  1. I think the moorings are all one and the same and are still owned by Mrs Bondon. The boatyard is Russell’s though.
  2. How true! It’s a marmite sort of place - you either love it or hate it. There are bargains to be had amongst the tat, you just have to search them out.
  3. I think they had to construct that rather hurriedly after last year’s inaugural swim in case things went pear-shaped with every Tom, Dick and Harry jumping in the water!
  4. Nothing could be further from my thoughts! 🤥
  5. Funny thing, I was just reading a few days old newspaper and came across this bit of text: ’If you give anyone any authority, they will always, always, always abuse it ‘
  6. Good point. We don’t know do we? If they were charged, then surely those fees should find their way into the navigation account, that’s something that could be established at a later date from the financial accounts. Where there’s a will and all that.
  7. I suppose the people most put out by the swimmers would be hirers, especially of day boats, who may not have been warned of the event. As long as boat owners have plenty of warning of the race, we can keep away from the area for the short time it is on. I didn’t see any notices about the event and I was around the Waveney area for the three weeks preceding. It is only because I was aware of the race from last year that I made a point of looking to see when/if it was on. It is only one day but I don’t think it should be left to the race safety crew to be directing other river traffic and actually making them stop. That should be down to the BA rangers imho.
  8. Enjoying your tale grounded, was that your first visit to Latham’s? Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip and no more mishaps.
  9. You just can’t duck the issue can you?!!
  10. I would love to be a fly on the riverbank! I think a dedicated photographer might be an idea, plenty of ‘action’ shots for the 2020 calendar. 🤭😄
  11. I can remember driving away from Brundall after our first ever boating holiday in 1982, I felt absolutely devastated to be leaving such a fantastic place. It was 18 months before we could hire again and I almost made myself ill with the anticipation! There have been so many magic moments and, happily, there still are all these years later. (Trials and tribulations as well as all boat owners know but it’s well worth it!)
  12. WRC was £1.09 a couple of weeks back.
  13. This may of course be the first ever picture, taken before any of those somewhat necessary items had been added. I saw this boat at WRC about 2/3 weeks ago and certainly had to have a second and third look! For the life of me I can’t remember if it did have any rails added but somehow I can’t believe it would be left like that. Woe betide anyone who sleepwalks!!
  14. The water does seem very low at present so you could be lucky.
  15. Maybe not to some, but others might find them enlightening.
  16. I don’t think there is anything really new in that interview, not to regular Broads users anyway. I am sure we would all agree that being the CEO of such a large ‘empire’ does mean having a hand in all aspects of its care. (I do just hope the Acle project goes away..............!) As an aside, does anybody belong to the Broads Society and read Harnser? There are a couple of articles in the recent one that I think might be interesting to some members (concerning the BA) but I don’t know if I can reproduce them here. Guidance please? If I am allowed to, I will do so in the Members Only section.
  17. Before the Ferry Inn or after? 🤔
  18. I think some of the earlier ones have already been sold.
  19. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/119019 This link shows a picture of Surlingham Staithe. I hope! Seems it can be reached by foot quite easily from the Ferry Inn.
  20. But I don’t think he got all the way to the staithe. Looking at an OS map, I assume the staithe would be reached by road from The Common as it is referred to? Can anyone confirm that? It would be nice to know the exact location of the area concerned!
  21. Could someone clarify where exactly Surlingham Staithe is please?
  22. Now that is rude and inconsiderate! It never worries me if someone starts an engine and departs early, nor does it bother me if they haven’t told me they are going to do so. I expect some folk to get up early to catch the tide or just to make the most of the daylight hours. Good luck to them!
  23. Wild mooring above Beccles. Peace and tranquillity.
