  1. At Potter yesterday morning the Martham boys were bringing the yachts through to the HW bank - about 7/8 to each boat at least. At one point there must have been about 8 yachts all getting ready for the off. I think they took a couple of cruisers back the other way too. There was a Herbert Woods cruiser moored on the Yacht moorings, he suddenly found himself penned in by a couple of yachts.
  2. Sounds a good plan. What with heavy rain and fairly strong winds forecast it wouldn’t be a very enjoyable crossing. Tomorrow looks a great deal better. Hope you have a good day today and find some of those things in Latham’s you never knew you wanted. I think many of us do!
  3. What language does he speak?
  4. Now that’s what I call a belt and braces explanation! Thank you Timbo, I shall never look at PH bridge in the same way again - it deserves much more respect. (And to be left as it is!)
  5. I wonder if the sluice gates above Coltishall have been opened?? Having said that, there is not a lot of variation between 9am and now along the Thurne. I do think Cal will be ok though, the number of ‘large’ boats from different boatyards on the Ant Thursday and yesterday must mean they’re getting through ok.
  6. Some riverbank that was under water at Womack yesterday evening at high water was not under at high this morning, maybe it hasn’t filtered up to Wroxham yet. I shall remain optimistic! 😁
  7. It appears to me that river levels have dropped considerably overnight. Here’s hoping they are now going to get back to ‘normal’.
  8. A whisker off 8’ at Ludham Bridge at 9am this morning. Low water is around 11.30am so looking a tad better I think.
  9. Actually Siddy himself said it! Very strange.
  10. Your views are as valid as the next guy! It is good to have opinions from someone who has a lot of knowledge of the Broads and I hope you continue to provide us with your ‘different views’.
  11. Just remembered, it’s a southern mooring required, apologies! 🤭
  12. Try Cox’s Boatyard at Barton Turf, there is a sort of lagoon area (for want of a better description) which has yachts in it. No facilities.
  13. 01502 730166 - telephone number for Langley with Hardley Parish Council. (From PC website)
  14. Both Langley and Hardley Dykes provide good private moorings - no facilities. I would suggest contacting Langley with Hardley Parish Council who could probably provide contact details.
  15. Looking on Herbert Woods webcam, the water at the 24 hour moorings looks very high. I see high water is not until around 2.30pm at Potter so there might be a real need for wellies today!
  16. This is why people are asked/advised to look at what their wash is doing, not just rely on speed monitors. It is the wash that does the damage to the banks etc. I would have thought the skippers’ manuals on board the hire boats would have such guidance in them. The byelaws cover matters of inconvenience to other river users which includes moored boats (such as at Reedham). As to sending pictures to the BA by way of proof of speeding, I believe the Authority has experts who are able to gauge the speed of a vessel from a photo by its wash together with the hull design. No escape these days.
  17. I do agree with that - wholeheartedly. Thinking about the Broom boats of today, the sedan styles really do create a lot of wash. That fragile environment mentioned above would suffer greatly as I have no doubt the helms would travel just as fast above the bridge as they do below it. Along with many others.
  18. Now that is a compelling argument from expilot. With that in mind, I hope Tom (BA) will respond to the question - what can be done to get more boats through PH Bridge??
  19. That is appalling service for a client from Barnes, not a good advert for them at all. I hadn’t realised Barnes do allow you to take their boats through, just as well otherwise you could have been stuck there for a couple of days! Well done.
  20. If your picture clearly showed the boat was speeding and chucking out a lot of wash, email it to the Broads Authority so they can act on it. I can assure you they will if it is clear enough.
  21. We tend to steer into the wash, going up and down is better than rocking from side to side! In our experience anyway.
  22. Objection your Honour - sexist remark!
  23. I don’t think that’s wholly true. Those boats designed and built in the 70s to transit all Broads bridges can still do so but not nearly as often as they used to. We need to establish why that is.
  24. I’m not sure that argument holds up. If I have a very large 4x4 that won’t go down some of our UK country lanes, that’s my fault surely? I need to change it for a mini - or buy a motorbike!
