  1. Grace, I was tough in them times and I class myself as being luckier than most. My mum was a great knitter and she would always knit us nicely patterned sweaters. When they got beyond it - the were ripped down and re-knitted with a new pattern. the same wool might have gone 2 or 3 times. I can remember being invited to a birthday party after school and my mum knitted me a sweater in an hour and a half.
  2. I can remember in 1961 - I was 9 years old and things were very tight at home. We had a local food distribution warehouse which caught fire and after being extinguished, all the cans went to the local 'land fill site' - or coup (cowp) as we would call it. Well, my dad got wind of this and the whole family started to move - on foot - by bicycle - pushing a baby's pram and my dad on his 125 BSA Bantam. We got to the site (about 5 miles away) and raided it. Everything that could be carried was carried and we had some strange dinners for a few months.
  3. I suppose that I am very lucky out here in Bali. My daily attire is baggy shorts and my footwear is either sandals or canvas shoes - BUT NO SOCKS.

  8. This thread has turned into an amazing debate on most aspects of the broads and access to them by whatever means and whoever for. It has shown the differing views, opinions, experiences, history, the future - you name it - it is in here. All I ask is that we don't get too personal peeps and we keep the thermostat at a reasonable level, so we can all continue to enjoy A GOOD ARGUMENT (tongue in cheek). I am enjoying this and I want it to continue in the same way.
  9. to the forum. August is not so far away really, when you think that New Year feels like it was a couple of weeks ago. Enjoy the banter on here and we hope to hear plenty from you.

  18. Being involved with the investigation of the theft of batteries in a past life, I can add this: The lead content of a 12V 100amph battery is worth much more, if it is out of the battery and many of the thieves would smash open the battery to get it. Our worry at the time was - where is all the acid going????
  19. Good one Rick. Keep them on their toes.
  20. You pay for overnight moorings, but if you have dinner there, the mooring cost comes off the bill - so free.
