  1. I think the heat’s beginning to get to folk! Thank goodness it’s going to cool down.
  2. I believe the signs showing the charges do quote a £2 charge for water which is of course included in the mooring fee if staying.
  3. Perhaps this issue (waiting at GYYS for bridge headroom) could be commented on by the Broads Authority? It is not really good enough to have to rely on encountering an understanding Harbour Master if some others refuse to be understanding. There should be a standard approach for all to follow. Crews must remain on board imo otherwise it would be taking advantage of goodwill.

    The Locks

Thank you guys, think I’ll stick to proper chips!

    The Locks

Nobody’s told me yet what dirty chips are!! ☹️

    The Locks

Seems to be a bit of a ‘marmite’ place from the Trip Advisor reviews. When I was up that way last month I didn’t think it looked as inviting as it used to and there was no menu on view from outside as there used to be. What are ‘dirty chips’ please?
  7. Ours is - for us! 🙂 Speedtriple has a point in that hire companies may try and sell a hirer something that may not suit them. I don’t know if they do, it is a long time since I hired but if it is a first trip then it will be a learning curve anyway. A second trip would probably be approached with eyes wide open, if the hirer has found this forum then better information is available. (Other forums are available too.)
  8. I do think Fred has a point here. For the past few years Reedham, and Somerleyton in particular, have been unable to swing in extra hot weather. No doubt there are those whose work commitments don’t allow them to forward plan but I’m sure there are those that could. I really can’t see why a railway bridge should be left open to allow leisure craft to cruise freely. I rather think many hirers choose the boat they do because of its looks and probably put up with the inability to cruise all of the available waters. I can’t see how hire yards could ever be held responsible for the weather causing problems and having to start giving refunds. Where boat owners are concerned, I believe it is very much a matter of choice and it is not up to anyone else as to whether or not a boat is considered ‘suitable for the Broads’. Only my opinion of course. I rather think it is nice to see all the different types of boat around.
  9. North or South Broads and for how long? Do you have a start date/day in mind?
  10. I think you’re being cynical again.
  11. WherryNice has it, taken from the staithe.
  12. It’s funny how different things look from above! If you hadn’t said the photos were of Loddon, I think I would have been scratching my head for a while. Great tale David, brought alive by the drone pictures.
  13. How about this one - where was this shot taken from?
  14. Actually Howard, you are right! To be exact, the photo is taken from a wild mooring on the right hand side of the river going towards Geldeston almost at the junction where one way goes to Rowan Craft and the other to The Locks. You can see a small area of riverbank with some trees overhanging and a very large bed of nettles over which you need to get your stern rope! It is a wonderful spot, very quiet and with a footpath to Geldeston and The Wherry Inn. Never a bling boat in sight. But please don’t tell anyone! 🤫
  15. Some may have but certainly not all. One that I am able to get to from time to time has, in the past, proved to be considerably cheaper than any of the main supermarkets. These days that’s not quite so true although the quality is very often better. Surely even you realise that Brexit is going to be used as an excuse for some price increases, particularly by unscrupulous vendors!
  16. I couldn’t agree more. No farm shop nearby and we aren’t at home enough to look after home grown ones. I like to call into Meale’s at Wayford when I am up that way although, sadly, it seems to have changed recently and is heading more into a gift and garden ornament retailer. I have noticed in recent years that some farm shops are charging unrealistic prices for local produce, I guess that may be something we will have to get used to with Brexit!
  17. I think two red flags at Somerleyton means the bridge will not open.
  18. It was the trunks, honest. 🤭

    Knotted

This is one knot I would love to learn, any chance of remembering how it is done? I have always done it this way, it’s useful if you have particularly long ropes. I am the ‘roper’ for our boat. I usually get off with both bow and stern ropes and my husband then joins me to complete the mooring up. I stunned him recently by tying the bow rope (clove hitch) one handed leaving him with nothing to do!
  20. Enjoy this lovely weather, you have picked a good week - now the thunder etc has gone!
  21. Another bizarre event today. Shopping in Morrison’s and looking at tomatoes. The usual array of salad, plum, vine, beef etc etc but only two varieties were British - Kent and Cheshire. Everything else came from Holland or the Netherlands (🤔 no, me neither!!). English tomatoes are so nice so why on earth can’t the supermarkets stock them? Before anybody mentions it, we sadly haven’t got a farm shop near us otherwise I would be there like a shot.
