  1. I'm not clever enough to do what Strow does with Google earth and highlighting bits and I don't know if this helps but... If on Google Earth you go to 52° 31' 35.55" N, 1° 37' 43.41" E, Altitude 2100 ft, That puts you on a moored cruiser. I think that's where the wherry is moored in the photo. There is a drainage ditch clearly visible. less clear is what looks to me like a service dyke just a few metres to the north. (it has a small craft moored in it) The markings on the land next to that dyke look very much man made and could be where the "sheds" are in the photo of the wherry. The curve of the river fits too. I initially guessed that the photo was taken from down stream, but now you've turned the pic round it shows the other side!
  2. Yep MM I too see them swimming from time to time on our local river (The Stort) and yes, it is a rather strange sight. Like rats, squirrels are very intelligent. You will, for example, never see a squirrel using petrol to light a barbeque. Where I live, the house looks out onto a mix of woodland and meadow, and it's usual to see them in the garden. They have, however, made no attempt to gain access to our loft space, leaving me wondering why they go into other peoples.
  3. Meanwhile, regarding the original subject of the available view from the helm of a "bathtub", I am assuming that the vessel in question has the traditional configuration with the helm on the port side. As you are well aware the main areas of visibility are the side, if you stick your head out of the window, or the top if you stand up high looking over the sliding roof. This can best be described by remembering that if you are in a bathtub the main view is Top And Port Side. I am so sorry about that!
  4. Sorry for being thick, but what is a bridge camera? (Oh and I'm so tempted to ask if I can buy one at Lathams)
  5. Trust me Mark (psychicsurveyor), Jason is here. He posts rarely but he is here. It is my suspicion (and just suspicion) that after being very shabbily treated elsewhere, it will be a long time before he gets so deeply involved in any computer forums again, if ever. I'm sure that Griff will PM you more information if you ask him. This is a very friendly forum and because of that I shall say no more on the subject. There is no nastiness here, and I have found that when two members cannot agree, they quickly agree to differ. Bickering with another member is frowned upon. When it occasionally occurs, a quick word from another source soon stops it.
  6. I lost "Sox" last September, and vowed to stay poochless for at least a year (I had reckoned the start of 2015 at the earliest) but those little sweethearts are really tugging at the strings. My bet is that there's already a waiting list for them anyway. Well that's what I keep telling myself!
  7. Those are some cute puppies... boy am I tempted or what!
  8. Do you have other TVs Grendel you phrase your post as if you do. If so how are the others behaving?
  9. Sorry but I've just got to ask... When will Tim be painting RT pink?
  10. Hiya Grendel, nice to see you here
  11. It has long been an irritation to me that where I live, the digital signal comes from London, and all the news is from south of me. When I watch the news on the boat, I get Anglia TV, which even covers the area where I live. My question to all TV geeks is this... Is there any way I can get Anglia TV on my freeview telly at home? Cable TV is not an option because no-one will lay a cable to our house as it is awkwardly positioned.
  12. After all the hassle you've endured over this last summer you are well overdue to have a great worry free experience. I know you will enjoy every minute of it and all I can add is, good luck with the weather.
  13. Strow, whilst I take your point should you need to lower the WHOLE boat, but normally it's just one end that needs lowering, so it's the trim that needs adjusting. that would take far less weight.
  14. As this extra ballast would be needed only occasionally, and for short periods of time, couldn't flexible tanks be installed, taking little space when not in use and stowed in those "awkward" storage places most of the time?
  15. Thanks Jonzo, PCMCIA, that was it. I'm terrible with names but I never forget an interface. Thanks Robin, You just answered my next question re credit expiring. I think I go to the boat often enough to think about a contract.
  16. It's good to like a wide range of music, makes for interesting listening. I put my music onto CDs in alphabetical order (by song title) so it plays in a weird fashion. I get Bach's Toccata next to the Bee Gee's "Tragedy", and Saint Saens "Danse Macabre" next to the Monkees "Daydream believer". Sorry I didn't get to you when you were up, I'd lent Nyx to my niece and her husband so wasn't there long!
  17. Aahhh Grasshopper, did I not fully train you in "Zen and the art of coffee making" ???????????
  18. " I used Three, and it is a bad day if I have 3G - usually I have the faster HSPDA speeds " Sorry Robin, you lost me a bit there, but thanks, I followed the rest of it. I have a Belkin thingy to pick up wifi which I plug into the side of my IBM T23. instead of USB, it uses a thin wide connection, I forget the name. Is that ok? or too slow/old? I am after e-mail and the forum for the most part plus IMDB, Amazon, e-Bay and You-tube. That's about it really (Youtube usage is very small on the boat, just where forum posts give links) so disregarding YouTube, what level of data usage am I consuming? Ie, the £15 credit on the sim would last me how long continuous use? very roughly... really very roughly indeed?
  19. Once again, on Wednesday, Nyx received a pump out from Fish Finder, again very thorough. He really knows his business..., and mine!
  20. When mum dad and I were on a boat, mum did most of the helmwork, dad and I did the ropes. This was mainly that of the three of us, mum was the best at the wheel.
  21. A very fine pump out service it is too, very thorough. see you again soon. I shall eat some extra large portions if only to keep you in business.
