  1. I never got a full 'peskying' but was threatened with woodworm on many occasions
  2. Fortunately us Woodies have no need for such things Or as Pesky would have said....
  3. This is Tink or Dawnglo Tinkerbell to give her her official name. Like others, it was the name her breeder gave her, she came to us aged 4. We shortened it to Tink after getting strange looks shouting "Tinkerbell" in every park in the area. Fortunately she loves being afloat but is bone idle in reality. She used to be a supermodel and even made it to Crufts in her youth. These days she just eats, sleeps and manufactures... well you get the idea. She also loves toffee eclairs!
  4. Perhaps we should set up a rota for My Mynah? I am available and happy to be offended on 21 Jan and again around 18th March if it helps?
  5. Happy New Year to all who survived 2016. There cant be many of us left now. I shall raise a glass to Iain in a few mins miss you old Pesky! Griff, give BA a from me! Here's to 2017, a fabulous year to be afloat amongst friends old and new.
  6. Such a sad sad day. Iain was not only a friend to many of us individually but a true friend of the forum itself. As this year passes and the bells chime in the next I shall raise a glass to Old Pesky. I suspect some of you will join me...
  7. I think it's more a case of the huge increase of awareness of 'celeb's' from the popularity of TV, music charts and other media from the 60's onwards that means those people are now reaching 'that' age.
  8. Moderators un Moderated here we come
  9. More than happy to pass on the batton..

We had planned to have such information included but time was seriously against us this year and to have sent out with some of that information missing on some pages would have not been ideal. Of course next year we will be super efficient and start a couple of days earlier so that we have far more time! Make sure you have those cameras ready in the new year though.
  11. Already suffering a hideous curse.... got married Joking aside, am looking forward to a more in depth look at your site over the holiday period.
  12. So, to dig up to 1000 turves a day and with St Benet's showing 200,000 in a particular year, would this have been 'full time' work for a small team or a more labour intensive job for many over a short seasonal period? There must have been drying time in there somewhere or maybe the following years stock was dug ahead of time. Our toasting fork will be back in use over the festive season. Owners of wooden broads cruisers tend to have an open fire or wood burner (when they can), it not only provides heat but also hides the mistakes along the way!
  13. Can I ask something? How big are 'turves'? Do they bear relationship to modern day turves or turfs as they are called at the garden centre? My imagination suggests that fuel would be cut in blocks but a turf is cut and rolled, then carried so to speak. Either way it is hard to look across somewhere like Black Horse or Ormesby Broad and imagine it being gradually formed year on year, strip by strip to such a scale. A superb topic and excellent debate chaps.
  14. Or have Google... Every day's a learning day

They all left together except for one with an address problem - now sorted - however I can reveal that, knowing Peter's enthusiasm for his copy, we paid extra for his Norfolk pigeon to have an additional feed before take off. Unfortunately best laid plans and all that, the bird ate so much it couldn't get airborne and was last seen heading east on the A47 , calendar under its wing, trying to hitch a ride. We decided it would have run the surplus off by Acle so left it to it!
  16. I think, if it was me, I would be sat there for ward round and saying the above to someone far enough up the food chain to realise litigation might follow? My very best to Uncle Albert though. His escapades have made him quite a character.
  17. The calenders are on their way! A box arrived Friday evening with some very excited contents. We quickly opened the carton and these popped out into the light.. After they had enjoyed some air they formed a queue ready to the final leg of their journey... ... and carefully got into their protective transports ready for off. And today postman Pat popped them all into his shiny red van and they were away to be admired by those of you lucky enough to have offered one a home. Thank you to everyone who supported, submitted, voted, purchased, organised, printed and for everything else that made this happen, against the odds and, by the skin of our teeth, in time! Well done all. Enjoy...
  18. I suspect some of these boat dimensions were measured with the same tape measure a well known trimmers used when they measured my canopy
  19. Actually there is no longer an insurance validity check at the point of purchase of VED. The only requirement is MOT, when applicable, and money! Having a taxed but un- insured vehicle will, however, bring an automated prosecution.
  20. Am interested in your 'tip' ref the recycling and use of cardboard. We have an underwater planked area in need of attention and would appreciate your input. Obviously, once fitted we would need to protect the repair and wondered whether you would recommend antifouling straight onto the bare surface or using an etch primer to prevent flaking? With the escalating costs of timber (you would think it grows on trees the amount they get through) it is quite possible you have come up with a solution that makes boating, once again, affordable to the masses
  21. Leccy motor? Think of the tolls man!
  22. I am lead to believe he is a strong wee laddie and if we pop a pint of something on the quayhead for him to aim for he will make it irrespective of time or tide! I am a bit concerned about the lack of oars in your offer though. We ought to give him at least a sporting chance... he is the boss after all.
  23. I am sure there would be enough of us to offer a ferry service from Burgh to Berney? "All aboard"
  24. If Berney Arms becomes a realistic venue I will happily put together a weekend there. And make sure you are all invited
