  1. Hylander, as far as i can see your access rights are all working properly, so you should be able to see all of the forum, when you say you can get this far, can you see the technical help section but none of the rest of the forum? or are you still getting the error message coming up?
  2. I will have a look if the contact us message made it through tonight when I get back on my home computer that recieves those messages, but other than that we have had a few problems with people logging in since a recent software update, all we can do is remind people to clear their cache before trying again as generally the problem is the internet browser 'remembering' the page from last time and not operating correctly with the new software interface, so have a go at clearing your cache before trying again. sometimes a simple Ctrl F5 reload will do the trick. I have just tried all the different methods available to me to log in (the only one I cant try is the apple app) and they are all working fine for me. But I do realise that doesnt mean they are fine for everyone else.
  3. is it a way of saying all those new housing proposals they allowed on the flood plains will no longer be the fault of the planning authority, but an act of god.
  4. and its worrying to think i understood every wordlode of that garboilage.
  5. we had a converted transit parcel van and did a lot of touring with that, though one year we were on the isle of wight and had to hit the brakes, this was followed by a tidal wave to the front of the van as one of the water containers had leaked the contents into the back, cue a day of everything out of the van to dry at the campsite. as you say if camping when you want a trip out you need to pack everything up, - or carry a couple of bycycles on a carrier on the back. one work colleague used to tow a small car behind his to use for getting around when he had parked up for the week.
  6. I will have you know, I try and avoid dressing in red during December (especially visiting Garden Centres) the little kids 'whispering' "Mum, MUM There goes S*****a" gets rather tiresome.
  7. or leave an anchor light on so you can find the boat
  8. it might get treated to a car wash a couple of times a year though
  9. I havent fully cleaned a car since I cleaned the very first car I got and crashed it the next day, since then I might clean part of the car.
  10. yes but if they are leaving the bridge unmanned over the christmas period, they cant leave it open, or the operator would be stranded the wrong side of the river, is I think what is being said.
  11. Marthams have the isotherm fridges that run direct off the domestic battery bank, and are plugged in when you pick the boat up and stay on all the time, I have had a few times when I havent cruised for a day (generally at the may meets and wooden boat show weekends) and the fridge has just carried on, no problems no alarms, mind you on a Martham boat there isnt much else (other than the lights) that uses the domestics, I do love their plain and simple approach, basically I think they have sized the domestic power bank to run the fridge for several days without cruising.
  12. the forum has quite regular software updates, i would have to check if we have had one recently
  13. have you tried clearing your cache and then reloading, this will force you to log in again, but it might stick after clearing the cache (a handy trick is to press f12, ignore the panel that pops up, and then when you right click the reload gizmo at the top of the page it should give you an option clear cache and hard reload - this will just clear the cache for this website (rather than forcing you to log in to all your other favorite websites too.thwen when you have finished close the side or bottom panel that popped up when you clicked f12)
  14. which is why the hire boat yards should recommend the wearing of lifejackets to their crews
  15. I believe that people should have the freedom of choice to be wrong, society already wraps people in so much cotton wool that many people no longer recognise the risks they are being protected from, when i was young, if you did something wrong and hurt yourself, you learned to jolly well not do it. so on that basis i would say that wearing life jackets / buoyancy aids is strongly advised, but not made compulsory.
  16. how do you think they get rid of the rejects failed by quality control, for the ones they make for reputable manufacturers. rather than scrap them - sell them on for cost
  17. that would probably be a very very frightining thing
  18. I would just look on ebay for an old working reel to reel for as cheap as you can get, it will probably be cheaper than getting it done professionally
  19. at the end of the day, if its too much bother to go to to put on a lifejacket, then its down to personal choice, in my opinion, if you have an easy option to wear one, then it will be worn more often than having to spend an age getting it just right - then it becomes an active decision to wear one. If its easy then it will become a matter of habit.
  20. I see myself as a saviour to vegetarians, I eat the bacon, pigs eat vegetables so I am eliminating a major predator on the vegetables the vegetarians eat.
  21. Regulo, I accept that, if I was on a flappy thing with a boom that could knock me overboard and senseless, then i would reconsider my options, otherwise, I will take my chances, while I have had many knocks to the head in my likfe, none yet have rendered me unconcious, so I will live with the consequences of my choice, we all make decisions and take chances, whether it be crossing the road, driving the car, or cruising in a boat, as long as we have weighed the consequences, then we must be prepared to live with them.
