  5. Well you are right about the 7 year warranty Robin - and Kia have been very good in terms of supplying a courtesy car - although it won't pull the caravan and the family holiday has been cancelled ......its been 19 days in waiting for a transmission part on a 9 month old car .......he was also told if it wasn't under warranty the bill would be the best part of 2k .....gulp I also Drive an Audi - have done for years and there was a time when I would take one around the clock before it was 18 months old ...........plenty of services but never ever had to buy any parts ever, even though there is good availability on spares ........and that's the point iam trying to make .........tried and tested should be a major factor overall I remember when I first passed my driving test and was about to buy my first car with no idea what to buy ?.......my dad said when you are buying a car always look at what the taxi drivers are driving - they need to be good to go to work let me tell you though a black cab was no good for pulling the chicks though ............ fx4fin
  6. The first thing I would be checking Andy is all the wiring connections and get a drop test on the batteries ,it could be something as simple as a bad earth before you work backwards towards the Alternators and charging systems which is will be the more expensive end of the problem Finny
  7. I tend to be weary of all things cheaper .......its a bit like Kia cars very cheap to buy but the price and the availability on some of the spares makes you wonder of its worth going down that road in the first place as a cousin of mine has just found out fiiny

  17. Unfortunately like most things in life there is a downside in having what they call a twin pack truck - you can not carry as much weight as a single pack truck because they are much wider and have heavier body than the narrow track truck - very unpopular with the drivers as they are very hard to get them around some areas ...also in some of the recycling centre's I go into its not uncommon for the staff to take a photo of the trucks reg then go through what's being tipped to make sure the load is not contaminated ..........if so ..they reject the load and rather than pay they charge the council to dispose of and that's why sometimes folks bins get left un-emptied on collection days by the crews ....................and remember folks its not the councils money .......it's yours I have seen everything from dead Animals to car engines in garden waste bins .....the mind boggles.. Finny
  18. " O good ol finnys a dustman - he wears a dustmans hat ......he has got reflect trousers and he talks a load of c**p..........well that's what my lads say ....... iam in charge of a few Crews (recent job move ) so this is right up my street ,mike is very right in his last post ,and some trucks also have separate compartments on the same truck for differing re- cycling .....folk often get confused seeing it go on the same truck Timbo there are very small cases where its far more cost efficient to throw everything on one truck but this only happens in extreme cases like poor access for the bigger trucks or its very rural and considering they are getting 3 to 4 miles to a gallon of fuel when the machine press is in full mode and then with the budget cuts the running costs don't see eye to eye these days even though a service has to be provided the cost of landfill is on the up Re-cycling is the only way to offset the costs Btw Iain 69% is very good - so carry on the good work Flatcapfin

  20. Iam having a little chuckle to myself here John - your tale has stirred up all sorts of happy times we had and hopefully will still have .....anyway John I hope you had the kettle on before you cut the Engine for Mary-Jane Finny
  21. There is something magical in being first up and first off when nobody else is around John ,river like a millpond a touch of morning mist breaking the early rays of sun .....on top of a cup of coffee and a fag ........it really doesn't get much better opps ....did I mention about leaving the wife in bed firstofffin
  22. Its a problem for all is that - you wont be coming down the bure on full engine revs and as you hit the crossflow don't be afraid to power the engine and at full tilt if you need to - it does work and I have never had a hireboat that cant ....you can always correct your engine revs when you are in a more comfy position Finny
  23. Perhaps I am a bit wrong in the head but I used to love making the crossing if was a bit choppy , another thing that was usefull after plodding around the upper Ant for most of the time was to cross Breydon punching the tide ......get the engine flat - ok not very fuel efficient but a dam good work out for your engine flatoutfin
  24. Mark I can remember making my first long trip down to the south side on my own boat and despite going through a rigorous check list I was still quite concerned - and you are right ....you can tick all the boxes of the never ending to do list but confidence needs to be built along the way .......I am sure you will get there and hopefully it will be a good read for us all too finny
