  1. I recently watched "A walk in the woods" . Very disappointing and nothing like Bill Bryson's excellent book. Have to say it was unusual because Robert Redford is a stickler to keeping to the story as written. His version of "The Great Gatsby" is a true likeness to F. Scott Fitzgerald's work.
  2. A caffetiere is what I use in a morning and Taylors Rich Italian. If you buy ready ground coffee it will be fresh when you open it because the bags are flushed with inert gas, however once opened it is essential to seal the packet as best you can and most importantly refridgerate it.
  3. Thanks to both for the links. There are works that are so much better in Audio Format. I suppose most famous of which is Dylan Thomas "Under Milk Wood" which is nearly impossible to appreciate if just read.
  4. I tend to agree if that is the case. No need to make reference however slight to the fact that he was monitored by MI5 from the end of WW1 to 1937 and was considered by some to be a double agent. Perhaps there was a feeling of great unease after the author of one of the greatest sailing stories " Riddle of the Sands" Erskine Childers ended his life in front of a firing even after an exemplary previous military career. A bit heavy but "Six weeks in Russia - 1919" is a Ransome worth reading.
  5. And there is me having just washed my Nancy Blackett Trust polo shirt especially for the viewing. Bah!!!
  6. Will be screened on BBC1 at 17.05 on Sunday 19th August.
  7. Very high tides this morning on the North Coast. We are a couple of hors before Yarmouth.
  8. It is the same in Australia, unusual for a country that mirrors the US in some ways tipping is frowned upon. Whatever job you are doing they pride themselves on paying well, and tipping is saying that you are working for an employer who does not pay a fair rate for the job.
  9. Why do a hire yard sell a boat? A need to keep up with fashion and style of craft? Or have they become uneconomic to maintain for continous use during the season? A question, because I don't know.
  10. I must have misunderstood your intentions Robin for which I am sorry. With your purchase of the Trader I assumed that you wished to go, if not bluewater then overseas. I have done a fair bit of passage making and in common with most deep water sailors accommodation is not high priority. The Haines 32, to me is a great compromise between comfort and seaworthyness. That said I would always prefer a mast and sail for true cruising but at my age now would lean towards a good motor sailer. I think that there was none better than the Fisher range, unfortunately beyond my reach when I was a serious passage maker. And now that I could afford something very capable beyond my physical capabilities.
  11. It was a general comment not aimed at this thread or any particular establishment. I am just making an observation that reviews of any business are subjective and probably an area best avoided on this type of forum. Purely my opinion.
  12. Dining, restaurant experience etc is very subjective. More so than probably Hire Yards. If bad reviews of hire boats and yards are not allowed, then I think the same should be applied to Pubs, Restaurants and chippies. What is the official view of this, please?
  13. I went to some sort of coracle regatta at Ironbridge years ago and after a couple of Herefords best apple juice it seemed like a good idea! I had only gone 10ft from the bank when it tipped me in. How folk made a living salmon fishing from them? Must have had a very hightened sense of balance.
  14. Have you been in one? I had a big issue with one tipping me in.
  15. Waitrose Mexican Lime is up to Rose's standard imo.
  16. Had to use it in anger on the window in a rented caravan when we were up on the Solway wildfowling and it did indeed effect a cure. For permanent repair I like Dow Corning Geocel Marine Sealant. Will cure under water etc and it is available in small quantities. Unless doing a large job I find however well I seal the tube after use when I come to use it again it has set solid.
  17. You could compromise by selling both the boats you have and buy a new Haines 32 Offshore. Perfectly capable of crossing to Holland to explore Freisland and onwards to the Baltic but equally at home on The Broads. Only saying so because if I could, it would be my choice, RCD cat B, single and twin engine options. Choice of layouts, wood finishes etc. I can only think what if our retirement had not come to such a tragic and premature end.
  18. Between my sons and I we have owned 5 Seats and never had a problem. My last was that real Seat colour of the early 2000s. Congratulations and happy motoring.
  19. yuasa_batteries-1.pdf I hope that this is "The Yuasa Little Red Book of Batteries" a good publication. If not it is worth a google.
  20. I had a Nasa BM1 battery monitor on my last boat and it was a good indicator. However I swear by my digital Fluke Multimeter for electrical install testing. It was not cheap but it is now coming up to ten years old. In that time I have returned it twice for calibration, a professional would most likely calibrate yearly.
  21. This seems to be the story of my life these days. I go months with nothing on at a weekend then this event that I would have driven to clashes with the 24hr Le Mans style race for 2CVs at Snetterton.
  22. Cut the brought in buffets and make everyone bring in their own sandwiches. That shortens meetings. Also get rid of all chairs in the meeting rooms, standing shortens meetings.
  23. Traffic lights. Would also break up the traffic making the right turn out of the B1152 much safer.
  24. Peter, neither do I, you have run Businesses in the Broads, would you have done so with two accounts that never the twain should meet?
