  1. Webley and Scott also made a bolt action .410 with a magazine like a rifle so it was possible to be a 3 shot. They also used the same action modified for rim fire in their 9mm, 3 bore garden gun. Anshutz were the other big makers of 9mm shotguns very useful for ratting and inside barns as they would not cause structural damage. The vast majority of 9mm shotguns were consigned to be scrapped because their barrels were mostly less than 24" and hence became unable to be licenced as a shotgun and were subject to FAC.
  2. Very Autumnal, great picture.
  3. Lux was traditionally the biggest pure soap flake seller. It is still available in Australia. I saw it in both Woolworths and Coles supermarkets.
  4. Just in case anyone is worried.
  5. By BA , I am sure EastCoastIPA is refering to British Airways not our own organisation controlling The Broads.
  6. I had Century Plus motors on my Seawych and a Folkboat. Never failed to start second pull after a tickle and full choke from cold. The secret with Seagulls is always run the carb dry but the later models could be re-jetted to allow 25:1 instead of 10:1, this transformed the engines. For a short period they went 50:1 but it was a step too far and they suffered alot of crank bush failures.
  7. The trouble I see with these deals is there is virtually zero brand support as they are mostly sold via one dealer/importer and who is to say he will be around tomorrow. I will stick with Mercury/Mariner/Tohatsu, Yamaha or Honda with their established dealer network.
  8. Loads along The Thames Valley from Maidenhead all the way to Oxford and beyond. There are flocks of these chaps between Cookham and Henley as well.
  9. Research suggests that there is movement between The Chilterns, Wales and The Black Isle. So sightings can be of birds in transit.
  10. They have a very good PR company working for them who sells the fact that they are exclusively carrion eaters with a few earth worms for afters. They will and do however take ground chicks such as pheasant and partridge and small mammals. Below where I used to live, in The Chilterns, the children of Wattlington primary had to stop eating their packed lunches outside as they thought the food was for them. I have seen them at East Runton, near to Trunch and Sidestrand here in Norfolk.

I am sure you are correct, with nobody in attendance or inspecting the moorings they would leave themselves open to litigation. Their Public Liability does not stop with saying "at your own risk". Certain sports like bungee, skydiving and white water descents often require you to sign a legally binding "Liability Waiver" as At Own Risk notices are insufficient.

I have always thought that the area between Humberstone farm and Cobholm Island would be a great place to build a marina. The channel comes close to the south of Breydon there. It would afford excellent access south, north or to the open sea.
  13. Maybe some changes are on the way. Remember the business changed hands in 2016 and nothing much seems to have happened. I remember reading at the time that the new owners wanted to expand their drink at home business.
  14. I pay £56 per annum for a short term parking ticket, covers two vehicles letting me stay for 3 hours in any of NNDC car parks from Wells all the way round to Sea Palling. I parking in them nearly every day so quids in. Long term parking is £204.

Kingfisher, the OP is the gentleman behind trying to turn this Broadland disgrace into an amenity. He is fighting a nonsensical objection imho. On a personal note, I wish you every success Wehlau.
  16. Although "Time Share" has attracted bad press in certain areas it is a pity a really well financed, big player could not get involved. It would be great to be able to swap weeks with boats on other waterways and indeed in other countries. But I guess the costs involved would be too high.
  17. If the finances would allow, we always planned to retire early. I was lucky because part of my career was spent working for a paint company with a red propeller logo which at that time was part of Courtaulds who's final salary scheme paid in full at age 54! But it was still a hard call as retiring 10 years early does have a detrimental effect on pensions designed to be drawn at 65. However moving from a very desirable Chiltern Hilltop Village to North Norfolk provided a quite large six figure sum that helped. The Swiss arm of a German dishwasher to wind turbine company that I worked for asked me to stay for one more year on full salary for very few hours per week which prepared me for retirement nicely. I can honestly say we enjoyed every bit of our retirement, gardening, walking, boating, days out etc. In my present situation there is not a day goes by that I do not thank whoever or whatever made me retire early. Judith and I had 10 wonderful years together in retirement. Had I carried on until I was 65 we would have had 15 months before her terminal cancer struck. Strange writing this today as it is my birthday, 4 years over retirement age but I have already been off the treadmill for 14 years. I guess the fact that we married so young and had our two sons young also helped as both had completed university by the time I was 50.
  18. Cley Smokehouse used to do smoked eel. I am in Cley most weeks, I must give them a visit. Their smoked roe is wonderful as well.
  19. As long as no Temps, Consultants or any other outside help was used, then the cost was within their fixed overheads. Why proportion cost that they have to pay anyway when it is not recoverable, the work is for their own organisation. So it is not a falsehood to say only £3K has been spent.
  20. Isn't it strange how words play on our perception? Syndicated ownership has an air of respectibility where as "time share" sums up dodgy characters on Spanish Islands. "Vending" is another word like that, I worked in the industry for a while and we would indoctrinate staff to say "Automatic catering equipment" never "Vending".
  21. You know I had never thought of that. We had duplicates of all sots on our boat, toiletries, towels. Something to change into if it got suddenly warmer or colder. Wet weather gear. Seaboots, maps, bird book, radio etc etc. It is actually a bit off putting for me but I guess a big grab bag that does not get unpacked at home could overcome some of my objections.
  22. Smoked eel is my favorite way like the Dutch or fried in garlic and butter with artichokes like the French. However a pot of jellied with white pepper and a little malt vinegar and bread and butter is very tasty.
  23. The Jackdaw is a bird with a real affinity to man. If kept in isolation from other Jackdaws they can be taught to speak apparently though I have never heard one.
