I had all sorts of problems getting a digital signal at home until I found out that because we were on a repeater the signal was oriented 90 degrees to normal, so try the antenna on its side just in case.
  3. it also means exercising the thing between their ears too. we used to live in a house on the apex of a right hand bend (the first bend in an s bend) there was a substation in the corner of our garden, and many a night the screech of brakes followed by a crump noise was heard and many a morning fresh damage was found on the sleepers positioned either side of the substation gates. you just got used to it.
  4. perhaps it should have a name change to The Phoenix.
  5. Now therin lies the rub, assuming that some of the drivers out there have intelligence and use it. after all we have seen drivers try and drive along the railway tracks at a level crossing because their sat nav told them to. so until this road and its roundabouts appears on all of the sat navs I suppose such accidents are to be expected. after all if the sat nav tells them they are driving across a field, who are they to question if it gets a bit bumpy as they cross the roundabouts.
  6. as an astronomer, I can state quite categorically that it takes about 30 minutes for good night vision to form, it takes about half a second to destroy that night vision. you wonder why so many salty sea dogs and pirates wore an eye patch, one reason was to preserve night vision in one eye when you had to go in a lighted area, if you were a lookout at night, you would need that dark adapted vision to see any problems. many astronomers use the same thing, an eye patch over their observing eye to keep out stray car headlights. we have a rule at our observing site that as you arrive you drop down to side lights to get onto the field and park, brake lights being red are not so much of a problem. I usually have no problem seeing where I am - even on a moonless night once my eyes have adapted. I used to have a friend who lived in the outback of australia that used to mix concrete by starlight, and had no problems at all- his nearest street light was outside the bar in the local town - 15 miles away.
  7. I think its like a lot of these scares, if bread were the only thing they were fed, then it might well be not good for them as they will need additional nutrients, and for bread here I am talking the cheap white blotting paper bread as we used to call it when I was little (my mum being the daughter of a master baker has baked her bread every other day as long as I can remember) proper bakers bread would be a lot better, but the important thing is variety, by all means give them bread, but give them seeds, grain and other bird feeds as well.
  8. I'm guessing, but there should be plenty of space where the engine and tanks used to be.
  9. Well the good news is that after topping up the expansion tank, and driving the 60 miles to work, the water level is still the same, the bottom of the joint in the pipes was slightly damp, but not actively spurting, but its good enough until the new hose arrives.
  10. then get 2 loaves of bread, slice in half and place either side of said Beagle, add a little american mustard, and your hotdog is ready.
  11. Ok, Charlie - I meant me not you (as the cat whisperer) sorry I confused you.
  12. yes the NBN cat whisperer
  13. for mine it was £5 for 1m hose, and £2 for the brass hose fitting, I already had some jubilee clips thanks to an assorted box from lidls.
  14. I would much prefer to find things like that before they get that bad.
  15. the hole - barely visible in the photos above, just above the off white line.
  16. engine cooled, the old pipe once disconnected is not in the best of condition, its not even a tight fit onthe connector, so a wide jubilee clip was used, this held one end of the connector, the next problem is there is a sharp right angle just before it fits to the car, the repair hose I have is straight, so it now tales an easy bend around to the joint. everything connected, water filled back up and off for a quick test drive. that completed and an inspection showing no leaks, and it looks like I am good to go for work tomorrow.
  17. well my day so far, a bit of a back story, the car has been losing water - not a lot, half a litre in a fortnight, then the low water light comes up, top up the expansion tank with half litre and its full again. anyway friday on the way home the light flashes up, I am 10 miles from home, so do I stop, wait until the engine is cool enough to open the expansion tank and top up, or keep an eye on the gauge and keep going - I did the latter. got home, no problem - ordered a set of radiator hoses. yesterday I topped up a litre, went shopping and did some running around. this morning, checked the water level its dropped a little - topped up went to the bootfair. on the way home the low water light appears, so arrived home popped the bonnet and there it is, a nice little spray of water coming from a heater hose. so a quick trip to halfords this morning to get a pack of silicon repair tape, and lo they have lengths of heater hose in stock, great that will fix me up until the new one arrives, ah but will it, my heater hose has a special fitting at one end, its crimped on, so my idea is to cut and join the hose to the old end, ah i hear you cry, how will you join it? a quick trip to b&q and a look around the plumbing department locates a 15mm copper pipe straight join, its not the most substantial thing, then its down to garden hoses, a perfect match, a brass joining piece, this fits the hose perfectly and is good and solid, it might restrict the heater supply slightly, but hey, I dont need the heating this weather. Just waiting now for the engine to cool down enough to do the work.
  18. good taking up vibes heading your way.
  19. Ib had a similar experience, except I was at infants school, one puff of an illicit cigarette was enough to leave me coughing and spluttering, I vowed that day - never again, and I never have.
  20. I would think that you could find a specialist tobacco shop and have a mix made up especially for you (a bit like a perfume blender)
  21. yes but what is the coffee like? And I bet Vaping there would be frowned upon.
