  1. It’s not very different re dogs though is it? If it’s cleared up and disposed of in the same way that you do for your cats, or at least responsibly, where’s the problem? Many dogs are trained to go in their own garden and it wouldn’t surprise me if some have even been trained to use cat litter. It’s not the norm though. I would have liked to train my dogs to use it, we could then mud-weight overnight again! Left it too late now I think.
  2. Maybe someone who hires from H W could challenge this and see what transpires? We all know it’s incorrect!
  3. So are you suggesting dog mess should just be left where it is then?
  4. That’s the difference between wildlife and domestic pets. Goose poo is a real nuisance but only natural. Dogs on the other hand can lead to infections and disease. (Not sure geese go around sniffing each other’s bottoms!) I would far rather use a plastic poo bag for our dogs (and some are now biodegradable - bags not dogs) and dispose of it considerately than leave it anywhere public. That includes woods, fields, tracks and footpaths. No chance of children finding it then. It’s an interesting topic with the different views, particularly with the ‘then and now’ aspects.
  5. Might it refer to the Postwick Viaduct moorings opposite the Ferry Inn? That would probably be a fly-tippers paradise, nice wide quiet track to it. Not exactly Surlingham I know but I can’t recall a staithe as such on the Surlingham side. Can someone pinpoint it please?
  6. Look at it this way, things can only get better! Well, I do hope so.
  7. What I actually meant by using the word ‘unnecessarily’ was that it was the stupidity of these lads that necessitated the emergency call out rather than an accident or mishap. You are right when you say these incidents are few and far between and long may it remain so. Speeding in boats is nothing new but it does seem that this particular incident was due to too much alcohol causing the helm to endanger both his mates on board and other folk who thought they were safely moored up. Having said that, we only know what happened from social media and the EDP plus the report from Hemsby Lifeboat. No doubt, if the boat was identified and the culprit caught, we will know more in due course.
  8. There were two articles in the EDP yesterday relating to intoxicated boaters. One incident took place at Horning where a young man fell off the back of a boat. Not a great problem, the only person endangered was himself. The second incident however involved a private boat with a number of intoxicated lads on speeding between Berney Arms and Brundall late on Saturday night. From what the reports have said, the helmsman had every intention of causing upset to other boats moored up. I think this latter incident is the sort of thing many of us fear, being caught up in something we can do nothing about. It is also sad that the emergency services have to be called out unnecessarily when they might be needed for a real emergency. I do hope they catch these guys. I remember one year being moored up at Boundary Farm after the Acle Regatta. A private boat was returning up the Bure late at night at quite a speed and being woken up by the boat rocking violently is not a very nice experience. (That was probably nothing to do with alcohol intake but it was scary nevertheless.)
  9. That’s absolutely right. I always start by looking at the lowest scores and associated comments then move on up. Whether or not I end up taking any notice of the reviews very much depends on the product/establishment. Reviews can be very useful but you do need to keep an open mind.
  10. There are a lot of good deodorants on the market now.
  11. I can’t say about lightning but I do know of a gentleman who was using the heads when there was a terrific thunderclap. (No jokes here please!) Apparently the noise completely deafened him and he spent a lot of the next 6 months visiting hospitals to try and get him right again. I don’t know if he ever did fully recover. At the same time the electrics on his boat were badly damaged and they also took some time to get sorted.
  12. Heading to the Stour for a trial run grendel? Enjoy your explorations 🛶 .
  13. Grendel - I have a few numbers jotted down myself that I picked up from somewhere or other to do with injured birds etc. Amongst them is that for DEFRA 03459 335577. You might like to add that one.
  14. Talk about going off topic! I’m not sure Clive will appreciate any of his boats being compared to an Allegro. 🤭
  15. Now then Cap’n, keep the party clean. By the way, August 9th will be interesting won’t it?
  16. Yes, a number of times. Male mallards are not exactly gentle towards their females and it sounds as if she had more than one suitor after her. Nature takes its course in many different ways.
  17. He’s out and about I think, saw him a couple of times last week.
  18. Now that’s a good question and I haven’t actually got an answer! Makes a change from trying to guess which pub you were in I suppose - which boat is my dog on? 🙄
  19. She’s a sweetie, now what’s the real reason? 🤔
  20. More please Timbo - I’m just lovin’ this!
  21. I love you people who love dogs and pubs which allow dogs. I will not frequent any dog-unfriendly establishment even if my hounds aren’t with me. Cap’n - Your boat is blue and white, what’s with the yellow one your pooch is gracing?? Has he/she jumped ship??
  22. There are still coots around but I think August is not really the month for nesting so you’ll be ok. There are hullabaloos too, you’ll have no problem spotting them!
  23. 26 degrees in Wroxham yesterday, humid too.
  24. This looks like it could be a real ‘watch this space’!! 😃
