  1. Thanks JawsOrca only just getting the hang of this! [emoji106][emoji571] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. Recently we were on the river for the week and towed our dinghy as the trip ended with meeting friends at Ranworth Island. Didn't get a chance to use her last year and we don't often take her with us due to the faffing around involved when mooring stern on. I had forgotten what great fun it is messing around in the dinghy. We went across to the pub with two other dinghys on the first night. I had a bit of a row at Horning & more of a rowing at Ranworth. It's not that long ago that there were lots of people rowing tenders on the Broads - it's great fun ( had 2 ice creams on the second day when doing my ferry service bit), good exercise and a great chance to see the hidden bits of our lost waterways. We popped to Hickling on the last day of the hols and have eyed up an excellent slipway to launch her later this summer - fabulous! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. Sounds like you had a nice break - agree re the walk to the Third Crossing it is a bit strange. Do love Lowestoft - lots of hidden gems - the old town, the scores, the museum, the beaches and Ness point all fab & an even better way of getting there from Oulton Broad now via the ferry. Looking forwards to reading the rest of your trip! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. Fabulous and what a privilege - she is beautiful! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. Evening Lastdraft, As they are navy chaps I would show them Breydon, maybe followed by a pootle down the Waveney to Beccles. It would also be good to fit in a cruise through both Rockland and Surlingham.. All depends how much time you want cruising. Enjoy and fingers crossed for the weather. 6. Went there last Tuesday after 6 hours on a boat freezing it was heaven- staff really lovely as well & nice food. [emoji106] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. Pleased to report after a week on the river we wore shorts every day. What's more the evenings were warm as well and you can't beat a warm evening on the Broads! The mosquitoes are out in full force so don't forget the repentant! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. It's a stuffed Coypu and she's called Joyce after her previous owner! She's an exhibit at the Museum of the Broads where I have links. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. If you have facility to plug in get a 2kw radiator & check out all the electric point moorings - brilliant and will keep you nice and toasty. Watch that quay heading it can be very slippy later in the year. Does sound lovely and enjoy! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. Saw the boat this afternoon and it's well over 100 meters away from the channel - just unbelievable . The owners of Alphacraft are lovely and I just hope things improve for them over the summer months and incidents like this don't happen to them again soon. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. Belaugh is also lovely and quiet if you can get in at the 24 hour moorings. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. There are some great moorings at the Museum of the Broads if you want to visit whist they are open plus it's also close to the town which does have quite a few hidden gems! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. Attire today - start when left mooring - shorts and fleece. 6 hour later when moored up - hat, trousers, socks, 2 fleeces and a waterproof- says it all - however determined tomorrow will be shorts and tee shirt all the way! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. Hello Robert, shower wise Barnes Brinkcraft Wroxham, , Herbert Woods at Potter Heigham and Ferry Marina Horning in addition to Richardsons. Boat showers are usually very good. Would also recommend bus or taxi to Yarmouth. The Yacht station is a fair walk away from the seaside & it will take you 1.5 to 2 hours from Acle Bridge by boat each way. Have a lovely week whatever you decide to do. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. Best thing about the Broads is there is something for everyone & whether you go north or south you have to pass through the wonder that is Breydon to get there - surely one of the best bits! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. Great post JennyMorgan. Wasn't around then but sounds brilliant! There are some lovely pieces at the Museum of the Broads about Harry Last including a fantastic model yacht! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. Totally agree with Gracie - mudweight in the middle of a broad, summer eve, the wildlife & sitting in the open air just watching the world go by! What's more doing exactly that tonight! Will just add an early morning or late evening trip across Breydon into the mix! Love it! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. Good at waving JawsOrca - get told off for it! Bound to see you over the season! Enjoy the weekend Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. Am loving your posts - really captures what's just so lovely about being out on the river either by engine or sail! Will keep an eye out for you & more adventures please! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  20. Maybe avoid Beziers then! From memory the route west from there didn't have too many locks. The canal to Narborne is lovely but there were several in a row there. Enjoy it is beautiful! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  21. Went on the Canal du Midi a couple of years ago. Lovely scenery, parts quite busy as per the Broads and lovely weather - that was in May. There were 6 of us which worked well in the locks taking turns and we had a couple of bikes which also worked well. If you go make sure you fill up with water at every opportunity as working water points were extremely hard to find. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  22. Faves from the boat cookbook as a child were - luncheon meat fritters - always lightly golden, the tinned pies (which always avoided) copious amounts of tinned soup & best of all chips! The oil could never get hot enough to make them golden so they were beautifully mushy! The Osocool wasn't much good or big enough for much fresh stuff! Suffice to say my boat cookbook today is somewhat different! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  23. Welcome - lovely looking boat and glad you asked the burgee question as just ordered one to! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  24. Broadland Memories is just a brilliant archive and Carol does a fabulous job! Her Friday films on Twitter are a must. Long may she continue with this fab work[emoji106] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  25. Around 17 wild moorings on the southern rivers ie not next to a pub etc. including some real gems. One of most recent faves is Hardley Cross! Some of them are definitely more tidal but you can still sit for an Eve and watch the wildlife including the odd seal! Enjoy Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
