A Spring Tale

Have a lovely day. We noticed how amazing Breydon Water looked this morning as we drove over the bridge. What a great day it would have been to make the crossing. That’s still on my to do list!

Ironically a sea fog rolled in for a while on the coast but it’s sunshine with hazy cloud now.

At The Bell Inn no less. Is that apple juice, or Euro Fizz in the wrong glass?

Well, whilst I was slaving away with boat electrics and vents my Grace decided to let me know that back home she was in Wetherspoons with the girls

Now I'm a modern man, but if she has put down the hoover, iron and stepped out of the kitchen....(oh God her cooking 🤢) to go meet the girls then sod this working, I'm heading over to the pub for a cider in the sunshine. Or two. Maybe three, but I order in 2's so 4 :default_norty:

So as I sit in the gladden of the Bell I realised I didn't write up my enthralling tales from yesterday....warning, there may be a plethora of mundane pictures :default_biggrin:

Friday 28th May  (Part 1)

I had gained the opportunity to finish work a few hours early due to overtime owed to me, and so after a busy night shift I showered up and left station at around 0530 to head off to Norfolk

The early start did nothing to help my journey be more traffic friendly, stuck behind lorry after lorry as I cruised along the A roads sticking to the 60mph limit, in no rush to get to the boat

I reached the mooring by around 0940 after stopping off for supplies (booze), diesel for the car, and to fill the petrol cans with...well...petrol, and once I'd moved everything from car to boat (I travel light) I dropped the canopy and fired the old girl up.

She started first time and the throaty noise from the exhaust was music to my ears as I released my lines in the sunshine and slowly cruised through the marina and out onto the more open waters

20210528_110147.thumb.jpg.2b14d30c2446e33eec5b434d1dbf87b2.jpg

It was a little after 11 when I approached Reedham village, pubs open and moorings available, but having just set off I continued on

20210528_113822.thumb.jpg.d06084f38257857bf92643e021f75cd3.jpg

Cantley was in view in the distance after the Reedham Chain Ferry so I knew there was only mere hours before I would be passing the factory :default_biggrin:

20210528_114504.thumb.jpg.01603ff55cff41c3eca997fb27c735e8.jpg

But I continued my cruise and low and behold I was soon nearing the Reedcutter Pub

20210528_120059.thumb.jpg.d16356370e996fef08ed823eabc74f93.jpg

The BA were taking up a bunch of moorings with what looked like an information stand set up, it made me pour another beer and put me off stopping at Cantley, so I carried on up the Yare

People under 60 would probably miss the joke if I mentioned the Bear in the big blue house, so no point mentioning it on this forum :default_biggrin:

20210528_123535.thumb.jpg.28a3abbeeba96b29a40d3a563da70dd9.jpg

The wildlife was enjoying the gorgeous weather as much as I was

20210528_124219.thumb.jpg.8bf2c84d956d7545bd767809a26dce6f.jpg

And the usual sights of higher up the Yare having spent so long moored at Brundall soon came into view

20210528_124759.thumb.jpg.bbeaaab8f205feb2934e23680b0521df.jpg

And by 1310 I was moored up on the stern moorings at Coldham Hall

20210529_151457.thumb.jpg.c02bd2c90e458e533e5a3ee62fd5088c.jpg

And so it was time to enjoy a pint whilst keeping an eye on my boat

20210529_151652.thumb.jpg.8cbc8a3b1b80be410981e9b67a0568f9.jpg

It was fairly busy, despite it not looking so

20210529_151904.thumb.jpg.17e43afb5ee7e03edeab9e30814d30c9.jpg

And lovers corner was free, unfortunately I am all alone this weekend and so I left it free for some other loving couple this time

Friday 28th (Part 2)

Apologies, I had to sort the pics out from the first part

So by 1410 I was finished with my beer or two and set off back to the boat, a number of others had arrived whilst I sat soaking up the rays but not too many really. Some WAFI's were also using the river

20210528_141239.thumb.jpg.c055c40451a29b0d3d5fd8bc70d5e5db.jpg

It wasn't long before I'd untethered the boat and continued the way I had been travelling originally. No surprises for guessing that I had no destination in mind, just as always to cruise along and enjoy my boat, the rivers and my thoughts in beautiful sunshine

20210528_142853.thumb.jpg.fddef8286737c926f4a92c1083b4af69.jpg

I was heading out of Brundall by 1440

20210528_143824.thumb.jpg.e746bd4ba42f5aa122e0afbda187f0ab.jpg

And the Yare continued...

