  1. i'm not trying to push boundaries, including allowing spectators in the club, there just wouldn't be room, even with 1+ allowances. it's sardine time in there during a Normal regatta day and at a normal weekend a bit tight. It would purely competitors only and I can't think of a way of running the normal 7 seven nights of Social events during regatta week..
  2. The problem being with the 2 metre rule how do you man a two person sailing boat. How do you chose in a 400 member club who can race who can not? There are on a Normal Sunday 4 race series, if at the club or on the broad and two if a down river to a pub and back. each series includes at least 6 starts at 5 minute intervals each start may have 10 boats or more. If you are all going for the same trophy who do you chose to allow in? Then the other problems, The start finish line, we normally have a time keeper, officer of the day and assistant officer of the day all on a small platform and office. Then there are the rescue boats, helm and crew rarely from the same family, having to rescue a third party. , 2M it's not possible unless the crew is sat right on the bow. 1 + it is, with the crew doning masks and gloves for rescuing people out of the water, as per ambulance crew..
  3. I think they may keep us away fom flying pigs
  4. and the point was Horning Sailing club can't observe the 2M rule, because the island is just too small.. So with it being relaxed to 1+ there is a chance sailing / racing may recommence.. (and it may recommence elsewhere, but with all the clubs that depends on the view of the committees). The limitations being, the clubhouse, T bars, and toilets.
  5. Not big enough, we've got sailin boats with bowsprits longer than that...
  6. Yes it has, your own copy of the prime ministers statements prove it, it's been replaced by the 1 metre + rule...
  7. I suspect the removal of the 2 meter rule will enable sailing / Racing to take place... watch out for Horning regatta week . 1st to the 7th of August...
  8. The water leaving the sewage treatment plants is vastly cleaner than the water already in the rivers. Remember every bird, fish and mammal is leaving their deposits in the water. People at all the sailing clubs including the children have been going into the water on the broads, right through when raw sewage was pumped straight into the rivers to the present day. I've found no reports of problems post WW2
  9. Remembering of course the Yare was, and maybe still legally is, the access to the Port of Norwich, so you could in theory, still get a dirty great freighter heading up to Norwich. Heading up river below the limit they would produce a wake much larger than a ski boat.
  10. I think there is 3 months of held up demand for boats and houses, I think once that is over things might be different..
  11. No such thing as an English Government, there are Scottish, Northern Irish , and Welsh Parliaments , with limited powers which include education. But the Government In Westminster, is elected by the people of the whole of " the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" the cabinet may contain members of any of the Four countries. It is the British Government MPs from S, NI and W can and do vote one bills for England , even when they have their own powers in their home countries..
  12. They are now wanting the Guardian Newspaper shut down, because the founder was a cotton Merchant..
  13. Rescue boat for Horning regatta week, that'd keep the tourists in line along the bank,...
  14. There are many occasions out sailing I wish I could create a breeze..

    First Photo

Definately, I'd recognise that anytime, the only thing missing is the sailing club going in ever decreasing circles.. The Picture is taken from the mouth of the entrance dyke.
  16. While in the RAF one Airman turned up in a Rolls Royce on the base I was at , He was given 7 days to remove it from camp. He was from a wealthy family with a tradition of serving the the Armed forces. However, the previous generations wealth and the school you went to got you in to being an officer whatever your intelligence. Not today..(though it helps) he was as thick as a plank..
  17. Here's an odd thing to throw into the mix.. You are all decendants of slaves and you are all decendants of Slavers.. In the doomsday book 10% of the population were Serfs or Slaves effectively the same thing with minor differences. With the mixing of populations, by now everyone in the UK (and probably europe) is a decendant of a slave.. With the likely exception of those who have come direct from Africa, since they are those who remained in Africa till recently they are more likely to be decendants of Slavers.. as the slaves got exported...
  18. Yes we have to take 50% leave by the end of August..
  19. Fire stick use potassium powder salt, it vapourises and oxidises consuming oxygen in the process.
  20. Normally I sail all year round, and would have sailing to report. However the my sailing friend for the winter, who owns the boat. Met the front of a tractor having come off his motorbike last year, Neither his or the tractor drivers fault. However he spent nearly 3 months in hospital and since before lock down has been waiting for another operation. So no sailing last winter. And for the last few years, I've not sailed in the summer as I'm rebuilding my sailing boat. The virus means I have spent more time working on the boat. A photo of better times. We're in 103 about to take the long way round the buoy...

    Road Works 2020

I can confirm the road waterworks on the A149 have been removed.. An odd one not really on the road but may affect you. Half the area of the car park behind the Tescos petrol filling station Stalham has been fenced off. That's about 1/4 of the total carparks. There is a double height works portacabins with stairs on site. I have no idea what they're up to, but the works offices seem to indicate it will be major..
  22. The percentage of Slaves and serfs in the Doomsday book is around 10percent, with the many years since then we are all decendants of slave and of Slave owners..
  23. At this moment I have the HW web cam on and there is a man pressure washing the day boats... I wonder why..
  24. ? ....You was done.. 1 gallon, 2 shillings and six pence, 2 gallons, 5 shillings 3 gallons, 7 and 6, 4 gallons, ten shillings 20 shillings, £1 is 8 gallons..
