Guest
Thursday 2nd August Part 1 Loads of pics today so I will try not to ramble on. Waking to a beautiful morning once more I got up and after the usual morning jobs, moved round from Beccles South Bank to the Yacht Station to fill up with water at about 0930. Once filled up, I proceeded through Beccles Old Bridge which had over 8 foot clearance and headed towards Geldeston. I had no intention of stopping there this morning but wanted to enjoy the scenic journey. Apart from one boat the Lido moorings were empty Apart from one boat fishing I saw no one until the "junction" where a father and son were slowly rowing along. Carefully passing them I proceeded towards the locks. Tempting as it was to moor up and stay, I turned around and headed back to Beccles to begin the journey back up the Waveney. More to follow... Vaughan
An excellent "pint of twos" is still to be found (home brewed) in the Coach and Horses on Rosary Corner, just up the hill from Norwich Yacht Station. Chalk Hill Brewery. And it's down hill all the way to the yacht station afterwards!
Guest
Thursday 2nd August Part 2 Returning by 1130 to where I started earlier that morning at Beccles I headed up the River Waveney, destination unknown It was fairly busy along the lower reaches of the Waveney but quietened down as I approached the Waveney Centre. Doesn't time fly when you are having fun. I hadn't noticed it was 1230, I wasn't interested in any dinner, it was ruddy well past beer o'clock, so I opened a bottle of Ghost Ship. I suppose I am allowed to put a picture of that up seeing as it isn't a manly premium lager So beer, sunshine, the company of my beautiful Grace water and a boat, what more could you want? The dog was in need of a rest stop, Somerleyton was full so I carried on, reaching Herringfleet moorings an old guy on his own was struggling to keep hold of his boat as it tried to drift away, he was holding onto his line and seemed in some distress. I know I could have taken photos or a video, but i preferred the more traditional way of quickly mooring up at one of the available moorings and ran over to offer him some assistance. A few moments later his boat was safely secured to the mooring and all was good again. Isn't this friendly compassion part of why we love the broads? Everyone helping each other? A brief chat and his offer of thanks, and I was soon on my way again, oh yes I had a couple more beers too More to follow...
Guest
Thursday 2nd August Part 3 The final part saw me leaving Herringfleet and heading along the New Cut once more. It was pretty busy along it's entire length which seemed to help pass the time much quicker. Reedham was full as I passed through so I continued on, Hardley Cross was also quite popular. As I approached the Reedham Chain Ferry I saw a number of moorings free. Well what can you do? So I stopped off, rhond anchors in use, and had a cheeky beer in the sunshine whilst watching the ferry and boats pass by. Once I set off again I continued up the River Yare And finally decided to stop at Cantley. The quiet moorings and beautiful evening sunshine made for a pleasant overnight spot, so at approx 1830 I moored up, gave the dog a quick walk and sat in the beer garden of the Reedcutter for a few more beers. I had a pleasant talk on the way back to the boat with a group of hirers on a Barnes boat. It was their first time on the broads and they had just come down to the south side today. They asked about lines, tides, the pub and directions for tomorrow and seemed to be having a great time on their holiday. Afterwards I sat on the boat with a few glasses of wine as we played more games again to occupy the kids. Once we had eaten our tea, cooked as always by my youngest, we sat and had a chat before we each headed off for bed.
