Yesterday was a marathon on the sail cover so as to finish it for the weekend. The zip went in, hooray for double sided tape, which also helps waterproof the seams, cool.
  2. Ohhh can I get the full race in Virgin?? I just thought it was C4 only for me. I am not paying loads extra to see the Season. The C4 coverage was good given their limited franchise.
  3. Our weekend aboard BA 'won' in a charity auction is still remembered fondly by the family members who came. Why? It is because Griff went the extra mile and more to make it a very good experience. Hats off!
  4. Great news about your hearing Andrew!
  5. Quiz night is at 8.30 folks, all welcome!
  6. Nah Granny Ogg, I swear I heard strains of The Hedgehog Song drifting out from under RT at one point.
  7. Soooooo, having accidentally won, I get to set the quiz for Friday. Sections will be; Famous Tims Star Trek Voyages of Discovery Roald Dahl Great Yarmouth General Mayhem. See you there? Friday 8.30

Warp asked me if I would make a new sail cover for Flying Fish, the racing yacht on which he crews. Of course I agreed, then I saw the job! This thing is 30ft long. That is the old one you can see in pic. 1 and pic.2 shows the Timbo cartoon flying fish, enlarged and stitched, waiting to go on each side of the finished cover. Thank you Tim, thank you Jeckells Sails for samples and helpful advice as always, and thank you Pinel and Bax for advice and eventually supplying the Weathermax and all the bits needed. Now I just need to finish it.

Er, Griff, on Brilliant we have all the things you just listed! Oil lamps, petrol engine with separate throttle, 1920s loo Etc etc. But we do have an induction hob for when friends build their gas bottles into the locker,,,,,,,,
  12. I disagree Wyndham, knowing what ought to happen is half the battle. You aren’t then just making up a strategy as you go along, while the other helms are doing that too with maybe different/ conflicting outcomes. The Broads are, however, navigated by lots of novices who may only know about keeping right and avoiding a sailboat, so, yes flexibility is needed. But COLREGS, and no doubt bye laws, do expect everyone to avoid a collision even if it means giving up a right of way so there’s no justifation for standing on one’s position no matter what. Which is indeed common sense.
  13. I was with you until you told people they had better read the bye laws. The tone can get members backs up however right you are, and you are indeed right.

  18. Look forward to seeing you there.
  19. Thoughts from a wooden saily owner: Cover the boat, allow ventilation. You have insulated it without the trauma of taking down the vinyl lining. (I have done a re-line on GRP argh) That's why so many of the sailies have 'overcoats' . I did this with our GRP one when we had it and that worked too. Under the mattresses, I use a double layer of IKEA rug underlay, the mesh one , and have never had an issue, this worked with GRP too. Finally, don't mess with winter, take out your fabrics and put in damp crystals. Roys DIY are cheap and cheerful. we used to lift out every other year with GRP but annually with wood.
