  1. I wonder if the Horsey Beach and New Cut Drain was under a Drainage Board who's responsibilities were transfered to the BA in some way. It is a complicated area of BA, National Trust and Horsey Estate Trust.
  2. However Norwich thinks it is in a National Park, or at least Visit Norfolk does.
  3. PS. Does not indicate that Norwich is a city in a National Park as I have seen stated.
  4. To travel the NP, will I am afraid be a bit like doing the Okey Cokey, you will be in and out like a fiddlers elbow unless on the waterways. Herewith the BA's mapping. I have to say I find the West Somerton, Horsey, Waxham area interesting, reaching the coast and extending the whole length of the New Cut Drain.
  5. "I should think so too! Four boats of male only crew! I blame the hire boat company letting a bunch of bl**dy hooligans on the water. Good on the BA! Sends the right message.Move em on" I bet Neatishead's loss was Ludham's gain takings wise. The Rangers should see Yarmouth harbour IOW on August Bank Holiday to appreciate full moorings! Although I have heard they are not like they used to be on the advice of The Island's Fire Officer.
  6. I went to have a look at Horsey Staithe but could see no change so walked across to the Beach at Horsey Gap. Said hello to the Seals and then drove to Martham Staithe to eat my sand video.mp4 wich.
  7. I am not talking down The Broads, I don't think others are. I love Broadland and North Norfolk otherwise I would have not come to live here. The truth is you need to be afloat to appreciate them, that is a fact. Drive over Honister and gaze down on Buttermere. Scale Helvellyn via Striding Edge. Drive down the Llanberris Pass and walk up Snowdon on a clear day with Anglesey below and the Mountains of Mourne visible on the horizon even the views of the seven sisters in another less visited NP and looking down on the Arun Valley from Bury Hill on the South Downs Way. I am sorry but those are the views and experiences I associate with a NP.
  8. 7I never tried aluminium but as you say magnesium just vanished. The beauty of outboard power where anodes are concerned is you can tilt and give them a scrub to remove coating. The Broads owners tend to follow the hire industry and leave in all year. When sea sailing was my thing I slipped every winter for the duration as did nearly everyone I knew. Helped insurance wise as well.
  9. My Honda outboard that I kept at Broadsedge used to eat anodes, I would change then at least twice yearly. I made up my own Magnesium ones as a Zinc replacement but these were worse. I spoke to a very helpful chap at McDuff who explained that the use of Magnesium in fresh water means just that. So fresh and clear you could nearly drink it, virtually any pollution or slight salt content like the Upper Thurne and they will be gone in no time. The close proximity of so many boats packed in marinas and construction metal in the water on The Broads means regular anode inspection must be part of your maintenance regime. As an allrounder best to stick to Zinc and not flirt with Aluminium and Magnesium.
  10. With the exception of The New Forest all the others offer high dramatic scenery which conjurers up a NP to a lot of folk. In truth if you are not afloat The Broads does not offer a lot when compared to the market leaders especially for those seeking proper activity holidays.
  11. Congratulations, it would have been 47 for us last May 15th. Good year 71.
  12. Just one question, not knowing the area very well. Is there somewhere close to park the car?

    Lads Week

A lot, it is opening time for The Locks! As in Pub not a thingy of canal persuasion.

    Lads Week

Where Locks Lane crosses the river and becomes a footpath at Geldesdon.
  15. Some time ago, Boats.com produced this list of camping cruisers. Personally I remember some words of A.C, Stock in "sailing just for fun" where he says ho much more pleasant is his 16 foot cruiser than being under canvas. I must say I have always prefered a lid, to sleep under, however small and extend it with canvas over the cockpit.
  16. It will undoubtably be a great improvement not only as a much needed sea defence but restoring the beach that has not rebuilt in the normal way of things after the N/NE storms of early 2018. Apparently some of the offshore shoals that not only feed the beaches, but protect them along that section as far as Horsey were seriously depleted in the storms so they have not repaired themselves, walking at Happisburgh last week there is much clay substrate still exposed. I will miss the apron for fast walking exercise however.
  17. I walked from Cable to Rudram's Gap after breakfast and came across this new notice. Sorry for it being in 4 bits but sun was shining on it, could not see phone screen and had to eliminate as much as possible shadow. Apparently a new car park is being built as they are expecting a boom time as folk come to watch the pumping process. Downside is the concrete apron if you know it will disappear under the sand.
  18. Hi Chrissy, and welcome. If you could aim for 45ft loa and a 12ft beam you would be the same size as the large hire cruisers and not suffer any restrictions.

    Marina Quays

I was told today that the two main objections were the height of the proposed buildings and footpath access but I know nothing else. Has anyone heard how the meeting went? My understanding was the BA planning team would be in attendance.
  20. I had a Retriever called Benson, he would "Peg" a bird as soon as look if you were not on his case and he sensed you were not looking. Unusual for the breed he liked a scrap as well. My late wife, Judith used to say she thought he had a bit of Collie in him. In fact she used to say " where's that Golden Collie of yours". He was a shoot dog with no papers so she could have been right. (His paws were a tad dainty as well).
  21. I thought this was a friendly arena. We are now slanging off other members because in the main they are supportive of the BA. Perhaps some members prefer not to take sides in what has been spun away from James's original stand point based on how the BA conducts itself,to personalities, percieved conduct etc. Personally I think the Broads Authority have handed the whole affair in a very amateur fashion, which is very regretable and worrying. But let us keep to the matter in hand and not make people feel that they are banished because they are not one of the anti-BA clique. Again on a personal note I think if this forum becomes a pressure group it could have a very negative outcome.
  22. It sounds like it was a really good day. Actually your costs that you mentioned are very reasonable for a good Partridge day. The more so as Partridge shooting is being snapped up due to there being no driven Grouse this season as a consequence of the " Beast from the East " and the dry summer bringing a plague of "Ticks". The loss of a Grouse Season must be devastating some moorland economies.
