  1. I think yesterday put me in the holiday mood. I should have been tending my acres but went to Wells and visited the exibition at the new Arts Centre. I then walked the Sculpture Trail. (Not quite up to Sculptures by the Sea between Bondi and Bronte but not a bad first effort) This should give you a flavour:-
  2. I was standing on Norada's foredeck with the sun on my phone screen could not see a thing. Had a look over Ardea when we got back, certainly a big old ship. Yes 4G on river Ant, never thought I would see the day.
  3. I think that if they had left it as a dual carriageway going into the roundabouts and not gone into three lanes, and not had the raised separation bits near the eastern Postwick end it would be fine. When I have used it, twits, get into the third lane, when going straight over, which is obviously designed for those turning right, to try to steal an advantage over the rest going straight on.
  4. Today was my last wherry trip fom How Hill on Norada, returning to base at Barton House, Wroxham. As you will see from the pictures it was a good trip for wherry watching! Ardea came past us like a train just past Salhouse. She had left GY at 0830 but she was and had made use of her diesel as winds were not favourable sailing west today. Also past Broad Ambition between HowHill and Ludham Bridge.
  5. From the foredeck of Norada 10.30 just south of How Hill
  6. Yes I think you have got the gentleman, I am thinking of anyway.
  7. I thought that I saw his boat early in the year moored on the staithe in front of the cottage but on the opposite bank, but I don't recall seeing him. I believe he wintered with his sister in the Kings Lynn area.
  8. Perhaps my wording Marine Mortgage Market has been taken too literally. Companies in Marine Finance behind big brokers and distributors can also take a simplified legal charge on the vessel. As long as it is not subject to a marine mortgage, if that were the case then their legal charge would be a second charge and not carry protection until the mortgage was settled.
  9. Marshman, I did not say all new boats would be funded by a marine mortgage. I was taking about two boats in particular. NYA is different from run of the mill hire companies. NYA have millions of pounds worth of boats on their books that are in their name and earning not a penny until sold. How else do you finance part exchange involving £100K+ boats. A hire companies bank may well finance a new build because they see an income stream perhaps without the need to secure the loan against the boat. The two boats that I was refering to are also £300K+ boats so also a bit not run of the mill. I was merely trying to demonstrate that £3000 per week was not unreasonable given the facts, each company has it's finance arrangements.
  10. Certainly looks the "Business" hanging in the slings. A really good job by all of you.
  11. Chambre Attenante? Chambre avec salle du bain? But I agree, luxury for two only, you don't want to be making up beds for that money.
  12. Which falls on the 23rd September (my birthday) is already making itself felt this morning here on the Norfolk North Coast. It is just past high tide at Wells and just before Blakeney.i
  13. I was refering to Moneypenny, not the boat here which actually I think for a hire boat is a good design for all types of weather. It would do well in Ireland where it can go from monsoon to not a cloud in the sky twelve times a day and bridges have more clearance.
  14. I will probably be hung for this, but I am pleased to see a "Top End" offering on The Broads. However I do think that too many 40ft+ cruisers could pose a problem on the Northern River System.
  15. Moneypenny is a Haines Elegance is it not? With an initial price tag quoted of £315K the hire rate reflects that. Furthermore NYA will not own these boats, her papers will be in the hands of Lombard North Central or a similar company that is still in the marine mortgage market. Boat finance is not low risk and interest rates will reflect the many failures in the market over the last ten years. You have three companies in the supply chain before the hirer goes onboard, Haines, NYA, and the Bank, The hirers have to provide a profit to all three and pay off the capital sum to the bank.
  16. Common practice in The Med when mooring stern on. If no bow mooring buoy deploy anchor. However should you have to pull away again you need to lift it quickly. I think it would be a very good idea if two handed but difficult single helmed. Personally if it is quiet I would just go along side first and have a look and a think.
  17. Stern on at the end T section would have been difficult today in the breeze, very exposed. Here are some shots showing the temporary path to the pontoons and the dam.
  18. Google his name followed by electroal roll. You should then get 192.com saying how many they have. If you then look on their list it will give you their age and years on roll and the area. It helps if his name is not John Smith. But the age helps narrow the field.
  19. Starcraft are my favourites especially some of the later designs from the pen of Leslie Bates. I saw a beautiful 45 for sale at Chichester yacht Haven in 2015. Many have a history to them as they were favoured by the rich, stars of stage and screen and some of the 60's music stars when the Thames Valley was very much more of a playground than it is today. The days of Skindles at Maidenhead and Skinners Nightclub at Henley. Starcraft have a brilliant owners club, here are a few from their pageslooking for new guardians. I suppose they were the Thames "Riva" for the smart of the 50s and 60s
  20. Didn't know there were "Reds" around Doncaster... Some Roo-Bar! Still I suppose it is "Northern Territories"
