  1. GOBA lease and look after something like 25 moorings along The River Great Ouse, mowed and maintained by volunteers. It is a pity that the NSBA has not got a cruising section on it's lines. However The RGO has many wild areas especially down stream and on the Old River and these moorings are totally without faciliies so you must have a self contained craft.
  2. I have been looking at Shepherd Huts in Dorset. The idea appeals to me touring on my own as the only thing I want is a bed and bathroom. There speaks the voice of youth with an as yet to enlarge prostate!
  3. Please read the original post again. I agree that the survey is totally flawed and most posters on here agree that and are defending The Broads. What most are saying is:- 1. The Broads cannot hope to compete with the likes of The Lake District. And 2. The Geographical nature of the Broads make them unsuitable to be a NP, unless the North Coast is included say from Weybourne to Brancaster.
  4. You have made me homesick for the Beech tree wooded escarpments of the Thames Valley and especially Temple Island. So much so that I have just booked myself 4 nights at the Danesfield between Marlow and Henley. Got a fantastic deal as well. The view from the rear of the hotel down to the river far below is wonderful.
  5. Here is a Breakdown but tourist statistics is not what this is about is it? It started as The Broads National Park's poor showing against other National Parks which it can't compete with. I bet Great Yarmouth accounts for one third of Norfolk Tourism and the North Coast's conservation areas anoth huge chunk.

    Lads Week

Glad you all had a great time and what beautiful weather for the second month of Autumn.
  7. It is known as pacing yourself. Actuall quite sensible if you are driving home next morning. A good nightime sesh an you are "Over the Top" for most of next day.
  8. I like their cream teas. Sometimes I walk right round Sheringham Park then undo all the good by pigging a cream tea!
  9. Let them burn if well alight. With gas bottles etc onboard. As long as all heads are accounted for, get away from them.
  10. Sorry to see poor Macie looking so poorly on your foredeck! She has gone downhill since the start of your holiday. She is a "funny colour" best try her with a bit of fillet steak.
  11. That is the whole thing. There is no boundary because The National Park exists in name only for promotional purpose. So it begs the question why not include the North Norfolk Coast and saltmarsh etc etc. It only becomes important should the area gain full NP status because it then directly impacts on people who live and work within. Whilst property within a NP tends to out perform other areas from a wealth generation perspective, there are downsides to living in one. Funny the way this thread has gone! I was the first to respond to the OP. I did so to defend The Broads from a survey it did not have a hope in hell of doing well in. Funny how people read into things!
  12. I wonder if the Horsey Beach and New Cut Drain was under a Drainage Board who's responsibilities were transfered to the BA in some way. It is a complicated area of BA, National Trust and Horsey Estate Trust.
  13. However Norwich thinks it is in a National Park, or at least Visit Norfolk does.
  14. PS. Does not indicate that Norwich is a city in a National Park as I have seen stated.
  15. To travel the NP, will I am afraid be a bit like doing the Okey Cokey, you will be in and out like a fiddlers elbow unless on the waterways. Herewith the BA's mapping. I have to say I find the West Somerton, Horsey, Waxham area interesting, reaching the coast and extending the whole length of the New Cut Drain.
  16. "I should think so too! Four boats of male only crew! I blame the hire boat company letting a bunch of bl**dy hooligans on the water. Good on the BA! Sends the right message.Move em on" I bet Neatishead's loss was Ludham's gain takings wise. The Rangers should see Yarmouth harbour IOW on August Bank Holiday to appreciate full moorings! Although I have heard they are not like they used to be on the advice of The Island's Fire Officer.
  17. I went to have a look at Horsey Staithe but could see no change so walked across to the Beach at Horsey Gap. Said hello to the Seals and then drove to Martham Staithe to eat my sand video.mp4 wich.
  18. I am not talking down The Broads, I don't think others are. I love Broadland and North Norfolk otherwise I would have not come to live here. The truth is you need to be afloat to appreciate them, that is a fact. Drive over Honister and gaze down on Buttermere. Scale Helvellyn via Striding Edge. Drive down the Llanberris Pass and walk up Snowdon on a clear day with Anglesey below and the Mountains of Mourne visible on the horizon even the views of the seven sisters in another less visited NP and looking down on the Arun Valley from Bury Hill on the South Downs Way. I am sorry but those are the views and experiences I associate with a NP.
  19. 7I never tried aluminium but as you say magnesium just vanished. The beauty of outboard power where anodes are concerned is you can tilt and give them a scrub to remove coating. The Broads owners tend to follow the hire industry and leave in all year. When sea sailing was my thing I slipped every winter for the duration as did nearly everyone I knew. Helped insurance wise as well.
  20. My Honda outboard that I kept at Broadsedge used to eat anodes, I would change then at least twice yearly. I made up my own Magnesium ones as a Zinc replacement but these were worse. I spoke to a very helpful chap at McDuff who explained that the use of Magnesium in fresh water means just that. So fresh and clear you could nearly drink it, virtually any pollution or slight salt content like the Upper Thurne and they will be gone in no time. The close proximity of so many boats packed in marinas and construction metal in the water on The Broads means regular anode inspection must be part of your maintenance regime. As an allrounder best to stick to Zinc and not flirt with Aluminium and Magnesium.
  21. With the exception of The New Forest all the others offer high dramatic scenery which conjurers up a NP to a lot of folk. In truth if you are not afloat The Broads does not offer a lot when compared to the market leaders especially for those seeking proper activity holidays.
