  1. Hi Grace a bit early for that you would have the Christmas Police after you for suggesting such a thing. Regards Alan
  2. HI Peter, How true your statement is, I have met and talked to a number of owners that have only been able to get out on their boats as little as two times per year due to their health or their partners. A few have ended up selling their boats in the end or have kept the boat and only used it as place to visit. Regards Alan
  3. Hi John, With lift-outs being anything up to £350 to £400 in some yards, some moorings do offer free winter lift outs but it can be a bit of a lottery when you can get back into the water. We have Ranworth Breeze's engine services as part of the winter service to try and pre-empt issues during the forth coming year, this is the time to get the stern gland repacked, check all the running gear and the gel coat before having it anti fouled. Also the time to have the batteries drop tested and replaced if faulty. Have the toilet pumps checked, it is cheaper to replace a pump yourself than have to have a call out during the season. To give you an idea our minimum costs for for operating Ranworth Breeze are between £10,000 to £12,000, we do operate for 40 plus weeks in our extended season. Many other boat owners will have cheaper moorings, not service the boat often or do as much work as they can, we do as much work on our boat as we can, but it needs to be out each week. Regards Alan
  4. Both of the above part of the standard bank security questions, these were OK for a society of 30 or 40 years ago but should not be still in use in today's dog eat dog society. Recently locally after a number of burglaries a burglar targeted the wrong house of a local Sheffield hard-man, who promptly said on facebook he knew who it was and would be taking action! Maybe it has its uses? Regards Alan
  5. The issue with facebook is that some people seem to run their lives on the site, giving too much personal information, I know you can block information and the friends that you have etc. I use and monitor our facebook group with some of the other moderators, I also have to use it to promote our business on various worldwide groups. My advice is keep your personal information to a minimum, no date of birth, where you live pictures of your family, cars etc and be picky regarding contacts. Regards Alan
  6. MM (John) is our vegoil king, hopefully he will make a comment. Regards Alan
  7. I have never been a lover of gravy, but I have to make it for visitors. I mix the gravy in the bowl that I mixed the batter for the Yorkshire pudding, the residue thickens up the gravy, if my eldest visits then I make it with onions or onion salt (onion salt for quickness) Oxo cubs are OK but watch out for some of other stock products which have an high salt content which over seasons the gravy. Regards Alan
  8. Another update from Laura Milner,. Dear All Urgent Boating News - A flood warning issued by the Environment Agency is no longer in force for riverside properties along the tidal River Yare including Cantley, Brundall and Reedham. The situation is improving and no further flooding is expected in this area. Flood Warnings and Alerts may still be in force for surrounding areas. River levels are now steadily falling, but still remain quite high in some locations. The forecast is for no current flood risk from high tides. The Environment Agency will continue to monitor levels closely. A flood alert remains in place for the tidal River Yare from Thorpe St. Andrew to Breydon Water. 9. Hello oldgregg, I have had this update from Laura Milner this morning. Dear All Urgent Boating News - Flood Warning for Riverside Properties Along the Tidal River Yare A flood warning has been issued by the Environment Agency for riverside properties along the tidal River Yare including Cantley, Brundall and Reedham. This message has been issued because of high freshwater river flows being restricted from draining out to sea as usual due to high tidal waters moving up the rivers at the same time. High levels in the Broads may last for a few days until the high tides have passed and recent rainfall has made its way through the system. The forecast indicates a series of risk tides for the next few days. High water is due at Brundall between 12:30pm and 2:30pm on Thursday 4 January. Areas most at risk are in Reedham, Cantley and Brundall. Roads affected include Ferry Road in Reedham, the A47 and the railway line between Reedham and Brundall. The Environment Agency are closely monitoring the situation. Kind Regards Laura Milner Administrative Officer Operations Broads Authority Tel: 01603 756035 Broads Authority, Yare House, 62-64 Thorpe Road. Norwich NR1 1RY 01603 610734

  11. Hello John, Welcome to the forum, please ask away, there are no stupid questions, beware of some of the answers however. This time of year is a good time to be checking out boats, there should be deals around. You need to decide on a style of boat and then start checking out the dealers. It might be an idea to go one some of the emailing lists, NYA email me on their boats available, but there are a number of other lists. Check out the boats on your wish list both on the Broads and elsewhere in the country, do not buy anything without a full survey. Regards Alan

  25. Hello Peter, I fully agree with you. We are of an age where we all know the words used, we may have used them at work or the odd occasion when using an hammer. We however would not have done so in front of women or children, that is the difference these days anything goes, it is so sad that we hear children swearing in the street on their way to school or parents doing the same to their children. Regards Alan
