Now that's what you call a writing cabinet. I would imagine it would be hard to put a price on such a wonderful piece of craftsmanship. But I should imagine something in the region of £50,000. Nice to know that it is in a museum, for everyone to admire. The mechanism inside it to operate all the hidden draws, cupboards is truly amazing, especially the last piece of the workings, of the opening writing table.

Now that we no longer have to display a tax disc on our windscreen, I sent off for one to replace it, It is a round self stick disc that says. Tax Disc R.I.P. It feels strange without a tax disc, so this is a good replacement,

Whatever is decided, let's hope it does well and remains open at least. There is nothing worse than seeing boarded up pubs up and down the country.

It would be nice to see the pub, live up to its name, The Lord Nelson. Just imagine the main lounge area, themed to resemble the Admirals great cabin aboard the Victory. Horatio was Norfolk's greatest son and this pub that bears his name, needs to reflect this in its atmosphere. That is my opinion, but it would need a lot of thought and money spending on it, to achieve something like this. Keep the meals simple, like broth and ships biscuits, no seriously, food needs to be good but not too fancy, just enough choice to satisfy most peoples preferences and pockets.

It's ok if you just want to go to the same old place, year after year, but we like to vary our holiday destinations. For three thousand pounds per year, we could have a ten day cruise, to the Carrabean, plus a week in a four star hotel, anywhere in the UK. Or four weekly holidays in the uk and a few mid week breaks as well. Owning your own static caravan or lodge, these days, is becoming quite expensive and there are too many rules and regulations of what you can or can't do. Some sites, won't even let you sublet unless you do it through them and they take a big slice of your profits. I think we will have our holidays, by hiring a boat, caravan or stay in a nice hotel.

If everyone used courtesy when driving on the roads, it would be an ideal world, but there are too many selfish drivers on the roads these days. I will always let someone out of a side road in front of me, if the traffic is heavy, or allow someone wanting to turn right. This avoids holding up any traffic behind them. Being an ex truck driver, you learn a lot about road behaviour. If you see a truck waiting to get out of a side road into the traffic flow, when it is busy, flash him with your headlights and allow him out, especially if he is wanting to turn right. He will thank you for it. If you are allowing a long vehicle to turn left from a side road in front of you, always allow enough space, so that he can swing over to your side of the road, they need lots of space to clear the trailer rear end. This is where a lot of car drivers don't understand that a long vehicle need lots more space when turning, than a car does. Just be courteous to other drivers, don't be one of those drivers who doesn't give a s...t about any one else on the road. There are lot's of them about, so don't be one of them.

It wasn't a tactical error, it was dam right deliberate. There was no reason to bring Lewis in, there were only 8 laps to go. I think that Mercedes wanted Rosberg to win, so used the safety car issue, as an opportunity to enable Rosberg to take the lead. But in doing so, they allowed Vetel to take second place. Lewis was fuming, but fair play to him, kept his cool when being interviewed. Hope Lewis goes on to win the championship again and thinks seriously about his contract with Mercedes. As for Norwich and the cricket, well done, but football and cricket are not my scene. I prefer the more genteel sports like, Shove ha penny, bar skittles and conkers! : : :

Last motorbike I had was a Triumph Tiger Cub, back in 1965. After that, I moved onto four wheels and was the proud owner of a 1950 sit up and beg Ford Popular. I started on two wheels with a Phillishave on wheels, a 50cc Norman Nippy in 1960! Then a Francis Barnett 197cc and a 197cc Dot Scrambler, before my Tiger Cub. Never did hit the big time with bikes, but would love a Harley Trike, just for the fun of one.

