Fender Socks.

We have brought  new fenders for Mermaid. With a large one on the stern.Which has a sock.We now want soaks for the smaller  one.Not as easy as I hoped.We are looking for ten.Any advice would be helpful.

Marina spoke to someone vthere yesterday. He advised  that we let some of the air out then put the soak on.

Watched a guy a few weeks ago buying new fenders and elasticated socks in a well known local chandlers. Shop inflated fenders, he slipped socks on. Simples

Fender socks are the work of the devil.

Specifically designed to trap grit and dirt and then scratch and scuff the gel coat.

Simple not if already  inflated like our ones.

We have gone down the very cheap option. Only put them on the fenders when we moor up, my old vest tops! Works a treat eliminating annoying squeaking 😁

Steve whose doing work on Mermaid,suggested  a soak on the rear Fender which we've  done.We then thought  maybe a good idea to put soaks  on the smaller ones.Now I'm  more confused 😕.

With your nice new paint work I would avoid socks.

I looked into them a few weeks ago. Looking at the costs and reviews I decided to spend a couple of hours cleaning the old ones.

We found having two sets of fenders was best one for when on mooring and one matched set for posing when sailing. Fender socks are a pain. John

Many thanks everyone,maybe we won't get sock for the smaller  ones.We have ten side fenders.Works out about £150.

For what its worth, fender socks have never been highly regarded and seemingly do more harm than good.

Even after 20 years, its hard to see any damage ordinary ones do, and I cannot see the point. I accept white ones can show the dirt but its their functionality that counts - buy blue ones which don't show the marks!!!!

We had em. More trouble than they are worth they  trap dirt, grit, have to be washed regularly too. Ours soon became expensive rags
