  1. Taken from facebook: Robert John Richardson, born 2 August 1923. Robert Richardson, a pioneer innovator in the marine industry, sadly passed away on 20th October 2018, aged 95. In a quote to the team members at Richardsons Leisure Limited the Richardson family announced: "It is with deep sadness that the family wish to inform you that Mr Richardson (Bobby) has passed away. After suffering a stroke on Friday morning, he was taken to Norwich University Hospital where, with all his children at his bedside, he slowly and peacefully passed away at 1:30am Saturday morning. The success of the business and the continuing improvements to land, buildings and boats and the developments of you, our team, were a daily interest to him. He was keen to watch and learn of what was being done and behind the scenes his input continued to be invaluable. We are sure his legacy will be remembered through the success of the business. (As a mark of respect the Richardson’s flags are flying at half mast at their marinas and holiday park.)" Mr Richardson Jnr opened his boating portfolio with the purchase of 4 row boats in the early part of the war before he was ‘called up’ and his father let them for him during the War, in addition to the existing fleet of day boats. In 1944 Mr Richardson purchased their first motor cruiser and early 1944 Mr Richardson Snr and Jnr bought Old Mill House Boatyard in Oulton Broad, from which they let row boats, sailing boats and motor launches. Robert Jnr was in the RAF during the war, stationed in Palestine, Egypt and India. In 1947 he re-joined his father in the boat letting business. By 1957 the Hire Fleet had outgrown the Oulton Broad sites which led to Mr Richardson Jnr looking for larger premises on the Norfolk Broads. During late 1957 the fleet of hire boats was moved to Stalham and hiring commenced Spring 1958. During the next 15 years the fleet increased with the expansion of the original site at Stalham, creating the largest boatyard on the whole of the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads. In 1986 Horning Boatyard was purchased, followed by three boatyards on the River Thames in 1991. The last boatyard to be purchased was ‘Hearts Cruisers’ in Thorpe Norwich in 1992. In 1993 Mr Richardson diversified bringing a new venture to the Group with the introduction of Holiday Villages. His achievements within the marine industry were recognised in 2010 with Mr Richardson being awarded the Boating Business Lifetime Achievement Award by Marine Trades Association (MTA) and Boating Business. For more on Mr Richardson’s amazing history see link below: https://www.richardsonsboatingholidays.co.uk/…/20181022-Boa… Greg Munford, Chief Executive of Richardson’s and President of British Marine commented: “Mr Richardson was a pioneer, innovator and an entrepreneur ahead of his time. One of the founding Fathers of post war tourism in our region. A quiet, kind and true gentleman whose passion for boating and business has allowed millions of people to enjoy our wonderful waterways in Norfolk, Suffolk and the Thames along with holidays on land through his inspired diversification into holiday parks. His business has created happy memories that families and friends will never forget and that will transcend their generations. For those who had the privilege to know him his memory will never be lost. It is with sadness that we will be celebrating our 75th year without Mr Richardson but knowing the man he would certainly want it to be ‘business as usual.’” Mr Richardson leaves behind a much-loved family; his daughters Jess and Laura, sons Paul and Clive and nine grandchildren.
  2. Excellent.. looking forward to this! The hull certainly looks like a broom 37 hull. The top looks pretty cool though I hope you get and keep it watertight though. Please keep us all updated with the progress!
  3. A barrister? why on earth did It need a Barrister? Is the barrister in the need of some urgent planning works on his broadland property or something? What's wrong with just a common solicitor? Is the B.A Legal filled with gold? All clearly very complex, personally I trust Jame's opinions/views whatever, so another minus point in my book for the BA and it's clearly bizarre management...
  4. It's certainly sadly easier not to post than to post. Hopefully she's well and still watching. Be good Gracie :)
  5. These smaller engines are all the same base model, therefore you shouldn't have problems really. Talking with the chaps at boatworld they have been around for some years, apparently so have these engines, must admit I've seen a few on the broads. I wouldn't hesitate about purchasing one from them, certainly at half the price of the bigger brands.