We passed lots of miserable gits, whilst on holiday. You wave and get a stern looking response, as if to say, I DON'T THINK WE KNOW YOU! Probably local boat owners, who only wave at people they know and definitely don't wave at holiday boat hirers. Most of the hirers on holiday seem to wave, as like has been said, everyone is in the holiday mood. One mode of transport that always seems to attract waver's, are Miniature or Stem Railways. Both passengers and bystanders, will frantically wave at each other, as though it is the normal thing to do. You never ever see people on buses waving as they pass you, or anyone wave at a passing bus. When I was a child, I remember the old AA & RAC Motorcycle Patrols, who always saluted at passing motorists, if they were displaying a badge on their radiator grill. Those days are long gone, but can you imagine waving at an AA or RAC Van these days. Waving is usually reserved for people saying goodbye to each other, like at railway stations, or leaving the dockside as you go on a cruise. Most of us do it, because it is in your instinct to do so as a matter of courtesy. We are a unique species really, only humans wave at each other as far as we know. So all you miserable gits out there, next time you are on the Broads, for gawds sake wave at other boaters as you pass. They will always wave back at you, unless they too, are miserable gits! Just like this If they are tacking

Sorry to hear about Toby and that he soon recovers. Depending on your pet insurance, it may not cover the cost of an MRI scan, unless you take out extra cover for things like that. We pay £10 per month for our cat insurance.

Once again Iain, thank you for sharing your blog with us all and hope you are now feeling a little bit better and on the mend. That boat you hired, looks nice, despite that bloody FE being where it was and the slippery floor. Let's hope that Clive has the FE resited, where it is less of a hazard. All in all, you managed to make the most of your holiday and thank's to Scoot, you were able to see quite a lot of Norwich, which is a beautiful city. Wendy and I enjoyed our few days there, before heading for Ely and home. We are looking forward to our next visit to the Broads at the end of September for a week, aboard Topliner 3, but once again, will be staying in the North. Meanwhile, we have a week in Devon to look forward to in three weeks time. Take it easy Iain and enjoy the rest of the summer.

Its road access is obviously its downfall. If it has to rely mainly on the boat trade, then I doubt whether it will survive, especially out of season. It's a shame really, but if it isn't attracting customers, then it probably won't reopen.

Pubs up and down the country are closing, it's not just on the Broads. Three things that come to mind for some of the closures are the drink driving laws, the smoking ban and cheap alcoholic drinks from supermarkets etc. I know some of you will say that what I have stated isn't the reason, but let me just give you one example of a very popular pub in my home town, that closed down about three months after the smoking ban. The pub had no beer garden or outside seating area and was one of those cosy little pubs with just a small bar and lounge. It was used mainly by pensioners, who liked to go for a chat and a game of dominoes. It was one of those places, which always had the smell of pipe tobacco, typical of most small town pubs used by regulars. The pub was built during the 18th century and is grade 2 listed but has been lying empty ever since it's closure, as are half the shops.

Enjoyed reading about your holiday Iain, but not about your argument with that fire extinguisher. Lying on your back is not what you want while on holiday either. But at least the ladies were taking good care of you. Hope that you all enjoyed your holiday, despite the mishaps. Now it's time to get back to reality and modding on here again.

I am not a great lover of adverts, but if watching the commercial channels on TV, you haven't much choice but to put up with them. Some are meaningless and others are dam right stupid. My favourite has to be Freeview's Cat & Budgie Advert. It is so very well done and always makes me smile. What is your favourite?

Much as I would love to buy you a pair of shoes Grace, but I have never seen any designer high heels in our local charity shops. Besides, I don't think Wendy would be too happy about me buying another woman a pair of shoes. Only joking about the charity shops, that's one thing I would never ever dream of buying second hand. Thank you Grace, it was so nice of you to comment in the way you did. My initial post was to praise Robin for his wonderful blogs, which everyone seems to enjoy and for the way he handled that horrible situation he encountered. I just felt that he deserves more than just a pat on the back, so to speak and that we all agree on that. We all have different opinions and that is what forums are about like you have said, but I always like to give credit where it is due and I take on board your order, not to keep my mouth shut in future!
