  1. this evening was fixing the parts I hadnt been able to previously a piece to thicken the back edge of the roof, and a beam in front of the bulkhead. a bead of glue was also run around the edges of each roof beam to strengthen up the joins.
  2. you could almost understand a fault on one bridge, but in recent times its 4 bridges and more if you count the ones in norwich, I was always told once is unfortunate, twice is a coincidence, but 3 or more is just totally unacceptable. (or enemy action)
  3. I thought I heard the barrier had been damaged, I suppose if there is no barrier the drivers will just drive over the edge
  4. I do hope that the costs incurred by the bridge not being able to be opened are being passed on to the bridge operator.
  5. they cant even go out through lowestoft at the moment either due to Somerleyton bridge being inoperable, all we can hope is that it raises awareness of the issues currently affecting the navigation.
  6. well I gave the glue an hour to go off (but not be too hard in case any had got where it shouldnt, then carefully removed the roof from the model and got some clamps on it again including the parts that i hadnt been able to reach, that stayed clamped up until this morning when I removed all the clamps, two more parts to add to the roof structure while in situ to get the spacing , then it will be trimming to shape.
  7. still hot in the workshop, I got home and opened all the doors, still 31 degrees when I came in just now. anyroad up, tonight was figuring out the roof, clamps went in to stop the frames dropping, and then the thin plywood was cut just oversize (will be trimmed up later) clamps hold the ply to the frames, and weights where I cant reach a clamp.
  8. Ah it appears the scout boat is still waiting on Haven Bridge. lets hope they are charging the port authority for the tugs sitting idle waiting for the bridge to open.
  9. perhaps they will need to go via somerleyton and mutford instead - oh no- I forgot that route isnt an option at the moment either.
  10. I cant remember seeing the notice of it re-opening after the last time they said it wasnt working, I guess Haven bridge must be working again as they got the scout ship through it.
  11. Well, though i still have 9 questions to find I do have a list of the rounds for the coming Friday night quiz 1. Heavens Above 2. Timber! 3. Held to Ransome T&P Break 4. The Vikings are Coming 5. Home Service 6. General Mayhem so its time to guess what the topics mean and do your research.
  12. I think I spotted somewhere a replacement for one that was rated at 300A
  13. only 20 degrees in the workshop early this morning, so I have been out progressing the work, its now up to 26 degrees (same as indoors), but I have added the mid position roof beams now, these have to wait until the glue has dried, before they are sanded (to make sure the roof is flat, the rear bulkhead also needs sanding down to match the roof, all progressing well at the moment.
  14. my problem will be avoiding watching any of them.
  15. well I have a vague idea of the topics and a few questions scribbled down, there should be some easy ones and some not so easy.
  16. getting cooler, 30.5 deg, second roof support section added, wider beams have been split for the intermediate roof supports.
  17. Well I have been putting this off as a weekend job, but somehow things have been getting busy at weekends recently, Having got my laptop back up and running on windows 10, it was time to look at the roof, the Aft cabin roof is easier than the forrard one so I am starting there. 10mm x 5mm teak strips were cut to length clamped to the sides and then the curved beams were also cut to length, 1/2 lap joints were cut and then with a piece of paper at the outside (to stop the glue sticking to the wrong thing and to give clearance) the beams were glued in place. at the moment its 32 degrees out in the workshop, so it will be multiple short trips out there to fit up the frame in the next section back, once the frames are glued up, intermediate roof beams will be added, then the roof skin will be added. then I have the more tricky front one to do.
  18. Well you could have knocked me sideways, apparently even though it was a clean install, windows has activated itself, reading online it says it can remember the motherboard, and activate the licence based on that being the same - durned clever these machines.
  19. I did have problems getting it to clone the screen over to the tv on HDMI, but in the end I managed to update the driver from the generic ms one and it worked straight off. anyway up and running, important software put on everything else can be done at my leisure.
  20. the issue was that the hard drive trashed itself, so its a new install on a new hard drive, not activated it, but it appears to be working, I will probably get a reminder, but it gives me time to deep scan the original hard drive partition and try and extract the license information from it.
  21. my day today will be once again rebuilding a laptop, I now have the windows 10 media for it, I just hope to be able to recover the serial number off the old hard drive or it will cost me for a new licence. the problem was that while it ran perfectly it wouldnt run the software for my 3d printer. then once windows has loaded, I will need to add my software again.
  22. unfortunately I forgot myself and got too many points.
  23. I know where there are some, but I dont think Griff will be parted from them.
  24. Sorry, I was just making a general point, not responding to your post, though I dont personally think you are safe from fakes even if you pay the full list price and go to a genuine retailer these days. I dont think anyone was attacking you, just disagreeing that it was just ebay and amazon. half the time I think the fakes come from the same factory as the real thing but are the ones that failed the quality testing.
