  1. Screwfix own the Plumbfix brand often in adjoining buildings are you getting it confused with plumb centre? Ive always regarded Screw and Plumb fix as the same company as they share the same staff..
  2. Err Nope.. B&Q and Screwfix are owned by Kingfisher group. Homebase was owned by Sainsburys and after a couple of owners is now is owned by HILCO a company specialising in rescuing companies.. Wickes is owned by Travis Perkins who had planned to flog off Wickes this year. Wolesley Uk own Plumb Centre, Jewsons is owned By Saint Gobain, who now also own Build centre.
  3. It always was reasonable when I was a member and when I was on the committee we tried to keep it that way. The Move to Haversham lake from the lake next to the motorway was a big step as was buying the place... At £171 Family membership is more expensive than Horning Sailing club @ £133, but the moorings for a dinghy are cheaper at Dovecote. Our Horning island is way smaller than the berths at Haversham. This is the latest picture of Haversham, when we moved ther only the berths to the south of the club house were needed, though we just started making the extension to the north. So it looks like membership has over doubled since 2001 and the small space at Horning
  4. A little reminder your TV Licence pays for 7 TV channels, 11 national radio channels, and 40 local radio stations. Thats a lot for the amount we pay and certainly more value than paying sky..
  5. Shrimper 17 /19/21? with or without cabin? Over the last 40 years they have gradually cleaned up the waters of the broads and weed is now growing everywhere, I know of no area that is marked for just weed on the broads and it's spreading even down the river sides. The owners of the broad , have nothing to do with the running of that Broad as Wroxham sailing club rent the entire broad and the land surrounding the clubhouse. ( I seem to remember Trafford estates as the owner But I might be wrong) Your draught is a bit deeper than most broads classes, at 4 ft (or 4ft 5in for the 21), most of the boats you'll have seen moored at the club there are around 3 ft +- a couple of inches or so. Yes the club members and those of us from other clubs who have sailed there do know the shallows. It doesn't stop us pushing it a bit too far trying to get an advantage during a race and going aground!! If you go to Hoveton Little Broad (AKA Black Horse Broad), your keel when fully down will drag the mud thoughout the broad. At the start of a sailing season even the local sailing boats leave a brown trail in the water.. Barton broad inside the broad edge markers is not too bad, Hickling broad is very shallow outside the channel markers, but you will see the locals from Hickling sailing club going all over the broad as they know where the odd deeper water bit is. Saying that when running it's quite safe to up boards and rudder and cross the shallows with 18inches of draft , I've done that in the past.
  6. You can buy a dinghy, join Dovecot sailing Club At Haversham, https://www.havershamsc.org/club-history.html and sail for less than that.. on the Northern Edge of MK (says he a former member when we moved to that lake..)
  7. A good face mask should have a bendable wire in the top to seal it round your nose from steaming your glasses. the type we are issued at work do have this. For much of the weekend I was wearing a half face rubber mask with changeable filters, as I'm sanding the wooden decks as the moment. Still a long way to go on that.. It's no where near as bad as wearing military S6 Respirator with NBC gear over a cabbage suit during an exersize..

    My Day

Morning all, Saturday, Stern 800 grit sanded then varnished, Bow deck area of boat sanded 60 grit, Keel ballast holes re drilled, stub keel bolted on, left to "rest " while fully tight. Sunday, varnish not sticky, but not set enough for a light sand and recoat of varnish, Starboard side sanded with 60 grit except for those areas that were repaired they are still a bit sticky to sand.. I had intended to release the keel, then coat the join with thickend epoxy then re- tighten up, but moving the barbeque to a new site became more important.. As for Horning Sailing club Annual Regatta Week due 1st to the 7th of August It's cancelled. The club could not find a way round the virus regulation no more that 30 people on the premises at once.. At a normal regatta there's about 100 boats with the mix of single handers and the 2 and more handers that's around 200 people, plus 3 line crew minimum, 2+ score keepers, 8 rescue boat crew morning and 6 afternoon, 12 galley crew in shifts through the day Parents of minors. That's without the additional non sailing family and friends, traditional visits by old members and just curious visitors. Totalling around 300 people on the island at max, the majority are out on the water most of the time, but it does get a bit sardine like at times.. The island is only about 60ft by 180 foot. So the club will restart sailing this weekend with up to 30 boats up on the broad, that's people arriving and leaving at different times, plus locals with boats sailing from their own houses, all entries all pre booked by email..

