  1. After 3 days of polishing, 1 left to do
  2. All the time they continue to believe section 2(1) and 2 (7) allows them to do whatever they want it certainly will.
  3. Well thats good news at last, the garage have just called, the 3rd new ABS unit arrived friday afternoon, it has been fitted, taken to Volvo and successfully recoded, eliminating all the fault codes and warning lights, now my garage need to bleed the brakes, and redo the MOT and with any luck I should have a car again in the next day or so. the repair shop took their time before sending this unit out to make sure it functioned correctly so soon my enforced carlessness will be at an end (my daughter has already booked me for a lift friday) tomorrow will mark 2 months and one week exactly without the car.
  4. unlikely as there is just no return on investment, you are not allowed to charge more for the electricity than it cost, so where is the incentie for suppliers to install them, now for EV charge points its slightly different, as you can charge a usage fee on top of the energy cost, and with EV chargers there is enough traffic to break even, but realistically, a boat sat on an electricity point is barely going to use a few kw per day. so you dont have the usage required for a return on investment.
  5. most yards will do the pumpout for you, the waveney river centre has a diy pumpout where you put a token in but need to connect the machine to the boat (they will show you how to connect up if you ask).
  6. I think the important thing to note is that both the forum and Craigs Database are being run purely by volunteers in their spare time, this inevitably means things progress slower than they otherwise would be as they are fitted into those quiet moments in peoples lives. how to publish timescales when at any moment life or (sorry for swearing here ) Work intrude upon the time available. the important part is that the hosting of the database is sorted so it wont just disappear, the data is safe. I dont understand much, but I do understand that keeping the current iteration of the database up to date with new data would require specialist knowledge so would be outside the realms of most of us - this will be made easier with the new database I understand, so the experts we have who are working on the new system in their spare time, are the same people who would be spending time adding new information to the old system, which would slow down the work on the new. so while on the surface it doesnt seem that much is happening, below the surface they are paddling along frantically to achieve that smooth serene swan like glide on the surface.
  7. A fair bit more achieved today, though the pillar still has work to be done
  8. theres a site called spaceweather that sends out alerts for stuff like aurora
  9. you can flip the view in google earth to look outwards too.
  10. dont worry, you are not alone, I am on the tech team and i still struggle sometimes- we use a hosted forum, and for any major issues just call the hosting company and ask them to fix it. though it does mean the forum can go offline at strange times (when they consider its the middle of the night and nobody will notice, but its 6am here.)
  11. well done Marge and Parge, it is indeed parts for a set of stands for displaying the model. the pad parts will have felt pads glued on and will be able to pivot to adapt to the hull shape of the boat
  12. actually i may have misled you, its located a bit further north, near a famous wheel lock - a Jem of a company
  13. Right, for the next bit of work, I did have to decamp to the unimat 3 and even that struggled, putting an internal radius on a part isn't easy as at some point your tool will be cutting all the way round the edge of the curve, the flexispeed definitely wasn't having it at all, even going gently the unimat was on the edge of its capabilities, but I got the corners cut in for a nice radius.
  14. and dont forget, if you need a kubota part (ie a part not subject to the marinisation, then there is a kubota parts place somewhere in yorkshire that will sell you the part a lot cheaper than the marine parts supplier will.
  15. Grendel- Water Rail 1 attendee Friday, Saturday
  16. Nope, the little flexispeed is more limited in what it can turn, and would struggle with harder materials, but this task is within its work envelope, and it sits on a shelf within arms reach of where i am working, should it start to struggle with the job, i will naturally escalate to the unimat 3, similarly should the unimat struggle I would escalate to the 13" south bend. the flexispeed is great for small items in brass (the 1" diameter parts I am putting the taper on are about the biggest it will manage, and at that I am needing to restrict myself to about 4 thousandths of an inch cut (0.1mm)
  17. Pah, who needs 37hp, water rail is 26 foot, made of wood ( so heavier) and manages quite well on the 3 cylinder nanni that may once have produced 19hp.
  18. Chipping away at this project, more parts being made on the mill and on the lathe ( this lathe is the little flexispeed I inherited from a very good machinist friend, this was one of two tiny lathes he used when he could no longer manage to get in his workshop, and though small is finely tuned and produces good results on small parts.
  19. I have had a couple, the ones I had were aluminium bodied, and in my hot tub (chlorinated water) lasted just a month or two each, if you have a mains supply, a cheap pond pump works just as well. so brackish water would probably eat the aluminium too.
  20. The next part will be a mystery part, here you see work in progress on the part.
  21. I am lucky, with a the centre cleat, and b the rhond anchors in the step to get out of the cockpit, so everything can be got to easily even if its a last minute decision, that and i always bring all of the ropes to the centre cockpit when I cast off.
  22. for me, the technique is to step ashore with 2 ropes and 2 rhond anchors in hand, the front rope led via the centre cleat, this is the first one to get in fixing the middle of the boat to the bank (if there is anything to tie to, this will be tied to it. then the stern rope is fixed, after this i unpin the one from the centre cleat (or bring a second bow line ashore, and put that in place (this can mean I am using 3 rhond anchors)) after this is several minutes making sure the anchors are in properly and the ropes as I want them with the boat approximately 1 foot off the bank all the way along.
