  1. There are pubs on the river that with imagination, hard work and a good selection of food and drink can work.Even pubs such as Berney arms and the Locks can be a great place to visit.I've often said if I was younger I would have a go.Sadly age and health are not on my side.I hope someone takes these pubs on and wish them well.
  2. The wrong kind of adventure. Hope your next trip is better and less eventful.
  3. That may well be the best way forward. If the community take on the pub, could be good.If they do so by shares I may be interested.
  4. Not sure I believe that.Okay if you take the city as an example. Due to Covad trade in coffee has dropped through the floor.Surely most of McDonald's customers are not big coffee drinkers. Coke and milkshakes yes.
  5. I hear Turkeys are hoping its just going to be a normal day.
  6. Poppies correct 30 for a Funeral.
  7. That's one of the best trick I've heard for many a year.
  8. Sorry the hotter the better for me.True can't do as much when temps get too high.Just sit back with a nice cold beer.
  9. When ever on boats have clothes for all four seasons. Personally I'm not good with cold.It may have something to do with me being a Chef for over forty years. If you prepare well as others have said the broads are great all year round.
  10. Used to like the Waveney, before it turned into a sports bar.Looking at the menu not for me.went in the lady of the lake last summer.Didnt have food there just a drink.Last time went in the Commodore again not for me.Not tried the other pubs.We are hoping to get to Oulton in a few weeks time. What pub or pubs would you recommend Peter?
  11. No I remember Susan, when we visited there as a child.Alan re found the pub much later, and we would always call in when we were close by.
  12. I've said many times,it's concerns me that many pubs on the southern broads, have gone on changed hands. Not always for the better.Berney Arms,Beauchamp Arms. The Ship and Lord Nelson. The New Inn at Rockland had problems in the summer. As I understand it there card machine was not working. I believe The Yare at Brundall is up for sale.Thats been our local for twenty years,a pub full of character. Will that remain if its sold? The Waters edge and the Locks, which seemed to have lost some of its character too.
  13. Think you find the coastguard decide what action to take,as I've said they attended my accident and decided that Ambulance was the best option. If it was more urgent then they would have called in the helicopter.
  14. Think the Ferry is perhaps one of the very best on the river.Always a joy going there.
  15. Yes he can be a bit like Basil, but I've never had a problem there.I remember the pub before it became the waters edge.Much better now.
  16. Had hoped to visit the Locks this year, but due to my head cut our trip short.Too many pubs on the southern broads closing. Dreaded covad not helping.
  17. That's enough with some people, to decide to swim ashore
  18. The coastguard would have called in the helicopter. They were present at my accident together with Hemsby inshore rescue. It was decided to take me by Ambulance to hospital .
  19. Wine yes also a good corkscrew. At anytime on boats.Prepare for four seasons. Sometimes all four in one day.Yes agree with NN (Howard).Dont forget pubs, many of which are very good, hopefully they remain open.
  20. Speaking from experience, accident s can and do happen. My disagreement with Ludham bridge has left a lasting mark on my life.Nearly every day I relive that dreadful day.If I could turn back time I would. That said it happened and I must get on with Life.Part of the reason concerning many of these accidents is perhaps this year the season , due to Covad has been short perhaps some people are so keen to get out and about that may be they are not taking the care that perhaps they would do normally. Let's hope that what remains of the season,is uneventful and safe for all.
  21. A lovely boat.Yes indeed someone will get a great boat.Hope you get a good return for all your hard work.
  22. Paul the head is healing well.Still need another scan on my lungs on the 28 September, and a breathing test on Friday, which is normally done at our GP surgery .Then what ever treatment I require. Also have a toothache and a bad back.Get getting old.
  23. The southern broads in the main have the strongest tides and current, and parts of the northern broads to around Stracy .After which the tides are not as strong. Wind will have an effect especially combined with the tides and currents .My advice to go for every big boat, and perhaps at first still on the northern broads until you gain experience.
