Ok, so a very slow night for the fleet. Flying Fish has passed Start Point. Winds are light and contrary but HW was half an hour ago so there will be favourable tide now for a few hours.

By contrast, the super trimarans have rounded the Fastnet Rock and are heading back.

Did they collect £200? If they passed Herbert Woods two and a half hours ago they should be just passing Wroxham Broad?

Looks as though they will have a long reach out to the Rock - it a tad breezy out that way and that will involve a lot of windward rail sitting for the crew aided and abetted by lots and lots of damp and wet sugary snacks!! Probably!!!!

None so far ST they are only doing 8kn or less, with the fleet really squashed up at this point. It has been light airs for about 18 hours.

It was a monastery of course, but one of them (French or English) was also a prison later, I think. I have been to both and cannot recall which

They are past Lands End but getting beyond the Scillies separation scheme in the continuing contrary winds will be time-consuming. Zig zag stuff!

Nope, they are about 1/3 of the way between the Scillies and the Rock, doing 8knots

I am in 3900th position in the Virtual Regatta Fastnet,  (which is better than you might think) and expect to get round the Rock mid afternoon. We got much better wind than the real sailors.

They passed the Fastnet Rock at about 3am and are now well on the way back across the Celtic Sea.

The Rolex site says it is a bumpy ride, so I hope they aren't feeling seasick at all.
