  1. You probably couldn’t hear the lapping for the heating noise! Sounds as it it’s a rather noisy boat all round.
  2. It’s really time store managers went back to basics and taught staff the true meaning of customer service. I have always found Lakeland staff good, in store or online. Our local Tesco staff are pretty good at assisting too. The thing that does wind me up is when I have spent a while trying to find an item and eventually have to ask where it is. Invariably the assistant says something like ‘oh, it’s probably down x aisle’ and proceeds to look exactly where I’ve just wasted an age looking. Grrr! Earlier this year I bought something for a friend from Roy’s. I thought it would be nice to give her the present in one of their paper carrier bags. The assistant however point blank refused to sell me one, she would happily sell me a plastic carrier but not a paper one. We are caring for forests’ she said...............🤔
  3. Fairly recently we were moored in front of WRC’s Polaris, our stern to their bow. Unusually, I was very conscious of the water lapping against the hull of Polaris, even when the river was still and no boats passing by. I actually like the sound of water lapping against a boat, it’s one of the sounds of the Broads to me. It did, however, make me wonder how it sounded from inside the boat as the lapping was constant. The shape of the bow was different to the norm which I guess caused the problem (for want of a better word). I didn’t have the opportunity to get into conversation with the hirers unfortunately otherwise I would have asked them. Has anyone hired Polaris or experienced anything similar?
  4. I was in a large department store waiting to be served and two assistants were deep in conversation, clearly ignoring me. I pleasantly asked if they were serving in that area and eventually one gave in and did the deed. As I walked away I said “I’m so sorry to have disturbed your discussion”. I think the assistant was just about to say “Oh, that’s ok” when she realised I was being sarcastic!
  5. I hope their ‘serviced’ moorings’ water points are better than the one on the service quay. Metered water, 10 minutes for £1, except at least half of your allocation leaks from the fittings and pours away into the river!☹️
  6. The type of roof Paw’s Bounty has is, imo, much more serviceable than the full sliding type. Year round it can be opened without a raging gale blowing through the boat. If one had been on the market when we bought our boat, we would have had it like a shot. I don’t think it will hang around for very long so, if anyone is interested, better get viewing.
  7. My favourite time to cross Breydon is around 6.30-7.00 in the morning in Spring. That usually means getting up at silly-o’clock to walk the dogs before getting away from Stracey Arms or Hardley Mill at 5-5.30am. So often then it can be quite still and tranquil and very beautiful.
  8. So, I could of said that theirs to many errors in written stuff these days but I no that would of upset folk so I wo’nt!
  9. Very sad to read your post Carole. The idea of a cabin or some sort of riverside unit has been very much on my mind too for the future as our ages and conditions (!) are also against us - we won’t give up without a fight though! I can’t imagine life without the Broads so something will have to be found to eventually replace the boat. I do hope you soon manage to sort something suitable out and can still enjoy what the area has to offer and of course still partake in the forum discussions.
  10. I think it’s so more players can get a mention, makes it sounds as if they are actually earning those massive salaries!
  11. My pet hate at the moment is hearing someone answer a question with ‘So’. Now, pet hates in speech could (should) start a whole new thread - although we’ve done that more than a few times over the years I do believe! So (), back to footie. I am waiting for Jayfire to put in his two pennyworth. Norwich have done his beloved Liverpool a big favour. Where are you Cap’n, let’s be havin’ you (as a certain person was known to shout.)
  12. Indeed there is but, if you listen to some of those well-known football pundits, it’s actually pronounced posiiviiy! There so often appears to be no such letter as ‘t’ in the football world now. (Lots of other places too no doubt.)
  13. Thought your plan was to cross Breydon yesterday or this morning?
  14. Where Eagles Dare. Full box set of John Jakes ‘North and South’. (That would keep us going for a month!)
  15. I wonder if anyone was brave enough to moor at the yacht station last night............!
  16. I think a few people would recommend a survey being done on anything you are really interested in. That could save you a lot of pennies and worry. I’m sure there will be a lot of other advice soon. Good luck with your search.
  17. Those were the days my friend 🎶🎵.........
  18. Are there any good things you could share too?
  19. Beauchamp Arms - has a small board outside saying ‘Open 12pm to L8. Free mooring’. There is no other info in sight, what it is serving, beer, tea, coffee, food. Anyone know what’s happening to the place? If anyone has any thoughts of stopping at the Postwick Viaduct (opposite Surlingham Ferry House) moorings, the area is in a real mess with dumped rubbish. Someone has obviously had a bbq right by the mooring and left the remains there. There is a sign saying ‘No rubbish’ which has black bin sacks, full carrier bags, cans and all sorts of packaging right by it! There is rubbish dumped in the dykes alongside the track. I guess some of the detritus may have been left by anglers but some of it may be from boats. It’s very sad that people treat facilities in this way, not a very nice place to stop these days.
  20. A little harsh I think, most hirers are courteous and considerate. There are good and bad on both sides.
