  1. As far as "Scunthorpe" goes, it makes it far worse when the filter does its job! And Yes! we can all make jokes about the Cock Inn as well as Uranus and all the other schoolboy double meanings but I have to ask, in this day and age, do we really need to be so straight laced? I am well aware that there are some words that are totally unacceptable on a public forum, others which are, shall we say, questionable, but these days many in common usage that are now thought so soft as to be acceptable at a church hall meeting of the parish spinsters. I hear the argument that children may read the forums, well firstly I doubt that any who do are not already fully familiar with the terms but second I would doubt that this forum for example has anything of a young readership, there's too little to interest them! We are each responsible for our own actions. If we breach the unwritten acceptable level, a pm mentioning this should suffice, an automated net-nanny is unnecessary.
  2. Ranworthbreeze said... " I guess you were not allowed up onto the Ranworth Church roof if repairs were being carried out." I take it the stained glass window was on it's side because they'd put the whole church down like that to do the repairs. Much cheaper than scaffolding these days. Nice tale G&W
  3. Yes, I too find it pretty irritating! We can't talk about Tits be they blue, coal or marsh. As you say, I can't offer anyone a fag, though that's more because I don't smoke. I don't know if I can mention that chicken breasts are one of the dryer meats from the bird, nor will I know until I post this. I am well aware that there are some genteel folk from the Royal Navy who are members of this forum and that their blushes must be spared, but can we not be trusted not to write profanities? I just had a mental conversation go through my head (Well, where else would a mental conversation go?) Child.. . "Mummy, What does 'Dilligaf' mean? Child again, on hearing the reply.. ."No mummy it doesn't, but I just wondered if you knew what it meant!"
  4. Sounds good for home, but a cold day on a boat? I worry about the condensation from 90 mins of simmering saucepan.
  5. Fair enough, it was just a thought!
  6. Just a small question... Are we sure that it was the BA who put the collection box there and not the parish council?
  7. Have a good time matey, wish I could join you.
  8. First time I've read it, wonderful story wonderfully written. Thanks for bumping it Jill. Is RTCB still about on this forum?
  9. I can see..., The thong has ended but the malady lingers on
  10. Hurumph!!! (Putting on my best Victor Meldrew voice) I DON'T BELIEVE IT !!! The BA are asking for VOLUNTARY contributions. To whom do they put this request? EVERYBODY WHO USES THE FACILITY. Now, for those of you who might be unclear about what is meant by "Everybody", it includes those who sit on the bench eating their Roy's Macdonalds. those who feed the birds, those who fish, those who watch the three previous groups, those who loiter outside the toilets and the boaters. Dare I say that the boaters might even be the smallest of those groups. (ok, I kinda hope it's the toilet loiterers who make up the smallest group but, hey, what ever lights their candle) Of those groups only one thus far is actually paying already. and as has already been said... it's a voluntary contribution.
  11. Can you run this "talking" thing past me again, Not sure I've really grasped the concept. It sounds like some sort of off-line video/audio pro-interactive analogue tweet to me!
  12. I know I'm going to regret asking this but... What am I looking for?
  13. A week on and another good result. Hamilton should be feeling pretty good right now.
  14. I'm with you Fin, I see no problem if folk wish to contribute a tad moor
  15. He's a sailie, they all do that!
  16. Oh yes, you can't beat a quick squirt of the magic fluid.
  17. Awww come on fellas, we mustn't let facts get in the way of a good moan!
  18. Learning the art of handling a boat is a major part of the fun of a broads holiday. The best advice I have to offer is... " Whatever you are trying to do, do it slowly!" There are several reasons for this, but here's two for starters. The most obvious is that if it all goes pearshaped, you will do little or no damage to your, or anybody else's boat. Second reason is less obvious, but more satisfying. You watch an expert... a real expert. They will send a boat jumping through hoops while they sit at the helm looking almost like they're thinking about some TV program they watched last week. No fuss, no bother and usually with the engine at something close to tickover. Honestly, sometimes it's sickening!!! We all watch thinking "I wish I could do that... you smug b******." So do it all slowly, you do no harm and when it does go right, it looks REALLY impressive.
  19. I don't like daffodils it's their narcissistic tendencies that get to me. I wanted to buy a money spider once, or rather I wanted to trade in my tarrantula for one. The shopkeeper complained when I said I hadn't got anything smaller.
  20. All roads to Norfolk are wonderful, those leading away, less so! Motors running on moorings? Well if not tooo early in the morning or late at night, I don't have a problem with it. Any time after eight is fine with me, or before eight in the evening. I agree though, not on crowded stern on moorings. Hot air central heating. The colder the weather the more understandable it is to run it. It can be pretty miserable if you are cold..... even on our beloved broads. A little more tolerance is perhaps called for on that one! TV on a boat.; Essential! My liver wouldn't survive my broadland breaks if I didn't have a TV on the boat to help keep me out of the pubs in the evening. The general intolerance of modern society... Intolerance should not be put up with under any circumstances and should be wiped off the face of the Earth. Intolerant people need to be taken out and horse whipped on a daily basis. Intolerance is something up with which I will not put, in fact I just won't toler....Oh... Whoops.
  21. Lit Lorca Orclet Killer Guppy Amnity Brody Fin Finny (might have to be careful with that one! ) Just a few!
  22. Thanks for the clarification Marshman, and I think I agree with you in that there is almost certainly a collection of causes and possibly an "Any three from eight" situation. It does seem that "sediment disturbance" is a major player though, but having said that, there are so many different things that can make such disturbances it is hardly worth even 'going there'.
  23. Hi Ray, You and I started more or less the same time. I can never remember if our first time was 66 or 65. Welcome to Nutters nook!
  24. Interesting and fair points Marshman though may I ask you what you mean by "especial problem" regarding Martham broad? My experience of trout fishing reservoirs is such that I notice debris including the occasional dead fish, collects in certain areas. Most of the dead fish I saw in this outbreak were in the boat dyke close to Whispering Reeds yard. Is that where the algae bloomed or just where the dead and dying fish drifted too? Could the above be relevant when discussing the lack of same in Catfield dyke on this occasion? As I understand it, Martham broad is not only very shallow but also pretty weed bound too. Could those water plants not only hold the sediment in place but also calm 'wind disturbed' water. Your post suggests that you either know the answers to the points you raise or at least you have some deep seated theories. I would be most interested to read them.
  25. Whether its the water level rising or the bridge sinking, that overall problem remains the same and should be the subject matter of a different thread. It's only relevance to the algae is if it has reduced the flow of water through it. If so, is that part of the problem and again if so, how best to regain that flow. Would a full dredge from Breydon to the Pleasure boat do what's necessary to improve the flush and thus to preserve the nature, the fish and the navigation for all ? If the answer to this is "yes" then tolls alone will not cover it. We would need some serious lottery heritage money as well as a drop of government dosh.