20210528_145346.thumb.jpg.f52be4afcbb6a362ddeafc75fa6e89c2.jpg

20210528_145352.thumb.jpg.16db93e5ba6b87af070b7c0e02b9d778.jpg

20210528_145505.thumb.jpg.6f123774598991d0d5973a0a0ce70799.jpg

I think the Swan wanted to show this fellow how moving on the water was done

20210528_145906.thumb.jpg.e7005467515e611e90006fbb603a417d.jpg

A few nosey passers by, but we parted on good terms

20210528_150020.thumb.jpg.ed90909a36bdf634c5a999f162b90af2.jpg

And then Bramerton beckoned....

20210528_150040.thumb.jpg.8d8cc0fcd29a7aa5d2abe1ece39b0dd9.jpg

....would there be room? Would the usual occupants have managed to move their expensive craft about  200 metres up the river to take every available space instead of actually going out and enjoying their boats over the entire Broads system?????

20210528_150501.thumb.jpg.341abc582f88019d8996a4b15b38d3a8.jpg

I wasn't stopping regardless of who was there, far too early, far too many river miles still available in the gorgeous Norfolk sunshine, far too many beers left in the fridge

20210528_151716.thumb.jpg.ed1d7197e67c4c16ca55e39eaeeb3efa.jpg

Passing Postwick....look at those suckers working hard :default_winko:

20210528_152346.thumb.jpg.846ca9a821d3b02b4668455a27e69075.jpg

And continue I did

20210528_153227.thumb.jpg.f24d78965737d8b71d2c16a74f104b5c.jpg

I actually could have got in at Commissioner's Cut, but it was still early and I was having fsr too much fun, so thought about stopping at Whittlingham. Love it there

20210528_153720.thumb.jpg.16b727fbc9c740d22b6d2fa92f920506.jpg

Oh my God, it's spitting, it's actually raining.....about turn then, I'm not having that...

20210528_154134.thumb.jpg.a0f24ae2edaadb6ed99ab247ff5cc77d.jpg

20210528_154649.thumb.jpg.07b3cea8f2fb9062c257ddef6a465d15.jpg

So I did...

20210528_160809.thumb.jpg.7abc33140272371ef8ceaf19b410dcb7.jpg

20210528_161323.thumb.jpg.1d35bbfd86485e927c0181f2b04e2fe3.jpg

Ooh, hello again workers :default_winko:

20210528_161823.thumb.jpg.6fb72b1834880b20736c08e8626c16b1.jpg

And so I made the return journey where I'd come from

Water's Edge was busy...I'm not sure why my photo's always look contradictory, it really was

20210528_163521.thumb.jpg.25d2b8fc135b53b59176eb71f4d7e01d.jpg

Bramerton was filled up completely by now (1637)

20210528_163709.thumb.jpg.6b4202f38de3cf9a63229430b12cdee3.jpg

And the return journey continued.

20210528_164437.thumb.jpg.abb1b048d04594d73acd39dcc241f915.jpg

20210528_164447.thumb.jpg.64b1dceb351a5c0ca562eba795327930.jpg

Unsurprisingly the Ferry House was doing good trade by the looks, some lady waved and shouted over to me but I couldn't hear what she was saying....apologies if it was anyone on here

Saving you the while return trip...I went down through Bargate

20210528_170630.thumb.jpg.f64e9fb5a73dc2aafd5dbcb0f2c9df39.jpg

Where a number of people had mudweighted

20210528_170959.thumb.jpg.0c4612e84b1ad758b00ded333d4ac059.jpg

Before heading back onto the Yare

20210528_171126.thumb.jpg.c4ee7015afbf9e9bed0a4b6762b58425.jpg

And past Cantley

20210528_180541.thumb.jpg.4b4625755afa33d386b80e692b859e59.jpg

20210528_184707.thumb.jpg.350d98d54311fbcc754ef173c5168ba6.jpg

20210528_184712.thumb.jpg.3a30b0aa7babf3f001d0b5b7048039aa.jpg

And finally, as I reached a deserted Polkeys Mill, I knew it was time for my exhausted self to say enough is enough, and let myself finally head off to bed after nights feeling happy and content on the boat I love, in the place I love.....

Random pic alert :default_biggrin:

Well the sun came out therefore so did the mighty Triumph for a ride over to Norfolk to "check on the boat"

Feels like this place is my second home now :default_biggrin:

The river's seem busy but I caught a quiet moment

As I watch the comings and goings under the bridge

I succumbed to temptation last week to venture out on the BM for a bimble up to the boat to do a spot of polishing.  The weather looks quite promising for tomorrow, so I could be forced to repeat the journey again!!  Tough, this retirement lark!!
