    Boat Door Locks

Yes, I did ask about locksmiths. In the event we got a local guy to repair the (probably original) brass lock. I just need to refit it.
  2. We went to a village locally the day after Doris, their Silver Jubilee Cherry Tree had clearly succumbed, but there was almost nothing left, the wood-burners in this wealthy community were already benefitting. Community action at its most efficient!

    Boat Door Locks

    Which bit reminds you??
  4. Ay ay, pay attention there! I suggested the traditional broom handle several posts ago. To get picky, it's really a stern siting for the red ensign, you could design your own pennant for the bow, or even fly an NBN one. Broom for one and boat hook for the other!
  5. We already have, Hoveton Great Broad!
  6. I thought I had set emails to store on the server for a month after deleting on my devices, but they don't appear to have then deleted. Thanks for the replies, even though Timbo got the blame for the email archaeology, it was I that got the deluge.
  7. Divide by about 10 for the number of years they go back.
  8. I set up my Virgin mailbox on my Mac today, next thing that happened was that it downloaded 24000 old emails with a note that it was going for 54,000. I have a setting that is supposed to delete old messages from the server so can anyone tell me what happened. I did interrupt the download!
  9. Hhhhho yes I did notice the address.
  10. I think, heads apart, this is the worst cabin type job on a boat, glad you got a good result Stuart.
  11. I was thinking broom handle myself......
  12. Black Horse Broad? My favourite too. Doggy life jackets? Amazon or eBay no problem.
  13. It's more likely to be a question of 'how'? Lots of hire boats don't have anything like a flagstaff on them, you may have to improvise.
  14. Hello and welcome! Good ideas and advice here. I would add, keep the dogs shut in the cabin when you are mooring up, or doing any other boat manoeuvre, you will then be able to fully concentrate on boat handling, rather than a possibly excited and not boat-wise dog becoming a risk to themselves or you. Maybe bring a small mat from home to help them keep their footing climbing on and off, we wear non slip shoes, they can't.
  15. 'Long distance information give me Memphis Tennessee'?
  16. Brilliant beat Maidie once...on a run up Wroxham Broad, when it came to zig zagging we were no place
  17. Thanks for posting your quiz Vaughan. I have only sailed on a tall ship once, and for a brief trip; but would happily go again, it was awesome!
  18. On the Severn, to get up to Bewdley, they used trees to create flash locks, letting the depth build up behind the blockage then coming though on the wave created when these were pulled aside. Once the canal was built into Stourport the practice was redundant and Bewdley declined as a port.
  19. Yep, fence survived the wind thanks to dinghy spars and oars being deployed.
  20. Bad luck on Kircaldy, he's never in Westminster!
  21. Certain ladies in C18th were described as 'Barques of Frailty', having led a sheltered life, I have no idea what this signified.
  22. Yeah right, tell me about it. One estate our school served had London people who were given the option of prison or 'a new life in the country'.
