  1. Had to use it in anger on the window in a rented caravan when we were up on the Solway wildfowling and it did indeed effect a cure. For permanent repair I like Dow Corning Geocel Marine Sealant. Will cure under water etc and it is available in small quantities. Unless doing a large job I find however well I seal the tube after use when I come to use it again it has set solid.
  2. You could compromise by selling both the boats you have and buy a new Haines 32 Offshore. Perfectly capable of crossing to Holland to explore Freisland and onwards to the Baltic but equally at home on The Broads. Only saying so because if I could, it would be my choice, RCD cat B, single and twin engine options. Choice of layouts, wood finishes etc. I can only think what if our retirement had not come to such a tragic and premature end.
  3. Between my sons and I we have owned 5 Seats and never had a problem. My last was that real Seat colour of the early 2000s. Congratulations and happy motoring.
  4. yuasa_batteries-1.pdf I hope that this is "The Yuasa Little Red Book of Batteries" a good publication. If not it is worth a google.
  5. I had a Nasa BM1 battery monitor on my last boat and it was a good indicator. However I swear by my digital Fluke Multimeter for electrical install testing. It was not cheap but it is now coming up to ten years old. In that time I have returned it twice for calibration, a professional would most likely calibrate yearly.
  6. This seems to be the story of my life these days. I go months with nothing on at a weekend then this event that I would have driven to clashes with the 24hr Le Mans style race for 2CVs at Snetterton.
  7. Cut the brought in buffets and make everyone bring in their own sandwiches. That shortens meetings. Also get rid of all chairs in the meeting rooms, standing shortens meetings.
  8. Traffic lights. Would also break up the traffic making the right turn out of the B1152 much safer.
  9. Peter, neither do I, you have run Businesses in the Broads, would you have done so with two accounts that never the twain should meet?
  10. I do not wish to enter the field of environmental hydrodynamics because I am not qualified to comment. However my point is as a retired Director of two large multi nationals is it fair to the Management of the BA. If a company had a healthy plus balance in one account but had run on another and went cap in hand to the bank or shareholders it would not wash. Likewise in the present uncertain economic climate for the UK why should a need of cash be provided from the public purse if the Nav Acc. Is in credit if the Broads has a crisis need of cash. I am sorry but two tier accountancy is a stupid way to run any organisation .
  11. But is it really in the best interests of the whole area to have two pockets of money? How can you have effective financial management with one hand tied behind the back so they can't reach one pocket? If there was a disaster to navigation that could not be met within it's budget? Would you be happy to keep the accounts apart, even if it mean't a doubling of tolls? I feel the whole area of tolls can only be used for our benefit ( which I am sorry it is) is selfish, short-sighted and wrong in the long term.
  12. The BA come under the National Audit Office. I think you can trust their accounting.
  13. According to his daughter Jennifer virtually nothing was left original after the war, many of the boats being cropped in the middle and completely rebuilt. Having sat on the bottom of Hickling Broad.
  14. I think that the design chosen is very nice. Likewise it is good to see Potter smartening up. There are and have been too many run down tatty areas on The Broads and as has been stated people don't want that experience any more.
  15. I will answer the question that I posed above, the village sign reads ACLE Gateway to The Broads so I think a statement building is correct
  16. On my way to Ranworth to board Olive after crossing Acle Bridge you come to the "Acle" village road sign. Can anyone tell me what it says? Because it caught my eye. If I had been in my car instead of a minibus I would have taken a photo as I have said more than once on here that crossing Acle Brige is many folks first glimpse of The Broads.
  17. I have for the last few days been very tempted to take up the paddle again. I was at Morston and got into conversation with a young couple who were inflating their boat. The difference was this was as "rigid" as a Rigid. They said it was manufactured using the same technology as an inflatable Stand-up-Board. I was so impressed I made a note of its name in my phone.: it is called "Riber 420 inflatable Kayak by Dropstitch" and it cost an affordable £550. There is apparently a single seater as well for less money. My back was playing up so I did not lift it but they said it was 20 kilo.
  18. There are a very large number of people who do not see a bright side in the new roads. Nothing changes an area like roads and there is a great danger of spoiling what is "Norfolk" The development planned along the NDR will have a profound effect on Broadland as will the development around towns like Holt, even the coastal towns like Blakeney, and Wells are not immune.
  19. I was told by a respected yard manager who specialises in wooden craft that the Herbert Woods boats are always challenging to restore and maintain, being designed and materials used within around a ten year hire life. Longevity and resale value were very low priority and the motor cruisers were built down to a budget. One always also must be aware that for a number of years after WW11 quality materials were not freely available and perhaps the builder had no choice but to use what could be had.
  20. Many of the postcards from all over the country showing anything that was considered old at the time were developed using a tetenal sulphide toner for a sepia effect. Some photographers even bleached prints in the lab. Very often the yellowing you see is not age but toning during the films development.
  21. I would call that sepia Robin. Here is my take on monochrome.
  22. Ducati, ferrari or Alfa. All beautiful! BUT, will it start on a frosty English morning? If I had the money to spend on a car and was very very brave, as a shooting and fishing man my choice would be the Alfa Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV. Top Tilt 176 mph and 0 to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds. But would it start? Would the door handle fall off? £67K of engine £500 for the rest of the car.
  23. I have always associated that beautiful piece with something fast, red and Italian.
