  1. well done Marge and Parge, it is indeed parts for a set of stands for displaying the model. the pad parts will have felt pads glued on and will be able to pivot to adapt to the hull shape of the boat
  2. actually i may have misled you, its located a bit further north, near a famous wheel lock - a Jem of a company
  3. Right, for the next bit of work, I did have to decamp to the unimat 3 and even that struggled, putting an internal radius on a part isn't easy as at some point your tool will be cutting all the way round the edge of the curve, the flexispeed definitely wasn't having it at all, even going gently the unimat was on the edge of its capabilities, but I got the corners cut in for a nice radius.
  4. and dont forget, if you need a kubota part (ie a part not subject to the marinisation, then there is a kubota parts place somewhere in yorkshire that will sell you the part a lot cheaper than the marine parts supplier will.
  5. Grendel- Water Rail 1 attendee Friday, Saturday
  6. Nope, the little flexispeed is more limited in what it can turn, and would struggle with harder materials, but this task is within its work envelope, and it sits on a shelf within arms reach of where i am working, should it start to struggle with the job, i will naturally escalate to the unimat 3, similarly should the unimat struggle I would escalate to the 13" south bend. the flexispeed is great for small items in brass (the 1" diameter parts I am putting the taper on are about the biggest it will manage, and at that I am needing to restrict myself to about 4 thousandths of an inch cut (0.1mm)
  7. Pah, who needs 37hp, water rail is 26 foot, made of wood ( so heavier) and manages quite well on the 3 cylinder nanni that may once have produced 19hp.
  8. Chipping away at this project, more parts being made on the mill and on the lathe ( this lathe is the little flexispeed I inherited from a very good machinist friend, this was one of two tiny lathes he used when he could no longer manage to get in his workshop, and though small is finely tuned and produces good results on small parts.
  9. I have had a couple, the ones I had were aluminium bodied, and in my hot tub (chlorinated water) lasted just a month or two each, if you have a mains supply, a cheap pond pump works just as well. so brackish water would probably eat the aluminium too.
  10. The next part will be a mystery part, here you see work in progress on the part.
  11. I am lucky, with a the centre cleat, and b the rhond anchors in the step to get out of the cockpit, so everything can be got to easily even if its a last minute decision, that and i always bring all of the ropes to the centre cockpit when I cast off.
  12. for me, the technique is to step ashore with 2 ropes and 2 rhond anchors in hand, the front rope led via the centre cleat, this is the first one to get in fixing the middle of the boat to the bank (if there is anything to tie to, this will be tied to it. then the stern rope is fixed, after this i unpin the one from the centre cleat (or bring a second bow line ashore, and put that in place (this can mean I am using 3 rhond anchors)) after this is several minutes making sure the anchors are in properly and the ropes as I want them with the boat approximately 1 foot off the bank all the way along.
  13. It does seem a shame that the insurance companies no longer believe in brand loyalty, so you need to shop around for the best price every year, they obviously dont realise that if they offered the best price to existing customers and a slightly higher premium to new customers, that year on year they could increase the prices little by little and make a much greater profit - perhaps its good that they dont realise this, after all a certain authority has been pricing this way for years- and still gets away with it.
  14. I see a couple of the Marthams fleet are stuck the wrong side of Potter Heigham Bridge, but if Ludham is down to 7 foot, i doubt even Marthams can get them through potter heigham (I have been taken under with less than 5'10" at PH.)
  15. I seem to recall there was a survey done by the BA a year or so back, so maybe thats what they are referring to
  16. would this mean that if the Broads Authority were to use their power to request the name of a hirer from the hire company under a bylaw breach for the purposes of a civil prosecution under an MCN, that this would be a breach of GDPR (or any other laws)? and would seriously compromise their case against an individual?
  17. the service on planar / autoterm ones is excellent, we had a service engineer drive out from north wales to meet us at oulton broad the other year on lads week (aboard Broad Ambition)- we ended up with a replacement as there was an internal connection fault, these are a mid range price between the cheap chinese and the expensive webastro/ eberspacher ones. https://planarheaters.co.uk/ priced between about £600 and £1000 depending on which one you want (thats for a complete kit)
  18. I used to clear my old freezer with an air hammer (smallish one) it did the required job and only once did i put it through the plastic at the back, that freezer has since been retired from use. failing that just put a bowl of hot water in the bottom and let it melt out, you will need to keep refreshing the hot water.
  19. A bit like the new Marthams boat.
  20. oh dear, having fitted the new ABS pump, and had the pump ECU coded to the car by volvo, I thought it would be a quick matter for them to bleed the now functional system and return the car to me, however after performing all the above tasks, the car is still throwing the ABS codes, and wont clear- so back to volvo, who are now saying that the pump part of the newly refurbished ABS unit is faulty, now we are back into a back and forth discussion with the ABS repair company we are also awaiting delivery of a new bracket that holds the ABS pump from volvo, as the old bracket was lost with the pump by DHL. more waiting while this latest issue is resolved, of course until they can clear the codes, they cannot pass it through the MOT- the wait resumes.
  21. we sed 80 litres on Broad Ambition over lads week, but we also did 5 hours more cruising than the other 2 boats (to and from the wet shed) and we were against the tide quite a lot during our week (and certainly tuesday when we had to get from cantley all the way to griffs corner, so despite the tide against us were on the speed limit all the way (we did pass 3 boats on the lower bure that seemed to be struggling against the tide, but the 2 symphonies have the same engines as BA does (though she has the 4 blade prop)
  22. Front screen hinge pin removed to enable the glazing to be done.
  23. sad that i had to drop out half way through, but i couldnt keep my eyes open, we had an early departure from Horning yesterday morning and a bit of night navving in the rain at 6.30am when taking Broad Ambition back to the wet shed.
  24. Actually, I was aboard Broad Ambition, so didnt get to see inside much, they do have the same engine as BA, and were better at keeping up, other than the gas bottles needing replacing, we didnt have any issues, the lads did have a look at the emperors when they returned to the yard, and it looks like we may be able to sleep 7 comfortably in those, I am told the saloon area in the symphony happily accommodates 7 sitting around chatting on those 'wine tasting evenings'. I did manage to take Broad Ambition through Ludham bridge without incident on our way back to the wet shed yesterday morning, so I am pleased about that.
  25. in practice, it was the information staff member who moored the boat, after asking if we needed help, we answered in the negative at which point he grabbed the ropes and pulled us in, just I am sure so he could make the claim that he assisted us mooring. we needed no help, in fact he almost pushed one of our fellow lads week crew to one side to get the rope first.
