  1. It is just upriver from the entrance to Hoveton Little Broad at Horning. The marker posts are on your Starbourd side as you go up river. Edited to add that I believe NYA can 'test/demonstrate' the boats they have for sale just downstream of Horning. (Not sure if a time limit is in place though)
  2. Thanks for that. I asked because it says 'indoor aerial' and that made me wonder if it was waterproof.
  3. Just reviving this thread......Was that short aerial used outside in the rain? I only ask as I now own one but not taken it to the boat yet.
  4. There have been many good replies to this thread but I would like to add one more. Although I have been coming to the Broads since 1963, always as a hirer, we decided that it was time to buy our own, what with early retirement coming up. A complete stranger to us invited us on board their boat and showed us round and then we sat down for a cuppa and a good natter. They asked us what we wanted the boat for? after a few moments silence, they explained that what that meant was how often will you use it and for how long at a time. What do you want to leave on it permanently and how much stuff in clothing, bedding and food will you bring down each time. This dictates how much storage room must be available before you start on anything else. If you are having guests remember that they will require storage room too. Are you reasonably fit to get on-and-off even with very high tides. This will in some ways depict which style of boat you need. Buying is usually the easy part, paying for Insurance, BSS, Tolls and mooring fees go up with the length of the craft. And all this before you use it. Spend some time with your eyes closed imagining 'living' on the boat on a day-to-day basis once you have seen a boat you like. Don't be talked into making a hasty decision by a broker who may say that they have someone else looking at it. Above all, make sure you have a full survey! On our first choice, he told us to walk away as it had been sunk twice and the boat must weigh about 3/4 ton more than it should because the Osmosis was that bad. He saved us a fortune. When you find something that looks good to you, ask for opinions on here as someone may already own one like it and give you some very helpful insights on it. Good luck with the search and don't be in a hurry. It took us 2 yrs to find our first one. We are now on our fourth!
  5. Hi Colin. The bottle(s) were definitely empty. I picked them up to check! Richardsons in Horning are doing all the upgrades and I have asked them to look into it, but it does say on the plaque that it can use Propane. I asked them to check that the cooker and hob can use it and if so, change it over as the regulator needs changing anyway as it's not a Calor unit and therefore I would have to carry the bottles some distance to change them rather than getting them from Richardsons. (I'm getting to old for that malarky) Just as an added thought....Has anyone had any experience of those units you stick on the side of the bottles to say how much gas is left in it?
  6. HI. It's a Trumatic E4000 which is rated at 3.7kw. It's being run on Butane. I do like it being so quiet but with that amount of gas used, it's not something I'm prepared to put with as we use our boat for most of the year. As a back-up, yes I'll keep it.
  7. We have a Trumatic Blown air heater on our newly acquired boat and will agree with Vaughan that it is almost silent but it does use a huge amount of gas especially at this time of year. We used a 13.5kg bottle over three days on our last visit in November. It was only on during the day and came as a bit of a shock to find it using that amount. Whilst the boat is in the workshop for several upgrades, a new Webasto Thermo top C diesel heater See here is being fitted and leaving the gas one in place as a standby. If you do the sums, you see that the diesel heater is far cheaper to run.

    Tv Aerial

Having just come across this thread, How high is that aerial shown with the link please. Having just changed our boat, it would save some work if suitable!
  10. 62 pages Charlie!!! I think not......... Sorry.
  11. Due to the fact that we changed this unit for a Victron as the unit decided it was getting too old now! I have these instruction books for it and they are free to anyone who wants/can use them. If I have to post then a small charge will be made to cover that. (It's 16 pages in total for the Battery Monitor one and 46 pages for the Unit one.)
  12. Another of the Greats from my era now gone too.
  13. See here:- https://www.facebook.com/BroadsAuthority/ Breydon was closed to hire boats this morning but is now open again.
  14. I have a rebuilt Jabsco toilet pump complete with Joker valve and additional seals and screws. As can be seen from the photo's, it is in perfect condition and was thoroughly cleaned before re-assembly. It was thought to be a faulty unit, despite it being almost new, so was rebuilt and kept as a spare, and the fault was eventually traced to another area. As it's no longer needed on our present boat, it needs to be gone, so offers/questions by PM please and to be collected from Horning Marina on our next visit about the end of the month. If posting is required then a small charge to cover costs will be applied.
  15. The last time I went passed the Berney, there was a Height gauge there. Has it gone?
  16. I can't be certain but either late 60's or early 70's. Someone will be along to give us a true date.
  17. I read somewhere many years ago that the bridge was sinking due to the heavy trucks passing over it, hence the bypass road. Also, there is an element of global warming..........(Despite recent reports that it is in fact not warming at the staggering rate we were told) but the sea levels are rising albeit slowly. This is how it used to be back in the 60's. (A recent photo by-the-way!)
  18. Not an answer to your question but we followed you into Wroxham last Friday. We had been following you for some time and thought I recognised the boat but it was confirmed when you turned into what I believe was your moorings.
  19. I'm not sure how much room you have for clearance under the shaft where it then goes to the drive shaft, but could a 4 blade model aircraft prop be fitted to push cool air back over the motor? Hobbyking do a fare range from 35mm up in both CW and CCW. It won't stop the drain on the battery but may help to keep the motor cooler.
  20. You are correct Clive but I was just trying to keep it simple, like me
  21. Because they wouldn't have an argument then would they?
  22. In answer to ChrisB. I had an Email from an information request that it will be joined to the A47 at Easton and there was an ongoing investigation in how and where to build it. I suppose that those inevitable 'Newts' will somehow be 'found'.........
  23. That shows another good reason to pick your passage through Yarmouth with care! I always plan on arriving with the tide already turned so that if there is a problem, as with engine failure, then you are at least pushed inwards away from the sea. It appears from that clip that they must have arrived whilst the tide was in full Ebb, judging by the speed of the outflow. We ALWAYS wear our life jackets between Acle, St Olaves and Reedham even if not venturing outside of the boat and they are always to hand at all other times. I feel for those on board, it must have been truly frightening.
