Yes I remember, it had scary low freeboard, but being a good boy, he stuck to the speed limit; on the plane would have been less of a close encounter with the broad, maybe.
After a very busy few weeks I am hoping to get Brilliant tucked up for the winter in a couple of weeks time. The season has flown by! On our mooring we use the Whimp less than we did with Rondonay and at Ranworth, so we are thinking about bringing her home and trailing more from here. There is a family wedding in the Lake District next April, so maybe she will go up to play Swallows and Amazons again. We also sailed her on the Carrick Roads which was great, and even up from Donnington to Oxford
Venice, definitely. With money no object, I'd charter a gondola and a speedboat for the holiday and have them on call for my palazzo on the grand canal.
I did look into hiring a small boat when planning our last visit, but there are no real public moorings so I gave up and enjoyed the place nonetheless.
Good luck on selling, and congratulations to you on acquiring the new boat. From Napoleon to Dr Who.
I have seen the new boat in passing at the brokerage and thought it looked lovely.
Phill got a painter to do our house who had knocked on the door...not a thing I ever would do. I was incandescent to tell the truth, Dad was a painter and I could see this was a bodge. Many complaints and mutterings disturbed the harmony at home as the job lurched on. Finally and as he was on the rear dormer, I came home to find bits of car tyre on the drive. What the heck did he want with these? Months later as the roof leaked, we found out. He had managed to damage the roof and 'fixed' it with bits of car tyre tacked on.
Phill trained at GEC as an apprentice. The Spon Street factory in Coventry was a listed building and, having been a Raleigh Cycle works before was impegnated with oil. At least three fire services were listed to attend sharpish in case of a fire.
Ageed Strowager, but John is right, novices need to ask questions that they suspect have obvious answers to experienced boaters, and this may put them off asking. The point is that most boaters love sharing boating knowledge, it's one of the lovely things about the activity. So fire away and forget the apologies.
We have a winter cover for Brilliant, but leave the back open, open all doors lift cabin sole, remove all textiles, and put in dehumidifiers. She is also out of the water, being a woody.
