Yare House, 62-64 Thorpe Road. The comment regarding why the electricity is turned off beggars belief however; if any electric posts are fit for purpose they should be designed or located where they are not subject to flooding (flooding of course can be during or out of season as we all well know). Regards Alan
  11. I remember that winter well it took me over 3 hours to get to the Woolly Edge Services from Sheffield on my way to Leeds, I phoned from the service to my boss in Leeds to say I had made an attempt but I would be heading back to Sheffield before it got any worse. Regards Alan
  12. I read it and it took me back to when we used be ISO9001 registered, load of box ticking and way with words that looked good to the inspectors but said nothing of merit. Basically just another job for the boys. Regards Alan

  14. Dear All Urgent Boating News - Flood Warning for Riverside Properties Along the Tidal River Yare A Flood Warning has been issued by the Environment Agency. Flooding is expected for riverside properties along the tidal River Yare including Cantley, Brundall and Reedham. This message has been issued because we are expecting high water levels at Brundall from 14:00 on Friday 8 December 2017 due to the natural tide locking caused by high waters at Great Yarmouth, which is restricting the normal drainage out to sea of the Broads system at low tide. High levels in the Broads may last for a few days until the high tides have passed. The forecast indicates a series of risk tides for today and tomorrow. Levels can take several hours to peak in the Broads in response to incoming tidal waters so please remain vigilant. Areas most at risk are in Reedham, Cantley and Brundall. Roads affected include Ferry Road in Reedham, the A47 and the railway line between Reedham and Brundall. The Environment Agency are closely monitoring the situation. Kind Regards Laura Milner Administrative Officer Operations Broads Authority Tel: 01603 756035 Broads Authority, Yare House, 62-64 Thorpe Road. 15. Hi Robin, Do you have a meter on your electric post? We like many other boats in marinas on the Broads put electric cards into our meters, I estimate that we use around £150 to £160 per year. Regards Alan
  16. What started as bleed valve that could not be opened ended up with the radiator being replaced. I am currently working on our kitchen, new worktops and replacement doors. Yesterday I came home early to sort out the radiator under one of the worktops, I could not get out the bleed valve, tried various sockets, so I located a new radiator vent from my spare plumbing parts. The blank at the other end of the radiator was tight but I managed to loosen it, why is that radiator valves never fully lock off when you need them, a slight gush of water later the new vent was in the radiator. Tan put the heating back on and quickly turned it back off when I discovered a leak, not from the vent but from the bottom of the radiator. We put cloths down while i fashioned a container to catch the leaking water. After moping up I went to Screwfix for a new radiator (free valves on certain radiators). More moping and altered pipework later we had a new radiator in place, no leaks and heating back on. One of my pet hates is that radiators brackets are of a different standard than they used to be both in distance between the brackets and the height this means that you have to remove the old and relocate new brackets (yes they are supplied also the fixings). What started as a few minutes job ended up taking about five hours with the kitchen floor filled with plumbing tackle. Regards Alan
  17. I wore shorts on the boat earlier in the year and on the odd occasion in the garden, far to cold for them at the moment. I even ditched the sandals about two weeks ago for shoes and this week out came the woolly hat and gloves, there is no joy of being cold at this time of year. Regards Alan
  18. Hi Grendel, Which ever brings you out in little white spots across the skin. Regards Alan
  19. Hello Geoffrey sadly I am allergic to Garlic, I am sure many of the forum members will have a go after your video. Regards Alan
  20. Dear All Urgent Boating News - Temporary Removal of Vauxhall Bridge Gauge Board The bridge height gauge board on the downstream approach to Vauxhall Bridge, Great Yarmouth, located near to the yellow turning marker at the confluence of the Rivers Bure and Yare, will be temporarily removed for urgent repairs during afternoon low water on Friday 1 December 2017 and will be replaced during afternoon low water on Sunday 3 December 2017. River users are advised to exercise caution and ensure they refer to the gauge board on their port side, immediately downstream of Vauxhall Bridge. Kind Regards Laura Milner Administrative Officer Operations Broads Authority Tel: 01603 756035 Broads Authority, Yare House, 62-64 Thorpe Road. 22. Two years Sue, That seems an age to sell shares in Moonlight Shadow, I am sure their are a few forum members that would love the opportunity to get involved with a boatshare. Best of luck. Regards Alan
  23. The Broads Authority electric posts are rated at 16 amps for the standard sockets and 32 amps. Your 500 watt oil filled radiator will draw a little over 2 amps and a 1500 watt will draw a little over 6 amps. You will find that most of the boatyards will stock the B.A. cards our marina Tingdene at Brundall stock them, Barnes Brinkcraft usually have them. Of course you can phone up the B.A. and get them to post you some. Regards Alan
  24. Hello Riverbank welcome to the forum. Regards Alan