  6. Take a look at these, spotted them at the southampton boat show: https://www.boatworld.co.uk/boats/outboard-motors Not quite as cheap as this, but £100 per horsepower is really on par with the old 2 stroke prices yet 4 stroke engines... love the name too :) :)
  7. As others mentioned, you will need a Peel ports conservatory licence (Not sure what they are conserving) if your boat is permanently moored afloat on the tidal mudway, it's about £65 quid per year. It's not policed though unless you are being locked into a marina then only then I guess you are checked, maybe. It is a bit of a joke as there are no facilities and the medway isn't being dredged but yeah you should have one. Marina's or local clubs often offer a discount and you can get for £49 pa. If you are residential though and pay council tax on the boat then you are except, even if you use the boat?! (I tried to pay but they wouldn't take the money!).
  8. I think we are ready?!! It's been a maze and a ton of paper work, let alone sorting the stand! We have moved slightly and are now in the corner.. Stand number J200! (just behind you there Neil). We will have 5 thousand samples to give out and some door mats to sell at the show.. So do stop by if anyones at the show! I'll also have some free pens! We are heading down to Southampton on thursday and I'm there until the end (At present though I'm not sure when I'm home as no ones confirmed the breakdown times!).. hopefully we have a good show.. it's been hard work just to get this far!
  9. A bit of a bump! Also to help get everyone ready for the show.. I can offer NBN members 20% off our door mats... Take a look: https://www.teak-carpet.co.uk/mats.php
  10. I disagree that facebook attracts the younger crowd, at present it seems to attract those mature generations whom have vile attitudes and views to other humans, personally I don't see how anyone should accommodate them...apart from perhaps allow norfolk broads boats to turn left at yarmouth and watch darwin do his magic ...
  11. The issue with facebook is that it's a lot harder to moderate as there is so many posts.. As always help the team by clicking the report button. Although the posts may descend into the pits of hell until moderated, I'd like to think the moderation is a little tougher there when it happens..
  12. Vaughan, I must admit I read as the same as Ray her. Kingfisher was stating that the trial would be a lot worse if the unfortunate helms where on a hireboat.. certainly as most of the disgusting posts on the social groups are brutal enough as it's a owner helmsmen.
  13. Just remember that if you do make a mistake, remove any flags (certainly NBN ones), put something over the boat names and numbers!
  14. Guys, I'm not just saying this following recent team events but I think we shouldn't say too much as we could defame individuals.. My personal experience of the ferry is one with caution and the use of the 160db air horn on a number of occasions.
  15. The post has been removed now, mainly because the commentators refering to helmsmen as "Muppet, Idiot, etc etc" why do people have to react like this? .. geez makes you want to find a nice broad and escape to...
  16. A Privateer who will sadly be very red faced.
  17. Pops I think you should go citizens advise really, I think you need to prove that she doesn't live there, Have you reported this to the police as a stolen identity? That may do as proof to start as then you can clearly give them that reference.. but don't just ignore it...
  18. Bloody hell..Thanks Peter! Sounds like a good movie.. Good luck to Lana then, sounds like she can make some difference! If I could vote well she would get mine! Enjoy the show ;)
  19. Neil, I don't understand your views of authority figures but I can't see it's helpful for you really. I really don't believe you can attach broad labels like that on anyone and it show you in a good light if you do. Can someone please ever so kindly help answer some questions for this as my understanding of the BA is a bit sheltered and again it's one reason I like the NBN; Who chose these candidates? Why JP's name not down as a chairman? Who's going to vote for these people into the roles? Did Lana get kicked out of the BA some time ago? If so how is she back, and is she "hated" and therefore it's really a one man race? Can either of these people force big changes and potentially remove the CEO from office? Sorry for my ignorance and stupid questions, I really only use the broads to escape from the world and don't really follow the politics only what is reported here (and elsewhere).. Thanks in advance!
  20. Well done again to Mark and Andy, I've been following the story since they brought these boats and so much work has been put in.. I'm so looking forward to jumping on one very soon, certanly as you can go under bishops bridge and into norwich which must be amazing. All the very best guys and I hope you have a really good first season!
  21. Hi Neil, Looking forward to spotting you. I'm on stand for the full week (probably not the wises move!) so you wont miss me!

  24. I'm a bit worried here.. I know nothing about electrics, but as we have mod's and staff talking here, perhaps it's wise to remind that all modifications should be carried out by professional dodars and then checked by a marine qualified electrician, marine surveyor and the by god himself.. Fires in boats are not something you walk away from.
