  1. Noooo! It’s awful up there, there is a black hole that boats disappear into and are never seen again. 🤥 Best not chance it. 😁
  2. That’s somewhat of an understatement!
  3. Stanley Unwin eat your heart out!
  4. Now that’s my sort of ice cream. 😜
  5. A good number of boats have been bumped whilst moored up, if people feel they want ‘belt and braces’ that’s up to them surely?
  6. Part of our basic equipment is a doormat and also a trowel for shovelling said goose poo into the river!
  7. Might be something to do with the excellent food too.
  8. Pelican can currently be found at Stokesby. Making her way south maybe??
  9. I only ever wanted a drone to fly over to my next proposed moorings to see if there was a space! 😁
  10. I have seen La Hogue farm shop signposted and wondered what it was like. We would be unlikely to use the cafe but I would be interested to know how the farm shop compares with others.
  11. I wonder how many of us have ‘been there, done that’!! I can remember doing exactly the same about 30 years ago at the Herringfleet moorings. I woke during the night and instinctively knew something was not quite right. I can also remember, years ago now, arriving at Berney Arms to cross Breydon and seeing a smallish boat actually hanging from its ropes. All these things help to guide you for the future I think. I too like pontoon moorings, Hardley Mill and Oulton Dyke being two of my favourite places. Your first trip was an obvious success Helen, I’m sure February will come around quite quickly especially with Christmas and New Year to enjoy in the interim.
  12. from me too. I am looking forward to seeing how this thread progresses...........................😁
  13. I should add to my last post - not only excessive speed but excessive wash also. Just to clarify.
  14. There seems to be (judging from earlier comments) belief that this thread is about speeding. I believe it to be about excessive speeding, that which causes damage to the banks, wildlife etc and could be dangerous to moored boats and people. Remember, there are elderly folk and young families that use the waterways. It needs to be safe for all.
  15. I thought it was yours!! 🤭
  16. Hit the nail firmly on the head there I think! I have no idea what the handover instructions include these days but it should be part of them surely? It wouldn’t really take too long to explain to a customer that waves breaking over river banks or rocking moored boats should be avoided would it? 🤔
  17. I think maybe you have misinterpreted some of the comments ST. Only one suggestion has been put forward (that of ‘suitable GPS’ being installed in boats) and it has been pointed out that speed itself is not the problem. I can’t see anywhere where it has been suggested that boats should only be allowed to go with the tide or speedos (not the swimming trunk variety) should be ditched! This is a debate on boats that cause unnecessary inconvenience to others, admittedly a debate that rears its head fairly regularly.
  18. Non-reflective glass required?
  19. It’s not Gracie and Jay is it??? 😁 I know they’ve been picnicking too!
  20. How true Tom. My advice to any boater would be to keep a camera handy for these incidents. The really serious ones I would think are few and far between but if good evidence can be produced it must be helpful. Thank you for the Radio Norfolk details, I will try and catch up with that.
  21. I wish I could have heard that article on Radio Norfolk, it would be interesting to know what prompted it. Anything in particular or are they short of articles to report on?
  22. It’s when some moron does it deliberately ‘as a laugh’ and it becomes dangerous. As in a couple of incidents in June/July on the Yare. No joke when you become involved.
  23. Are dogs allowed on that beach Chris?
  24. I shall keep a lookout for good news then. It’s amazing what we Brits turn out to be good at!
