  1. Worth bearing in mind that brokers, particularly the big, well-known ones will have buyers on their books who are looking for suitable boats. I have sold one through a broker straight away without it even being advertised, as it was what someone was after and they were on the look-out.
  2. Lowestoft every time for me. JW is right - Lowestoft much more geared up for pleasure vessels, and no bar to get over on the way out. Overnight at the yacht station, hearty breakfast at the Wherry, then out. Failing that, RNSYC overnight and you are really on the doorstep of going out quickly and easily. Also shops for final topping up of the biscuit barrel and milk. Diesel too.
  3. Very happy with NYA. Yes it cost a bit, but worth it for taking the hassle and grief, tourists and weirdos out of the equation.
  4. You're not trying hard enough -- my 7 series was big and could pick up its skirts and run with the best of them!!
  5. Would never go back to a manual; why make life hard work? Especially with today's tiptronics and steering wheel paddle shifts if you do want extra work... If you want to play chuck it into sports mode and off you go on the twisties.
  6. Big respect. I know we were delighted to see them arrive once. Must be exhilarating though, knowing the boat can handle it. Thank goodness they are crewed by these highly skilled, brave individuals.
  7. Four years South, then one year North. Boating is not a contact sport in the south. (dons tin hat)
  8. Mariner, Mariner, Mariner. Tried many others over the years, and always regretted it. Tohatsu 70 - ok at full whack at sea. Hidea 15 - hideously unbalanced and made of cheap plastic, numb hands after 5 minutes on the tiller. Evinrude 9.9 - unrefined. Yamaha 50 ok at full whack. Plenty of others which have not rocked my world. Mariner single-handed control with speed and gears on the tiller - great. They start first or second pull (manual or electric) after winter, they run in less water than the others, reliable as anything. Bullet-proof too. Will ever buy anything else again. Truly converted - can you tell..?
  9. I have one of these. They're great, and big enough to cope with a lovely bass I pulled out of the water at Goodchilds and filleted!
  10. I see to remember they are laid up in Southampton and moved here for fit-out. Or is it the other way around?
  11. Jasminum is really good. Not fancy, but excellent food.
  12. Yes, was listening to it today in the car. Brilliant.
  13. Excellent - looking forward to breakfast.
  14. Having tried lots of the others, with some nightmares, I would recommend Jeckells every time. They reply to messages, complete the work quickly and are good quality.
  15. Someone once told me our nearest motorway was in Holland. True or not - never actually got around to checking...?
  16. Yes - had them spinning down the middle of the bus if I remember. And the masterclass on letting them nearly get to the door!! Great fun
  17. A rousing chorus of the Lobster song, closely followed by the Engineers' song always goes down well on rugby tours too We have a fair repertoire of ditties to make the ladies blush, often sung at full voice on the coach!!
  18. Astonishing. Absolutely bonkers. I have to go past the wretched thing twice every day. Ridiculously complicated nightmare designed by buffoons.
  19. I have a friend who relies on his Rulan. The problem is that it keeps falling off. Adhesion aside, it does work.
