Guest
Thursday 1st November Despite what LL tells you, believe me there was no sign of life on board evening shadow when I arose at 0515 and took the dog for her morning essentials The rain that was falling was an indication of what the day had in store, but I wouldn't let it dampen my enthusiasm for the long journey ahead. Once the dog was sorted she jumped back onto her half of the bed and returned to sleep (loyal man's best friend indeed ) whilst I set about removing lines from the mooring and set off at 0550. I did try to get a few shots of the river at 0550 whilst the rain fell but....... I guess my phone was still half asleep too. It was then a long cruise back along the Bure, even as daylight appeared there were very few boats around the rivers. Horning Staithe was full but the Swan Inn was empty and spaces were available at the New Inn too. As I continued on the rain that had been a fine soaking drizzle increased somewhat, the kids deciding to appear as I began to approach the Thurne mouth. Coffee was made for me by the youngest and also advised that maybe my head should get in out of the rain and close the helm roof so they could warm up. Acle was fairly empty although the Bridge inn moorings were full, people making use of their free mooring offer. And then it was the long passage along the lower Bure in the increasing rain where we saw 3 otters "playing" together (missed them with the camera) as we moved onwards to Yarmouth and over Breydon. By the time I'd reached St Olaves (moorings empty too) the sun made an appearance. There was a lady moored up on her boat here waving at me enthusiastically as if she recognised me, I returned a wave but I have no idea who it was so apologies if she is from the NBN. It didn't last long however and by the time I reached our destination (chosen by the kids) of Oulton Broad it was raining once more. All moored up at the Yacht Station, it had taken about 8 hours non stop from Wroxham and it was time to have a walk with the dog before she exploded, before a shower and a night out around Oulton Broad. SwanR
Morning Jay! What a contrast in photos from yesterday to the blue skies earlier in the week. A night out around Oulton Broad? Is there anywhere you recommend? I am also wondering whether there are any firework displays there this weekend, although I'm not in the area until Sunday! Have a lovely day ... hope the sun is shining up there this morning. A little frosty here for my commute to work soon!

Good Morning Mrs SwanR, with all these early conversations we keep having, people will begin to talk It certainly was in contrast, we have had 2 days of rain this week but it's a beautiful morning here in Oulton now and 3°C, the forecast is good for the weekend and beyond now I believe but I don't pay too much attention anyway. Broadlands Care Home have a fireworks event on Monday 5th November. Not sure if you are interested but they have a Facebook page with details, here's a screenshot in case you are interested but don't have Facebook Have a great day at work, stay safe Mrs SwanR

Guest
Friday 2nd November Waking to a beautiful morning on Oulton Broad, the grey dark clouds and rain having moved away I had a completely lazy morning. After the long cruise the day before in the less pleasant weather it was enjoyable to just sit and relax, even able to lower the roof and enjoy the sunshine, despite a somewhat cool nip to the air. Coffee was drunk, and as the dog finally raised herself from her side of the bed it was time to take a stroll around the park and look over the broad at the sun glinting off the water. It was actually 1330 by the time I removed our mooring lines and sett off back across the broad, leaving the Yacht Station behind and heading back to the River Waveney once more. The cruise along the Waveney, and then the New Cut was so much more enjoyable today due to the change in weather, despite fighting the tide and slowly chugging along. Once I reached the end of the Cut, I made a left turn and passed through a quiet Reedham, Ranworth Breeze pretty much the only boat at the moorings, but it wasn't our Alan (Or at least I don't believe) on board. The occupants were all enjoying each other's company talking and enjoying a drink and so as I passed by they were unaware of my presence. After the chain ferry I made a left turn to head down the beautiful River Chet and towards Loddon. The hours trundle (there or thereabouts) down the river was absolutely gorgeous in the setting evenings sun, and it was very dark by the time I arrived at the Staithe at the end of the river. Once moored up, it was time to walk the dog once again through the village before enjoying a few beers in the pubs and then back to the boat for a good sleep.
