Guest
I hope you don't mind my self indulgence by posting a few photos, but I am going a little stir crazy trapped in isolation here in Cumbria and having done all the jobs around the house that SWIMBO has demanded of me (for now anyway!) my thoughts turned naturally to the water, having bought our dream boat two days before lockdown and not knowing when we will get on her again I started looking through some old photos of when we used to trailer our Norman 23 to the broads, the first time was in 2013 and the last being 2018. She was in a sorry state when bought as a restoration job but I really enjoyed all the work(and money not!) that went into the project. We moored on the Lancaster canal at Garstang - a hidden gem with almost 40 odd miles of beautiful lock free cruising, but our heart has always been on the Broads, we have purchased the boat and the next thing was a house in Norfolk so that we could relocate permanantly, that will have to wait until after the current regulations are lifted. The misses has taken my credit card off me beacause I have a corner of the room where I keep on buying things for the new boat, the post lady must be sick of me...lol....Stay safe everyone. Guest
Sorry I did not make clear that the new boat is an Alpha Craft 34, the Norman is now sold, I actualy bought the Norman aroundabout 2012 through a site that you and I are familiar with - The Norman Appreciation Society, sorry for the confusion... FairTmiddlin
Problem is with Yorkshiremen is. They have to venture south for a decent pint of beer. as southern beer doesn't travel we well not well enough to reach that far north They are stuck with John Smiths and Tetleys, which could be shipped to Singapore and back and still be the same cr@p that left

Been before and it is such a beautiful canal. It really is a lovely canal, extremely clean and pretty and with an abundance of wildlife much like the Broads. You can navigate from Preston lock free all the way to it's end at Tewitfield just over 40 miles, there is a spur at Glasson which has I think six locks to take you to Glasson basin where there is a sea lock. Garstang is a particularly nice town, mentioned in the Doosday book and is the world's first Fairtrade Town (7 good pubs within a 5 minute walk of each other and average £2.30 a pint), or you can moor up at Hest Bank overlooking Morecambe Bay where you may come across Tyson Fury who live nearby and who trains along the canal path and it's only a short walk into Morecambe. If you are into course fishing you won't be disappointed the Bream and Roach are prolific. John.
OldBerkshireBoy
I'll echo that, it is a lovely stretch of water.
