  1. you can get the cards from the rangers, or the BA offices as well as some other outlets. I know the little office at ranworth does them, if you phone up the BA head office they will take a payment and send you some in the post. If you are hiring you would need to check that the boat has shore power capability and make sure there is a cable before leaving
  2. generally its sawdust, as the water rushes into the boat it picks up the sawdust, which bungs up the hole, as the planks take up, this will naturally squeeze back out
  3. oy, I resent that remark, it was the greeks, not the vikings.
  4. malwarebytes and other anti virus software slowed my computers to the point they were not useable, I do run one of my laptops with no antivirus, and have never had a problem with it, (it does run an obscure linux version though)
  5. according to my win 7 computer, defender updated its virus list earlier today., so it obviously still is supported
  6. well looking on my win7 machine its running microsoft security essentials, which is built in, but doesnt appear on the program list, its in the taskbar off down the right, it also appears from the list in control panel

I have attached a pdf I have created, showing what I think are the cleaarances (based upon the herbert woods side height gauge and extrapolating down from there) this would just be a starting point whee you could plot the heights of various parts of your boat onto a piece of tracing paper and then try matchig it (the graph paper is calibrated to the drawing so that if you plot the points with a degree of accuracy it will give you a good idea, so for this multiple measurements could be taken and plotted on the chart and matched to the bridge shape. This is still purely at an experimental stage, so I accept no responsibility if you plot it and then dont fit (though any feedback would be useful) PH Bridge Clearances.5 to ft.pdf

for wroxham and potter heigham bridges its not just your maximum height that comes into play, but the height at the widest point or most sticky out point, the pilot has told me I need 6'3" with water rail at potter heigham, yet I have been through wroxham bridge at 6'5 with about 5" to spare at most points, but then I am not about to dispute the pilot at potter heigham either..
  10. many moons ago I worked as a double glazing designer, and while some aluminium sections were designed to be reversible (ie the rebate the door sits in was a separate entity to the frame, this really only applies to high end industrial double glazing, so it may be possible, but is unlikely without rebuilding completely the frames, alternatively if the frame is just the door, you may be able to take the complete frame out and reverse it, but that may well reverse the handing of the door at the same time.
  11. The issue as I see it is that broads bots do not have the roof area to hold enough panels for sustainable cruising, and that we dont have the sunshine in enough quantity to guarantee a full charge, even if there were enough panels, I can see on the canals with bigger roofs and the ability to stop for several days on a mooring until you are fully charged it might work, but on the broads with only 24 hour moorings and less roof space, I dont think its viable. I recall seeing a narrow boating youtube video where a trial was carried out, and they said that even with a roof full of panels it would take them 3 days to replenish the batteries after a full days cruise.
  12. I believe all fire exits are required to open outwards, I know they are for buildings and would suspect the same is true for boats
  13. because in series after the keel cooler, it wouldnt get hot water.
  14. We have moved this topic into the members area as it is basically a request from old members into the whereabouts of other old members- so better suited in the members area. we would also like to remind people that cross posting posts and screenshots from other forums is specifically against tos here so would ask you refrain from doing so, if people want to go find out, they will have to join the other forums and search for themselves. Thank you
  15. I will agree with meantime, I did a late crossing and managed 5 mph into the incoming tide on breydon, headed north, then caught the end of the flood up the bure, this was about 1 1/2 - 2 hours before high tide.
  16. in that respect i like water rail, you can have the roof up, but leave the sides off and the screen down, if rain is blowing straight in through the screen area i raise the screen and leave a 4" vision slit at the top.
  17. yes, mine arrived in the post this morning too.
  18. Well thats very helpful of the BBC, dont you just wish they would stop reporting in such an alarmist manner, at this rate they will start another round of panic buying . (I am lucky, I topped up on bog rolls the other week and got a 24 pack) i bet shopping will be fun saturday.
  19. for goodness sake, can we ask that members take care of themselves and try not to get injured, at this rate we will get a bad name. says the person who owns 4 black cats that are constantly trying to get underfoot.
  20. from what I know, its only the ridge that needs replacing every 10-15 years, the bulk of the roof should last about 40 years as long as the ridge has been properly maintained, this might vary with the quality of material used and the proficiency of the thatchers.
  21. Though I am thinking she may need to be a deck fitting rather than on the couch.
  22. We are already covered in that department CC
  23. if not I will have to make a 1/12 scale flat iron and heat it up and iron it that way.
