  9. It works fine on mine as it is an inboard engine beneath the mid cabin bed so doesn't have a lot of heat loss. When I had a Calypso with a rear engine, under a hatch on the rear well I used an old quilt to tent over the engine with a 2' heater under it, in a metal cage to avoid fire from contact. Again on a plug in thermastat.
  10. If you kept the receipt you could change to a 1 foot and a 3 foot plus a couple of plug in thermastats.
  11. I would think three 4' heaters is a bit overkill. I use a 1' one in the engine bay with the cover shut as it is in the mid cabin. It doesn't take a lot to keep the temperature up above freezing. I use a plug in thermastat set 5 degrees. Bear in mind heat rises so won't do much for the engine bay if it is left open. The cabin heater is set to 6 degrees and the doors are left open. You are only aiming to raise the temperature just above freezing, anything else will eat up very expensive electricity. My boat is ex hire and had a second stop start engine switch in the engine bay, might be worth checking for one.
  12. I can't remember what make it is but it is about 10 years old now. From memory it is 15 litre They cost about £200 now. The important point is to make sure that they reset if the power / timer goes off.
  13. I have always run a small tube heater in the engine compartment and a heater in the centre cabin, with plugin thermostats, set at 4 degrees. A dehumidifier in the galley on a timer, 10am to 4pm and the curtains open slightly on the sunny side. All windows closed. Water tank is drained and taps open. I have a tee with a valve set at the lowest accessible area of pipework to drain the pipework. Last year it cost me about £75 in electricity over winter. The big advantage is the boat is never cold and damp when we turn up to use it over winter and takes little effort to redo when we leave.
  14. Vaughan, sorry, I should have made my point clearer. I was only referring to moorings rather than access. I doubt that I would be welcome on either clubs moorings without being a member.
  15. Isn't this similar to Blake's purchase of the lease at Ranworth, not sure that has fulfilled its original intention. The non tidal area of the river Medway has a couple of plots of land owned by cruising clubs, paid for by members, cared for by volunteers. Moored on only by members. If the suggested plan happened on the Broads, would anybody be allowed to use them, in which case why would anyone make an annual subscription. If it was limited to subscribers what is the point of doing it.
  16. My Topliner doesn't have a weed filter internally, it has a grill over the inlet externally.
  17. The market seems to be flooded with smaller boats, Norman's, Vikings etc. The prices of these older boats has dropped because of this. Hampton safaris are holding up for a good example but anything needing work is hanging around. The tag of, needs some TLC, appears to put buyers off. Anything above 28' feet, in good condition looks like it will sell, perhaps slower than in the past. The price range £20k to £50k looks to be holding up at present. Budget boaters will be hardest hit by the squeeze on disposable income, hence the number of boats coming on the market in that range. There are also a lot of sports cuddy boats about, day use is becoming too expensive to justify. I think bigger, luxury boats will be next to feel the squeeze. The key to selling at the moment is to price it well and be in very good condition otherwise it will sit there for a long time. I have seen Calypso's priced from 15k to 35k, in various conditions, but that is a big price range for some internal upgrades. Priced right, everything sells. The problem is nobody wants to lose money on selling but are happy to make money in better times. "The value of your Investments can go down as well as up and is not guaranteed at any time.