    Road Works 2020

Over the last few days they've had a trailer mounted machine doing what appeared to be bore holes into the road surface of Watford bridge. The road surface and edges are now covered with even more paint marks. I suspect a major resurface / rebuild of the road will take place.

    My Day

My day yesterday, Good, HMG's announcement about outdoor Sports, this with some comments from the Commodore of HSC online , indicates probably not this week end, but the following, some limited sailing / racing will take place. That will give them 2 weekends to see if a limited Regatta week can take place (due 1st to the 7th of August this year..) It will be interesting to see if Wroxham week is resurrected as they cancelled a couple of months back. (due the week before HSC). Bad, The council closed our road... The alternatives are a muddy / sandy singe track with many potholes, or what is classed as a green lane that is tarmac'd but is often covered in sand, it's very narrow with house walls right on the end of the single track. they also put two road signs on our driveway without asking (road closed and diversion). Why have they closed aour road?, So they can park their vans on it, the hole they are digging is off a road junction on a different road.. It will be absolute chaos tonight /tomorrow if the works are still on as the second homers / holiday makers head for their houses or caravans.. Good, I've just taken Delivery of half a dozen sash clamps, proper old British made ones. 8ft to 4ft in size with extension bars for the smaller ones.. A friend is unfortunately having to clear his parents house... Bad... I have 5 hours till I finish work.. Good.. Tomorrows Saturday...
  12. They did a marvelous Chess and onion roll.. 6 inch diameter roll, 1/2 thick slice of cheese, 1/2 inch slice of onion. Good strong flavoured cheese and a onion that didn't bite back..

What do you need to know about Irons for.. the BA's Broads safety test doesn't like soldered joints..
  16. Depends on which Black horse pub, that one seems to have existed from 1961... were you old enough? It was the "local" for RAF Neatishead personnel, I went in there many times.. There's two houses on the site now..
  17. They be outside toilets in them days at the bottom of the school yard

  20. Depends how many want to come on board and which boat. The half decker fleet are easily big enough for crew to sit up front ish and helm at the back and remain 2M apart, let alone 1M+ Couldn't see any dinghies on their web site..
  21. Horning sailing club, has moorings, across the other side of the river, club rowing dinghies supplied. Free car parking, use of the clubs toilets and showers. There is a hose for topping up boat water tanks. Club membership per year £133 for a family ( which includes children and grandchildren of school age) £89 for a single, mooring fees are less than half most commercial moorings. You have the option, not a requirement, of joining in the club social events, and sailing / racing events. It is expected of you to do one days duty each year between the end of March and the end of October, on a Sunday, be that rescue boat or Tea bar . Here, is the club website, https://www.horning-sailing.club/ there is a video of the club on the front page, you can see the moorings on the left, in the off river section if up to about 22ft on the river if larger. The more expensive moorings on the club island itself are reserved for those who race, those on the Swan green side of the club dyke, can be anyone but there's a long waiting list from those who already have a mooring. .. Details of who to contact, are on the club home page. Note, we are a small friendly club with only one paid person.. The cleaner after each racing day or event. So not everyone that is a club office holder available all the time every day... Some are still working like most members.
  22. It's probably not legal now to ban single sex parties, especially if some or all of the group were lbgtq+ or any other letters of the alphabet..

    Road Works 2020

Well, the internals are being rebuilt with new refrigeration units, I believe the counters will be rebuilt. externally they have cleared the " island " between the Tesco car park road and the station forecourt of vegetation, what's happening with that I don't know, the big sign outside is covered in scaffolding. It's likely all the signage on the front of the building will be replaced. The pumps themselves are likely to stay they are only a couple of years old, though some trim and signage will probably be replaced. Yes of course 13th to the 16th of July...
