  1. Yes it would probably be Trimite. They were a family business based in Uxbridge, they had their own mixing scheme. They were very good industrial finishes.
  2. I am pretty sure that the Interspray Centres were dropped on the aquisition of International by Akzo Nobel from Courtaulds. The reason was Akzo had their rival under their Awlgrip brand which was a superior system, supplying custom hull colours and painting the likes of Oysters from new. Quite rightly as vaughan says temperature and humidity can be critical with two packs. On the subject of etch primers make sure that it is Chromate free. Chromate etching primers should only be used by those trained to do so with the appropriate protection as they can be highly toxic.
  3. Here you are Smitch, this may save a phone call.
  4. You used to be able to filter products ie starting with substrate on to filler primers and then topcoats. I would phone the help desk. The problem is if you do not know what it has been painted with before the only really safe way is take it off. But the helpdesk should be able to advise on a Multi-compatible sealer/primer, perhaps a high build epoxy which will require alot of rubbing back.
  5. Go onto International-yachtpaint.com and use their interactive technical facility or contact their technical team. When I worked for the Red Propeller many years ago tech support was paramount even for the DIY. What I will say is any finish is only as good as the substrate and how it is prepared.
  6. Whilst being historical and Navigational, I though some folk would like to see a map of "The actual Broads"
  7. 1907 OS courtesy of N.L.S shows Candle Dyke
  8. Or North Walsham to Great Yarmouth closed in 1959. Or the spur from Yarmouth Beach to South Town closed also in 1953.
  9. Anything to do with the old abandoned bridges on The Waveney? Haddiscoe, Beccles Bungay closed in 1953.
  10. As most people on this forum know my "Tipping Point" was losing Judih to cancer in November 2016. I kept the boat for 15 months but it was never going to be the same. I have to say that I am enjoying non- boat ownership. After doing our half acre garden, I always felt obliged to go to or use the boat, now I can go off elsewhere. I go for trips on the Wherry Yachts and Thames Barges and I will probably hire from Martham and just stay above the bridge. I have been tempted but will henceforth will resist ownership.
  11. I would just say that boat ownership when you live where your boat is moored is very different from when you have to travel to it. It is no longer your "Escape" or your "Holiday Home". On balance I think we enjoyed our boat more when we were at work and travelled from Buckinghamshire to Wareham each weekend in summer and for holidays. The Chiltern Hills will forever be home to me, they were for 55 years. However even in widowhood I will not move from my home in North Norfolk while I am fit to stay here. I can be at my son's house in Bucks in 3 hours and with my other son in 48 inc an overnight at Heathrow. If my wife had not fallen victim to cancer then I would not have been here as it was our intension on very early retirement to move every 5 or 6 years and do different things. In fact when my wife was first diagnosed we were negotiating to buy a penthouse in Rustington that would allow us to "lock and leave" in order to spend our summers exploring mainland Europe by car. If still active Snowdonia or The Lake District could then have been on the cards. But as the say " you don't know what is round the corner"
  12. I don't know the correct name for the staithe but always assumed the village sign acted as a directional sign post. Now I am not so sure???
  13. There is no pub where the flag is on the map. There was at least two pubs in Barton Turf and Pennygate not counting the first cottage on the right as you go up the lane that served beer but you are talking years ago.
  14. I think that the design of the road has to be viewed in the context of the housing developments that are planned along it and it's intended purpose which is as Distributor Road, not an Expressway.
  15. The BBC also broadcast SOS messages for people on holiday etc to make contact for over 70 years with the news. It had all the "formatting" and precision of other broadcasts like the Shipping one. On the subject of mobile phones, I had my first in 1985 it was by Racal Vodaphone and when you took it out of your car it was like carrying a car battery. By 87 I was using a Motorola/Storno famous brick. Trouble was not many others had them but you did not have to get out and use a phone box when travelling. On a personal note the effects of Monday 19th October 1987 would have been even worse if I had not had mobile communications.
  16. There is a Chinese Proverb "He who rides a Tiger can never dismount"
  17. Looks like a ball of bait fish to me before a very large guy with big teeth up the food chain strikes
  18. I can think of at least three members who will agree with me but there is only one company if you are a serious boater, for heating and cooking. Taylors! Origo were also pretty good until swallowed by caravan outfitters. But Taylors last a lifetime.
  19. I actually only put the clip in for the 1 million houses. I million houses along a dualled road in a North East direction from Oxford to the improved A14 means the end of Norfolk and North Suffolk as we know it. Frankly the Oxford, Bicester, Aylesbury amd Milton Keynes area is wrecked already. We will be next.
  20. Unless I live to be 100 the worst effects of the "Brain Corridor" as it is being called will not effect me. However apart from special fens etc. I had not realised that the plan is for 1 million new homes along the Oxford to Cambridge Expressway by 2050. No I could not believe it either but that is what is being planned 1 million new homes. The knock on effect on Norfolk and Suffolk will be huge.
  21. Once upon a time! But seriously once the Oxford to Cambridge Expressway is a reality the Southern Rivers will be a day out or a long weekend for so many more. I can see Norfolk being "Rammed" great for many, good for business, but the face of Norfolk will change for evermore.
  22. Even adding the two of them together probably would not equal how old Lobby Lud would be.
  23. GOBA lease and look after something like 25 moorings along The River Great Ouse, mowed and maintained by volunteers. It is a pity that the NSBA has not got a cruising section on it's lines. However The RGO has many wild areas especially down stream and on the Old River and these moorings are totally without faciliies so you must have a self contained craft.
