  1. Peter.. Sadly it seems a real norfolk aboriginal is becoming rare.. Most people you talk to reply back in a london accent or an essex accent.. It's still nice though to meet a real norfolk born and bred though.. I love the norfolk accent! (It always brings a smile followed by the constant p*** taking for a good hour after.. "Slow u Doune" lol )
  2. They did the repair onsite at our current yard BB.. I wish they/we moved it to their yard as that would have saved me paying but there is only so much luck in the world certainly when it was all insurance money (and I guess I would have to pay in the end anyway).
  3. Glad to hear you sold it.. I'm on the hunt for an electric one.. so if it was electric I would have grabbed it P.s to the forum
  4. Hi Gary, I'm sorry we probably delayed your refit a bit! But you certainly picked one of the good yards from our experience. Good luck with it and I'm sure she will be worth the wait
  5. Best case we wont need the hiab... just motor her out
  6. Id say just get a small grapple type Mark. it should bite enough and be light enough to carry around. I personally wouldn't use anything heavier.. as it's just got to bite a bit. http://www.absoluteindustrial.co.uk/marine-c6/anchors-c26/folding-grapnel-boat-anchor-galvanised-p35
  7. Thanks all.. Their work is certainly very very professional.. Sadly she's suffered under the tree at the marina so will need a repaint in the summer but that's life. I've just booked GMR to move her this friday and as long as all is good we will be out and about this weekend.. look out for us if you are about.. we will be on the Ant... Can't wait
  8. I approached Moonfleet, Stalham as well as others to quote for an insurance repair to Orca. They were really good even at this stage and our insurance where impressed with them so they got the job (Poor things!!). I dealt with Phil (and Clive from Richardsons (Cheers Clive)) who was brilliant and really reasurring, his communication was really good all the way through and he even managed to deal with me stressing without any problems They repaired some underwater hull damage (about 2 feet crack?! maybe more), on time and within budget. I had some reviews from others concerning a high cost but I assure that the cost was fair, yes it wasn't cheap but it was a lot of work and I think they did amazingly well for the cost. I had a survey done half way through the job and the surveyor remarked "repairs above and beyond what was required". We inspected over the weekend. Sadly my teak and holly flooring had to be taken up to do the repair but it was replaced and to our surprise they even replaced the whole lot so it doesn't look mismatched and it certainly just as good as before They also hoovered and dusted and inside there is no signs that anything happened. They even wiped over the wheelhouse floor so you couldn't see footprints! Externally they also antifouled the repaired hull area. You really put a smile back on my face and helped to somewhat restore my faith in Norfolk tradespeople so thanks again. We certainly highly recommend them and will certainly consider for any future work. (Touch wood we need such repair done again though). Couple of pictures attached taken by them during the work. Thanks again
  9. Lol oh geez I probably should stay quiet!! ah sod it... I have a few friends from over the border and I'm sorry they are "essex". I think it's more sauth essex that put on the show whether intentionally or not.. and the sauth is more common than the nicer parts of further north. But I'm sorry from what I see it's very true..Driving up you know you when you are in essex. Bless them.. obviously there's the small exceptions but not many lol... (No real offence intended ;) )
  10. Hi Mark.. Washing machine.. Gas mark 40 with washing power.. come out as new (You may need to do a couple of times if really bad/originally white though.. and do a empty hot wash after before your misses finds out!).
  11. You chaps are jumping the gun.. addressing could just mean, kinda cleaning them Must admit they are the same tiles as in the loo at home!! I hope you don't overly change the seating areas in the bar as I quite enjoyed sitting in there. One thing which surprised me with the bar is the outdoor area (towards the river) is a bit ruined by the car park and a brick wall so you can't see the river.. So it's kinda like sitting in the car park by the wall.. missed opportunity.. I think if that can be landscaped with the river blending in seamlessly that would be really nice. Good luck Kris.. sounds like good news for the pub (I've had a good couple of nights in there.. had a good atmosphere..) (please take everyones comments as constructive naturally )
  12. Please can we stop swanning around.. This is meant to be a serious forum... Hope the swan was left off with just a warning.
  13. I must admit I did think carefully about staying there but it's a bit out the way of where the boat is and I read somewhere that Kris's team are refurbishing the rooms (so really looking forward to see the rooms after).. Gracie I guess it will become our local now so definitely!
  14. Couple of months back Peter.. After the refurb.. as much as I like Eddie. it's not for me.. it's a strange sense of style.. by plain I mean unfinished and perhaps rushed styling (Orange?!).. The sofa's by the TV is nice but it doesn't match the rest. Saying all of this though it's a definite stop a huge positive for the area
  15. There's a good little bar/pub in the broadlands village at oulton which we found last year (I think that's the one this is referring to) .. It's a nice little stroll from the YS and has a outdoor area overlooking the marina and the broad.. I'm not a fan of the pub at the WRC though.. it's too plain for me.. Well done both companies though.. I'm going to so miss the south but I guess it's something to look forward to next summer.
  16. They were typical friendly yachties Mark .. I admit though it's not the most secure thing to motor around in but any boat can be untied I guess.. (I certainly need to look into this boat shield scheme ;) )
  17. Sadly the BA and councils don't share that view Branden... I must say though what you probably mean is they are about more frequently than holiday makers because some of us do work it's also a good idea a good point of being friendly which fell moored boats as anyone moored near you as anyone can act as security, I typically ask anyone I moor next if they wouldn't mind keeping an eye on the boat (and ropes) whilst we wonder off and I happily do the same to others.. Saying that even fisher people.. When we was out in the dinghy last year on a very secluded part of the broads (under that bridge) we stopped off next to a sailboat and asked if they can keep an eye on it whilst we find the pub.. They didn't even blink and pretty much told us to tie the dinghy to their boat! They was so kind and even appeared to wait until we returned (it was only a lunch)..
  18. here's the link to buy if anyone hasn't got theirs yet: http://shop.norfolkbroadsnetwork.com/index.html#blog
  19. It would be nice to have a GSM alarm/monitoring system aboard though Mark. So next time there's an impact, I will at least get a text...
  20. Did it actually work in Norfolk?? I've thought of getting one for the boat but we are on three and signal on the phones is as we all know.. lumpy.. (And I'm still not sure I want to bring the boat into the modern day.. We don't even have a TV )
  21. Broadsbeat is seasonal? surely out of season is when they are needed?!
  22. I work in IT, I'm a software developer.. I read books made with paper (Belive it or not they still print IT training material!).. I read magazines printed on paper.. Computers/tablets/phones etc are usless for reading on... There is nothing nicer than printed material.. I will never change!! (Stop being lazy Hoseasons)
  23. She's yummy Doug I certainly don't envy the work required on that varnished hull. Amazing looking forward to seeing her on the rivers
  24. There's more details here, I think, http://www.suffolk.police.uk/aboutus/ourservices/joinawatchscheme/marinewatch/boatshieldscheme.aspx (Sorry it's Suffolk police Stuart )
