  1. And that’s what gives them so much clout.
  2. “Colonel Thomas Sidney (or Sidley, or Sisney - these were times when spelling was not paramount) “ No change there then!
  3. I’m not jealous Cap’n, I know I will be able to share some more travels with you soon and and if not or will dull the pain in the meantime. 😆
  4. A very Happy Christmas to all and to those of you fortunate enough to be or over the next few days, may the winds be fair and the sun bright. Don’t feel you have to wait for the sun to be over the yardarm, go for it right now !! To all those not on the water, & to make up for it!! MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone.
  5. I always felt you actually did know Iain even if you had never met him. That’s the way it is with NBN, paths may never cross but familiarity and understanding is there in many instances. Not particularly well put but I think most peeps will know what I mean!
  6. Poppy clearly had a lovely life with you both, lots of nice memories I’m sure. Sad news, particularly at this time of year.

See what you mean about the side of the building. For one moment I thought we might be getting back that lovely long view up to the bridge from the boatyard but the camera carried on swinging. Hope they can sort it out.

I remember that you logged in and could then take control of the camera for a couple of minutes. Thereafter adverts of course. I can see how the webcams could attract hirers, there are always those that like to ‘go with the flow’.
  9. We used to moor there many moons ago. Always interesting wandering on foot to the staithe and boat watching for a while. When returning to our mooring, we used to regularly ‘race’ (I use the term very loosely) other boats towards the staithe and then veer off to our own spot! Nowadays we rarely go there.
  10. I would love to be able to say I was coming up to my 60th ☹️ ..............!
  11. Is that a BT facility only Paul?
  12. one of these rappers by any chance?
  13. I think there are many of us who couldn’t bear to be without a dog for long. You can never replace a four-legged friend but another puppy or rescue dog can help fill that awful gap that is left when they go. Still thinking of you Griff.
  14. Having spent the morning and part of the afternoon fighting through city shops, being walked into by people glued to a mobile phone, queuing to pay for items, carrying large and/or heavy gifts back to the car and being run down by numerous shopping trolleys, I shall be very glad to return to online shopping and rest my aching legs! At least I can peruse at my leisure, find unusual things, get stuff delivered and all while I have a cup of tea (or something stronger). The high street started dying long before I began to desert it and there’s no going back. Like it or hate it, online shopping has become a way of life.
  15. Only dog owners/lovers can understand the bond between a human and a four-legged friend. I know only too well what you are feeling right now and what tomorrow is going to be like. My thoughts are with you.
  16. Amazon have set it all up to deliberately catch the customer out, very cleverly done. I guess they then hope the customer forgets to unsubscribe or hasn’t realised what’s happened. They have done something similar with their checkout system in that, although you may have qualified for free delivery, you have to manually change the delivery details to ensure you don’t get charged.
  17. It will be far less stressful when Norwich City return to the Championship next season. It seems to have gone terribly wrong for them. Oh well....
  18. One thing that is happening now is that scam calls are coming from what appear to be local numbers. Fred’s right in saying that there have been numerous warnings about these calls but they are becoming increasingly sophisticated and more difficult to identify. With regard to Amazon scams, I don’t think they are any different to the internet provider scams or indeed any others. Big companies are bound to be targeted. It’s up to all of us to be aware that it could happen at any time and the consumer has got to become as sophisticated as the scammer. Otherwise it’s for all the technology!
  19. I had that automated message about amazon prime last week. I put the phone down straightaway as I do with all automated calls unless I either recognise the number or the caller - ie I get automated calls from my dentist re appointments. It’s all getting a bit silly now, so many jumping on the scam bandwagon. Sadly it’s teaching us not to trust anyone. ☹️
  20. Thanks marshman, from Nigel’s post I got the impression it was more recent. I have been in the butchers many times this year and always enjoy their meat. We especially like their pasties and recommend them unreservedly. I do hope Throwers doesn’t change too much, it is one of the few remaining village stores where you can buy almost anything.
  21. We have two gas canisters on board and have a ‘tag’ on the one that is in use. When you have to change that tag to the second canister, you know it’s time to get a replacement. Having an electric kettle on board to use when on shore power does preserve gas use. I have now got into the habit of filling a large vacuum flask with hot water in the mornings (again when on shore power) to use during the day - further gas preservation! Only being two of us, we get 2/3 mugs of tea or coffee each. You usually tend to boil more water than is needed anyway. We usually get around 50 days from one gas canister and I cook every day.
  22. Nigel - how long ago did the butcher’s change hands?
  23. Certainly got ‘that little bit extra’..............
