Hi Grendal, it was 3/4 inch pipe I was after . Its ok to ask for diameter in imperial but not length. I use this shop a lot as it is just round corner from boat. I have no issues with the shop, just a technical point I thought I would raise.

Called in the boat chandlers in Wroxham (you know the one where you are always greeted with a smile) for 4ft of plastic piping. Told that it has to be metric because the till doesn't recognise imperial measurement. Right then I will have one and a half metres. No you can have one or two as till wont recognise half a metre. The wonders of modern technology or someone doesn't know that half a metre is 0.5.

Went to the boat auction. was interested in a couple of outboards but had to be away before they reached them.. Used to split sale so you knew what time different items would be sold but just went through lot numbers. Probably done so people stayed until the end of the auction. Keep the best till last.

I have just witnessed the most blatant abuse of rubbish bins I have ever seen. Was on the car park near the Swan when a lady came down the road with a barrow full of bricks, tiles and wood. Where did she dump it, in the boat refuse bins. I know the local council pay for these bins but they are supposed to be for boat waste. This really is fly tipping. Obviously a local. I hope someone who reads this knows the person concerned as obviously having some work done.

Who's nicked the speed camera on the Wroxham Rd near the Green Man Pub .Suddenly disappeared. Wonder if it was put on wrong road. Not for sale on ebay yet.

Your information is very interesting Strowager. Good to see some real figures . My airdraft using Robins method is 6ft 8inches.Have had boat 2 years but not been under yet. Gives me confidence to try it now. Was always told gauge did under read.

What do members use the Barnes web cam for. The reason for asking this question is that a lot of the times the camera seems to be watching the guys working at Broads Tours. I wonder if they realise they are being watched. I personally use it to check river levels to see if I need to alter ropes, a good excuse to go to the boat. Also nice to see whos out and about.

On the subject of Chinese copies do any members know of anyone brave enough to buy one of the Chinese outboards on the market. I stand corrected but I have been told a lot of the gears are made of plastic

I still write letters and have always encouraged my family to do so. My daughters and grand children always write thank you letters after Christmas and birthday. I always send family cards by post as it is better than just handing one over. Someone did ask me once if I still use a quill pen.

I was always told they are Herring Gulls when I called them Seagulls

Having a cruise up the Turne tomorrow.

I use a small plug spanner on mine ,the outside is hexagonal in shape and it fits perfectly and as it has a T bar so easy to undo and tighten.

Anyone any ideas how to keep earwigs away.I always put conkers on to help keep spiders away but the boat seems to have been taken over by earwigs this Autumn. Perhaps its the lack of spiders causing the problem. I know its an Old Wives Tale but conkers seem to work for me.

Just what I had thought about putting on it.

Found a pulpit rail flag mast on ebay and luckily was only bidder on it so will try and set it to height of boat airdraft..All comments been very useful.
