  1. Mayo, Pickle or Coleslaw with it ? Are you good at making decisions? "Well, yes and No"
  2. Quoting the EDP: The bridges at Reedham on the River Yare and Somerleyton on the River Waveney have been swinging open for fixed-mast river craft since 1905. Network rail needs reminding that they and their predecessors have had 113 years to source the relevant spares which will keep the bridges operational. Hot days they can now do little about. Bearing failures are predictable with routine maintenance. Ohh, they don't do that because it is too expensive. They would do if the bridges always failed in the open position!
  3. Interesting vid Robin. Thank you. Irritating "Fizz" on the laptop speaker which dissappears if you press in a certain area. cured by plugging in a set of earphones! Engines sound lovely.
  4. Albacores in the Shetlands too long ago to admit to! then a Heron at Exmouth and Grafham water late 80's, then found the Broads in the 90's. Still got my first boat, a 16ft Mayland on the Broads. Now an Elysian on the Gt Ouse. Oulton Broad got too expensive.

    Tolls

Sorry Lastdraft, I should have been a bit more specific! Environment Agency, Anglian Waterways. River Nene, Great Ouse and it's tributaries, Stour, Welland & Glen, Ancholme and Black Sluice. Black Sluice is a Fen drain entered from Boston Haven. But not the Middle Levels or the Cam upstream from Bottisham Lock which is administered by the River Cam Conservancy.

    Tolls

EA are a little bit more reasonable as if you register for a Toll after 1st Sep, you only pay for half a year.
  7. Called into the Triangle Tavern in Lowestoft this lunchtime for a pint of Orange Wheat beer. That was not on, but I had a pint of Jenny Morgan instead! 4 odd % and it was a good session beer.
  8. I say Jeeves, Fetch me the Purdys will you!
  9. Dare one say "Where the Army goes, the Pongos"?!!!

BA, I have to presume that HMS Explorer was the patrol vessel P164, and not the submarine!!!! Shall I duck now!
  11. OP is quiet, Was it a "Cat among the pigeons" type post?
  12. Used to do the Northern Broads every February half term at one time. Usually bright, sunny and cold. Eberspacher made it possible!
  13. The bad and the good - just need the ugly! Some might say that would be me! I would have to disagree!
  14. Well Siddy, that was not the reply he was expecting to hear! Might have been a pragmatic reply but your Auditor has to toe the line!!!!!
  15. Can a Mod delete one of my double posts please? Sometimes my fingers stutter. I am a 'hunt and peck' sort of typist!
  16. My objection to the application duly posted. Took a bimble down from Hardley Dyke today and had a pleasant meal and a couple of drinks down there. Moored in Reedham to take on water. There were 16 mooring posts between us and the next boat. Why did P1 the river inspector moor up in the middle and not close to either us or the boat in front?!!!! I guess it wasn't thoughtlessness, rather Operational Reasons!!!!!!!!! Pity a hire boat seeking to moor gave him a little nudge as he came in!!!!
  17. Have to agree with TheQ, Ten police cars is somewhat of an over reaction. I suppose they were all a bit bored sitting drinking tea in the station.
  18. Went down to Ely to meet middle boy and family last week.Grand daughter of 13 months who has been boating on the Nen and the Gt Ouse from about 2 months old. Child and bumbling idiot Rottweiler have taken to boating well. I was even allowed to pilot the boat from the Cutter down to Littleport and wasn't told how to do it or not do it once!! That was a first!
  19. Small & co at Lowestoft have a 76,5m X 14,5m dry dock 4.5m max draft. I have no idea on prices but they do have a website.
  20. Love to see a flag with Idris the Dragon on it. Shame Jones the steam doesn't get a look in!
  21. I think the Hampton in Robin's photo is/was moored up on the Deben at Felixstowe Ferry.
  22. Common sense says No. Reality will probably say yes. I couldn't stand by like "untrained" Police and other rescue services and do nothing.
  23. Not sure of when they were carried out (possibly between Sunday and midday today)but there have been a number of fuel thefts at Hardley Dyke. Several boats were broken into and fuel stolen. Petrol was the object as cans were stolen, emptied and then chucked into the dyke. I had two remote tanks in the cabin on my little Mouse. They took the one with about 1 1/2 gallons in but left the virtually empty one. Don't wish to be the harbinger of doom, but if you moor at Langley Dyke or Rockland, it may be worth checking your boats.
  24. Hylander, just a throw away line!! Haven't yet learnt that they are not always appropriate!!!!!
