C.Ricko
wrong side of the bridge, £20/ft for a small boat. bargain if you don't mind wet feet!
BroadScot
For the so called CAPITAL of the Broads it sadly lacks moorings for hirers I think. There are so many craft now that cannot get through the bridge. Yes there are the yards there, but often when I checked Barnes Brinkcraft on Cam, their craft took up the moorings available. The moorings outside the Kings Head were in a very poor state last October, not a mooring ring or post anywhere to be seen. The collection point for Pilot going through the Bridge is also not the best solution, IMHO. I am quite sure mooring a boat at Wroxham for privateers will cost a pretty penny. But a few more Public ones would be made welcome I am sure.

Oddfellow
Many people suggest that Wroxham is a great place to start your holiday, but it is really? Many people will try to get away from their starting point asap and often only return when due back. So, Wroxham becomes more of a "transit station" for many of the 140 or so cruisers stationed there. Add to this the fact that mooring is woefully inadequate for the capital of the Broads and Wroxham / Hoveton can lose some of its shine. Change-over days at Wroxham can be no fun either. The bridges need to have locks on them to drop the water level

ranworthbreeze
Hi Andy, What a good idea re the locks, I can thinks of at least five bridges that this would be a great solution for, especially the two at Yarmouth. Guest
Funny thing about Wroxham road bridge, unlike Potter, the low brick and masonry arch is completely superfluous to carrying the road traffic. When you take a close look from the footbridge alongside, the arched steel girders that support the road do not even touch the masonry arch structure, let alone rest on it. It's much less of an ancient monument than Potter too, having been bodged about over the years with bricks and steel. If the masonry "underhang" of the steel arch bridge was removed, leaving just the abutments that support the girders, the clearance would increase by about 600mm, over a much wider arc. I'm no fan of removing or raising Potter Heigham bridge, but I think Wroxham is quite a different case.
C.Ricko
Perhaps if Wroxham was ever bypassed, then we could remove the Bailey bridge and put traffic lights on it!
Broads01
I agree about the limited mooring options at Wroxham below the bridge. If, as a hirer you can get in at Barnes it can feel less than relaxed - take your pick from a cramped basin or being on the main river being passed with continuous traffic. On a better note, the moorings for hire craft at Royalls and Summer Craft are often overlooked and both peaceful spots close to town. Best to get the ok from the owners though especially on Thursday and Friday pm when you can get turned away because of forthcoming changeover

MauriceMynah
We hired from Alan and Janet for years. Would have carried on too but dad started showing his age and had to hang up his boating gloves. Still reckon it to be one of the best yards on the broads!
